Cagliari 08/09 Macron football kits launched

Cagliari launched the new Home, away and Goalkeeper kits for the 2008/09 season made by Macron. The official red and blue colours of Cagliari mirror those featured on the stemma of Cagliari.

The red parts of the stemma are a reference to the coat of arms of the House of Savoy, a family which was previously the monarchy of Italy and more relevantly to Cagliari in particular, the Kingdom of Sardinia.

The blue part of the stemma features the sky and the sea, also a castle; this is because the old historic center of Cagliari is walled and called the Castello. Due to the use of these colours on their shirt in halves, the club is commonly nicknamed rossoblu.

Corinthians unveiled the new Home, away and goalkeeper kits for the 2008-09 season made by Nike. Even though the club has been recognized by the colours black and white for most of its history, the first Corinthians' kit originally consisted of cream shirts and black shorts (Alvi-Negro).

But when the shirts were washed, the cream colour gradually became white. After that, early in the club's history, the official colours were changed, so the club wouldn't waste much money on buying new kits.

Arsenal revealed its away kit for the 2008/09 season, which is based on the iconic kit worn when the Club won the League Championship in dramatic style in 1989.  The kit sees a return to a yellow and blue shirt, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Club winning the League in the last match of the season at Anfield on 26th May 1989. To mark this special occasion, current Arsenal stars lined up for the promotional photoshoot alongside legends from that great night including goalscorers Alan Smith and Michael Thomas.

Produced by manufacturers Nike, the kit features a yellow and blue shirt with a red stripe down the sleeves and body. ‘Gunners’ is stamped on the neck and, as with the new Arsenal home shirt, this kit brings a welcome return to the Club's motto 'Victory through Harmony' from the Latin inscription 'Victoria Concordia Crescit', which is included in the inside neck of the shirt. The kit is made from Nike Dri-Fit, an innovative technology that enhances player performance by drawing sweat away from the body through to the fabric’s surface to evaporate, while its three-dimensional construction allows for more air space around the skin to reduce clinging.

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas said of the ’89 League win: “I was only two years old on that famous night, but I know the players are legends, everyone loves them and we all hope that we can do the same with this team. It is always a great feeling when you score or win a match, so imagine what it feels like if you win the League in those circumstances. Every player would like to live a moment like Michael did.”

These are the new Fiorentina 2008-2009 Home, away and 3rd football shirts made by Lotto.

Originally when Fiorentina was founded in 1926, the red and white halves shirts were derived from the colour of the city emblem. The more well known and highly distinctive purple kit was adopted in 1928 and has been theirs ever since; giving them the nickname La viola ("The Purple (team)").

Traditionally it is said that the purple kit became Fiorentina's by mistake, after an accident washing the old red and white coloured kits in the river.
