New Sunderland 08/09 home kshirt by Umbro

After the leaked picture of the 08/09 away shirt.. here it is ... Sunderland's home kit for the 2008-09 season. The new kit will be available to buy from official SAFC stores (Stadium of Light; Sainsbury's, Washington; and Debenhams,Sunderland) on May 7. The red-and-white-striped shirt has a V-neck with a black insert and black bands on the shoulder area.

The SAFC crest along with the logos of the club sponsor Boylesports and kit supplier Umbro also feature on the design. The shorts are a traditional black, with red piping - and for the first time since the 1996-97 season, the home kit will have red socks.

The Umbro shirt is designed to be both visually imposing and performance enhancing, being anatomically cut to enhance the athleticism of the player (and it is according to Nyron!). The twill mesh body fabric is lightweight and breathable and for added comfort the neckline has no exposed seams.

Sunderland manager Roy Keane, who had an input in the design of the new kit, said: " always great to see so many fans in their colours at games and Sunderland fans certainly wear their shirts with pride." I'm sure they'll love the new design and we'll see lots of them wearing it next season." SAFC marketing and communications director Lesley Callaghan added: "Supporters can pre-order their shirts now and be confident that buying direct from SAFC helps to invest in the clubs future."

THIS KIT IS RUBBISH! Why release a kit that look nearly the same to sell to supporters just to take their money? I mean this is a insult to the supporters. IT IS THE SAME except for the black bit in between the collar. Well anyway to say the least im pissed off about it.

Nice to see the red socks back - but should have a white turnover. Decent enough design, but I\'m not into the black on the shirt - looks like Sheff. Utd.

no wear (c that) near as nice as the leaked away version, the black (much like the blue on the england away kit) just simply doesn\'t work, it\'s like they hired a colourblind designer with glaucoma, I mean it just isn\'t right somehow, from my piont of view.

Picking Andy Reid to model your new shirt is like picking Ashlee Simpson to sing your national anthem -- no matter how good the product, it\'s not going to do it justice.

But it\'s an ugly shirt, regardless.

the neck detail is nice but, the black detailing at the start of the sleeve & the red at the end of the sleeve are too much & nasty. socks are bad. guess the shorts are alright.

If that is the same as the current 1 you are blind. Thats the most yu going to get it different unless you ditch the red and white stripes.

Taking advantage of some very passionate support (including myself). How can they justify releasing 3 shirts last seaon and then realeasing another 2 this season. Absolute disgrace and i thought better of the club. Although the shirt might look half decent i will be reluctant to fork out another £70-£80 this year after spending over £100 last year on shirts. Its about time the premiership or whoever realises that football is all about the fans and decides to force teams to stick with the same shirts for at LEAST 2 years and after speaking to people at the stadium of light i don\'t think i\'m alone in this opinion.

The reality is if you do not like it do not buy it.
If people do not buy 3 footie shirts a season adidas,Umbro etc would not not bother releasing 3 a year.
Also the clubs agree/not agree the designs and the releasing of the kits.
Man U will be releasing a 3rd kit,Liverpool & Chelsea release Euro kits as do Rugby clubs the fact is it is unlikelly a footie-wide boycott would be footie wide.In Italy they release 3 kits each season and the Italians do not buy them(they are considered for playing only and it is only the Ultras that buy them.) and they companies rely on the worldwide market instead. Remember the 80s\' when it was rare to see a person wear a Milan shirt? Well go to shops this year they will be stocked in 3 versions often!
As for the Umbro range this season i like this home shirt and the Goalkeepers kit is good even if Craig Gorden doesn\'t exactlly look comfortable as a male model!

I\'ve never understood fans of teams like Sunderland, Newcastle and Celtic getting so pissed off with kit designs. There\'s only so much you can do with stripes or hoops, no matter what colour they are.

You know you\'ll all run out and buy it anyway.

Oh yeah, and Paul: nobody\'s forcing you to buy them, are they? It\'s your own decision if you want to blow a hundred quid a year on football shirts. Personally I wish I had that kind of disposable income.
