Manchester United Third 08/09 Nike kit

E-mail

manchester_united_08-09-nike-kit.jpg

Manchester United's new 08/09 3rd kit has been inspired by the success of 1968, when the Reds wore blue while becoming the first English team to lift the European Cup.

To celebrate the 40-year anniversary of the momentous night, Nike has created a kit worthy of that great team and their famous 4-1 win over Benfica at Wembley. United will therefore wear blue as their third kit for the 2008/09 campaign and as the preferred kit for this season's Champions League away matches.

The new blue shirt includes a number of details that celebrate the anniversary including the embroidery of the words 'May 29th 1968' and '40th Year Anniversary' around the crest.

The kit uses Nike Fit fabric technology, first used by Nike in national team kits worn by Nike-sponsored teams in the 2006 World Cup. This technology is designed to enhance player performance by wicking sweat through the material and away from the skin. A full mesh back on the player's jerseys also aids ventilation.

United defender Rio Ferdinand said: "When you look at the final image you will associate it with the great team of 1968 with the likes of George Best and Bobby Charlton.

"Obviously they won the European Cup in blue so we hope we can walk in their shoes again with this kit. It's such a big part of the history of the club."

Just somehow I think if Man Utd were in the Conference you might not be so \"fanatical\". The Glazers must be laughing into their Beluga as they hoodwink more international fans into joining the United \"family\" to support a team they will never see in the flesh.

Good point. It\'s your business but I do care when the lifeblood is sucked by these corporate monoliths from smaller teams who are seriously struggling. Maybe thats the way of the world but when competitions like the Champions League are already deathly dull / competed between the same teams every year something has to change. The G14 will kill football. Anyway rant over, whatever makes you happy is all that matters

for christ sake some of you are so childish. so what if they are a glory hunter??? every club has had them no matter how much success they have, Gretna taking 15000 to a final and then going bankrupt 6 months later anyone!!!!

Simple fact is i am a Liverpool fan and we have had a shitload of them over the years, doesnt bother me.

And no im not one of them, i am 26 so dont really remember the great years but my family are all huge fans and it was passed to me, that said i was there in Istanbul (and athens) and you could not beat that feeling of being at the greatest game there ever was
Much like Man U in Moscow...

All that bollocks about the CL being boring, do me a favour. I think thats one thing that all Scum U, Chelski and Liverpool fans might actually agree on..... but ssssh only whisper it!!!!

Sorry but what do you suggest we change???

We get the best teams from the best leagues? Eh we do that..

We supply a league format so that the cream rises to the top? Eh we do that...

We let the smaller teams have their chance and if not they parachute into the UEFA cup where they will do better (Rangers anyone??)? Eh we do that...

While i cant stand Platini and UEFA calling the CL Dull and boring is just pish. The same teams every year??? What a dumbass comment, Of course it is, its the best team comp in the world!!!!!!

Like saying the Euros and World Cup have the same countries every time, well duuuuh we cant create new countries and teams overnight to spice it up...
And another thing censored off and leave the guy alone, think he has proved he\'s a geniune fan, his choice who he supports.

What a total load of SHITE. censored having the \"best\" teams. European cup = Championship winning teams. With that bring back the Cup Winners Cup, Uefa cup is also totally rejuvenated.

And \"TheMancManc\" was totally right to have a go at some fake who feels so inadequate he has to print a picture of his (maybe?) unimpressive collection of shirts to justify his support.

For a club with \'Gloryhunters\' for fans United have always had the highest attendances even through the relegation season in the 70\'s and the dull days of the 80\'s. At least you can\'t accuse City fans of being gloryhunters... and where were all the Chelsea fans before the Russian mafia moved in..?

It\'s a great kit btw. A year late but a great kit.

I think Chelsea will win the league this year. I used to support Arsenal, but they don\'t win much anymore, so I stopped. Ever since that David Bergkamp left. I used to like Man U as well, but until about four years ago, then Real Madrid. I couldn\'t understand it though, people kept saying David Beckham played for England, but he couldn\'t have done because he played for Real Madrid and before then Man U. My favourite international team used to be Italy, but now it\'s Spain. I used to like Greece too. My favourite Greek player was um...er...hmmm...Aristotle Onassis.

