Hull City must find a 3rd kit

Hull City must find a 3rd kit for their FA Cup replay at newcastle United as both their present kits clash with the Newcastle's black and white home kit.

In September 2008, Hull City followed Premier League procedures fully in the build up to the game against Newcastle in the EPL by registering their second choice strip in advance of this fixture.

It was only when the team arrived at the ground that the match referee, as is his right, decided that in his opinion the flint coloured away kit was in fact too similar to Newcastle United's home kit.

With Newcastle United's co-operation, they were able to wear their second choice white shorts and white socks to enable the match officials to distinguish between the two teams.

"We have got a massive problem - we don't have a third-choice strip," admitted manager Phil Brown.

"We can't wear our home kit and we can't wear our away. Hopefully Umbro can come up with something."

Why sdo they not just wear last season\'s home shirt with last season\'s away shorts? Problem solved?

I agree they should just wear last season\'s plain amber shirt, surely they\'d have enough spare stock from last year to use up for a single match?

I\'m guessing this third strip will probably be an Umbro teamwear template cobbled up in time for the replay, something like this...

Sky blue - well, they\'ve had a number of sky blue change strips in the past so it\'s an estimated guess.

This is a wet dream for umbro and the club.....a forced release of a third strip. The fans cant complain because the kit is actually needed. They could the plain amber from last year but they wont.

Why not have Newcastle wear their away kit at home? I\'m pretty sure England have worn their away kit at Wembley when it was launched on sale to get people to buy it...but I could be wrong.

In a Hull-Bradford match five years ago, Hull were forced to wear their away shirt of light blue as both Bradfords Kits (Home: Claret & Amber, Away: Black) clashed with Hulls Black and Amber kit.

Newcastle in a way could wear their away kit at home, but I\'m sure the FA Cup rules stipulate that the away team must change in the event of a colour clash. Then, if there is still a clash, the referee will then decide on who wears what.

In other countries I know the rule is that the home team also changes kit if the away team\'s change kit also clashes. In the FA Cup in the past, though only confined to matches at neutral venues (i.e. the semi-final and final), both teams changed kits in the event of a clash.

Newcastle wearing anything other than black and white at home is nothing new - in 1993 they were actually forced to wear blue against Sheffield Wednesday, who had turned up in a white kit with black pinstripes (as their home kit and black away kit also clashed). Did them good actually because they won 4-2 or something like that!

As for England wearing red at home, they mainly do it for promotion of a new away kit, even so much as forcing teams which normally wear red to wear an away kit for that match (like the Swiss had to last year).

And the 1966 factor.

Like Umbro never foresaw this happening whilst designing the \'flint\' coloured away shirt?

Umbro should be shot for this \'oversight\' The fans should demand free of charge replicas and Umbro should be binned in favour of a company who cares about the club and its supportiers.

How about both wearing away? Hull\'s flint and Newcastle\'s blue, if that still clashes then newcastle\'s silver 3rd.

and Croatia wore their away at home to England, cuz England\'s white home and red away clash with the chequered white/red of Croatia!

It isn\'t that difficult, they wear last seasons home shirt, away shorts and home socks. They have the same sponcer as last season, all they need to do is put a beer mat or two on the sleeves and problem solved.
Umbro almost certainlly put out a pale blue number instead, however....

Phil Brown stated on KCFM (Hull local radio) that they will be wearing last years away kit (all white) re-badged with this years logos etc.

Still, it would be an excellent money spinner for the club to introduce a third strip in Hull\'s inaugural Premiership campain, I for one would rush out and buy it!

Why not have an upto date tiger skin shirt. The actual tiger print on last years shirt ( under the arms) was quite well done, and a full shirt in this would be different.
Your getting mauled by the Tigers!!!!

The patterning under the arms of last year\'s home and away shirts wasn\'t actually tiger stripes - it was an abstract pattern made up from the Umbro diamond logo. Most club shirts Umbro produced last year carried the same pattern, with a few exceptions - the West Ham and Rangers shirts used sections of the respective club crests I believe.

I know it is a late post but still..............I just dont understand why they either :

1. Didnt wear the goalkeepers green kit with short sleeves if needed (And dont give me the sh it about \"what if they want short sleeves\" well it doesnt take a scientist to find one in the club shop)

2. Didn\'t wear the plain amber one from last year.

3. Newcastle wear their away kit for one match clubs have done it before I.E Aston Villa vs West Ham both wore away strips.
