Nike unleashes the Singapore Lions with new team kit

The new Singapore team kit incorporates latest innovation and technology to better equip the team as they tackle their competition in World Cup qualifiers.

Nike, together with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), unveiled the new national team kit for Singapore Lions today. The new team kit will be worn by the national senior team for the friendly match against Australia on 22 March 2008 and thereafter at the World Cup qualifiers match against Lebanon on 26 March 2008 at the National Stadium.

FAS President Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee says, “I’m proud to say that since the start of our partnership with Nike last year, our Lions have gone from strength to strength and won yet another Asean Football Championships. With the launch of the new national team kit, they are better equipped to face their biggest challenge as they play in the third round of the World Cup qualifiers. We belive that the new team kit will reinforce our Lions’ pride and identity and helps set them up for success.

The new Singapore national team kit, specially developed in close tandem between Nike global design team and the FAS, took more than six months to complete. The design team had specially formulated two colour palettes: Atom Red and Marina Blue, as key colours for the home and away jerseys.

The home kit in Atom Red is a reflection of Singapore’s national colour that stands for universal brotherhood and equality of men, and is also a multi-racial symbol of Luck and Courage. The away kit in Marina Blue is throwback to the historic jerseys of the past, reminding the team players of how far they have progressed through the years. The special Marina Blue colour also reflects Singapore’s identity as an island city surrounded by tranquil waters.

The Singapore flag is placed on the left, close to the heart, representing the national honour and respect that each player has for the country. A stylized lion head logo has also been specially created to be placed on the back inner collar of the jersey. Symbolizing courage, strength and power, the logo echoes the fighting sprit and resilience of the national team in the face of challenges.

17-year old midfielder Hariss Harun says, “I am very proud to wear this new jersey and play for my country. It gives us a sense of identity and propels us to play better on the pitch. I believe that our Singapore football fans will be able to connect with this identity and support us in our upcoming matches at the World Cup Qualifiers!”

Football fans can purchase replica supporters’ team kits from Nike retail outlets. The replica kits, priced at S99, are fabricated with Nike FIT DRY Technology and are slightly modified to provide a comfortable fit for supporters. The team kits are available at Nike by B.I.R.D stores located at Suntec City Mall, Vivocity and Cineleisure. They can also be purchased at Weston Corporation stores located at Peninsula and Queensway Shopping Centers.

No, it\'s like the Rugby kits. It\'s to stop the world\'s best defenders stopping the lightning fast Singapore front line as they race past.

The \"Red\" one has a blue collar and blue piping. Something, as Fang has said, Liverpool will NEVER have in their kit.

global force? lmao....FAS need to revamped their board of committee members, politician should not involved, bring in experienced sportsmen, qualified advisers ....as long there\'s politics in their sports they can\'t go far, it makes their players brain dead, there are more punters then supporters, there are more betting then cheering in their pathetic stadium

they should take a good look at their less developed neighboring countries stadium who stand proud for their national team

the guy on the right looks like he needs to slow down on the donuts. These kits are probably already being made in thailand...you\'ll never be able to find a legit one.

i have to disagree with 123. the singapore kits are great, color wise that is (but ya, what\'s up with the tight fitting though...so gay!). the malaysia home shirt should be redesign i think or should be made by a different company like puma or adidas. actually, i think nike is ripping off alot of national teams and pro teams with their designs. its like a third grader design the kits or something.

im not satisfied with the flaq, it looks cheap, there should be a national badge instead of a \"iron on look-a-like flag\"....

coz the badge says FAS... Forget After Service... They should put on the National Emblem which says Majulah Singapura... it will gives more boost to the players and pride...

that is one sweet shirt - the away one too which i alr got for myself. i know many guys still think singapore is in china, and the national team still has a long way to go, but what the heck, we went further than ever before in the qualifiers for the WC and those tightfitting ones are really good - if u dont have a beer gut that is.

and for goodness sake, malaysians\' jersey \'may\' look better but do you PLAY better? No. haha. look at the population ratio - bigger talent to choose from - nth to shout about though.