It\'s a blue t-shirt. Wow.
Must have taken about 60 seconds to design this one, by someone who forgot that MU won the European cup 41 seasons ago, so it\'s already out of date. Why not also use the old badge on the outside of the shirt?

What\'s with all the retro away shirts these days? Liverpool\'s grey effort is clearly the worst of them.

Must have taken about 60 seconds to design this one, by someone who forgot that MU won the European cup 41 seasons ago, so it\'s already out of date. Why not also use the old badge on the outside of the shirt?

What\'s with all the retro away shirts these days? Liverpool\'s grey effort is clearly the worst of them.

im gonna shock a few ppl and comment on the shirt!

i like it because it has that retro feel to it, its plain and smart, but why do man utd chelsea and liverpool need 3rd/euro kits?

all three are wealthy enough, its just another ploy to suck money out of the hard working fan!

anybody who pays £35-£45 for this is quite frankly a muppet, fans should boycott these shirts (that might be worn all of 2 times by the team) then maybe they will stop making them or at least reduce the price.

up the villa

but i think i\'ll defend none of the insulant comments previously posted and say just one thing about supporting football clubs, it doesn\'t matter where yourfrom or when you started supporting them, as long as you stay devoted to them for life you can call yourself a fan, surely that\'s case closed.

shirts ok, but is a little too shiny (flamboyant) for my liking, should suit Cristiano then

BTW, \"Manc Manc\" - Oldham isn\'t in Manchester. People from Oldham are Oldhamers, not Mancs.

As for people going on about it being too plain or having no trim - that\'s the way it\'s supposed to be - just like the 1968 shirt was plain with no fancy trim!

living in the states, whenever i see a man u jersey, i think that they might as well be wearing a \"GO SOCCER!\" shirt. but honestly these clubs are extremely fortunate to be making money off americans so i dont understand when people get pissed that people from other countries become supporters and pour money into their club. sounds pretty immature or selfish or something.

Well your views of \'go soccer\' are kinda immature, some people in the states know a thing or two about the game, so don\'t judge a book by its cover.

As for the 5% of the World\'s population line, what a crock, to quote Super Hans - \" a lot of people like Coldplay and voted for the Nazi\'s\" - the majority of plebs have no taste - hence the popularity of the soulless \"ManYoo\"

as an american and a united fan i have a few things to say...

first of all...dont assume that because i am an american i didnt grow up loving the sport and that i dont know anything about it. yes we have different names...but its the same game (it is amazing to me that people dont know that we got the word \"soccer\" from the english who used it as a slang word for association especially in connection with the football association). soccer is the largest sport in america for kids between 5-16.

secondly...lets not pretend like any club in the premier league...or la liga, serie a, or the bundesliga for that matter, wouldnt give half a testicle to have the market united has. you cant hate on them for being good businessmen and jumping into the american market before people realized it was worth it to do so. united games were being televised in america years ago and are what eventually lead to even things as important to the world as the world cup being shown. and while i am not brazen enough to give all the credit for things of that nature to united, you cant deny their place in them.

and finally...and probably the least popular of my statements, of which i will probably get bombarded with comments from even the united fans. while i am a die hard united fan and i choose them first a foremost in everything. i love seeing good players play, and i love seeing good teams play good games. i love seeing gerrard win the game in the 94th min, i love seeing agbonlahor score 3 goals in 8 mins, i love seeing stoke city finally connect on that long throw and win the game, i love seeing hull city make a splash in the premier league. i love seeing the heart of tevez, the skill of ronaldiho (he looks pretty good at milan), and precision of lampard. i love seeing messi with the ball at his feet, larsson with the ball in the air (did you see his goal against france, over the hill my ass), and nakamura on a free kick. i love seeing the underdog win, the cream of the crop score, and the hero sometimes fail (not because i am a united fan but, the picture of john terry sitting on the ground after his missed penalty in the cl final comes to mind). i love trading jerseys and raising scarves. i love the passion, the grace, and the creativity of this the beautiful game.

i mean...isnt that why you watch it?

p.s. i really hope berbatov goes to city

The \"blame America\" thing is getting kind of old. You should be happy to see your shirt all over the globe and not question the \"veracity\" or \"purity\" of the person wearing it. Hell, your best player doesn\'t want to wear your shirt anymore. Shouldn\'t he be the target of all your misery?
