Manchester United's new home kit made by nike for the 2009/10 campaign has been officially unveiled.

The red kit, which can be pre-ordered online now, celebrates 100 years of Old Trafford with a large chevron across the chest, reflecting the design of the shirts worn by United when the stadium first opened during the 1909/10 season.

The back of the shirt has an engineered mesh, which is a series of small chevrons, a performance feature to offer the players even greater ventilation during games. Inside the black round-neck collar is a high quality woven label in red, white and black, while engineered into the side seam is a small label that reads ‘The Theatre of Dreams Since 1910.’

The shirt is made from Nike Dri-Fit fabric, which keeps the players drier, cooler and lighter by drawing sweat from the body to the fabric’s surface, while it’s three-dimensional construction gives more air space around the skin to reduce clinging.

The white shorts have a red stripe along the side, a red devil graphic on the back of the waist band, while the draw cords feature 'MUFC' on the tips. The black socks have a red chevron on the calf.

The players will don the kit for the first time during their pre-season tour of Asia next month. The squad fly out to the Far East on 16 July - the day the kit goes on sale and on which pre-orders will be delivered.

Wayne Rooney says it's an honour to wear the shirt week in, week out and is looking forward to pulling on the latest design.

"It's always exciting to see the new kit," he told ManUtd.com. "It's important that we like it and  get used to it before the season starts [on tour]. I'm really excited about playing in it."

Ji-sung Park echoed those sentiments, adding: "It always feels great to put the kit on and there is always a great meaning behind our kits. History is very important at this club and it’s something all the players are aware of.

"I really like the chevron feature – I like to think of it as ‘V’ for victory and hopefully we can win every game we play in the new kit."

It looks like Evra\'s wearing pyjamas. I think every day a round neck looks good, but on a footy kit, like last season\'s Bolton shirt, it looks kinda wrong. But who really cares Nike could have made a picture of a smelly turd on it, it\'s still going to sell in droves.

This new kit looks the same that Mexico used on germany 2006 it is the same only the collar of the shirt it is a little bit different i dont know what wrong whit the nike company that seem\'s that they dont have any imagination to make new models!
to be honest it is not bad at all but it could be better than this, a lot better i am a Man U supporter and sure i will get this one!

With so few details in this design, unlike the previous United home kits, I should think it\'s a kit for one season. All knew for a fact that AIG will be replaced next season and surely they will have a new home shirt with the new AON sponsor. If I was AON, I would not want to inherit a shirt from the previous sponsor.

Wow, seems I\'m the only one that likes this kit. I actually hated it after seeing the leaks but it really has grown on me, and I\'m sure I\'ll end up loving it after I see it a few times on the players during games. Hope that the away is black with a red chevron, that would be sick. Anybody have info/pics of the away???

Roma losers is right I\'m afraid. You were made to look like gimps.
Being a Liverpool fan I\'m actually really ok after going out to Chelsea, just to witness the panomime of moaning cheats getting a good dollop of poetic justice, ha ha!

Then we get the pathetic men against boys show, and saw exactly what happens to Man Utd when they concede to a team with quality who attack them.
Liverpool started this with the 1-4 humiliation at Old Toilet, then Fulham did the same with the Benitez Blueprint. Villa almost did the same but United had to rely on a 17yr old kid to save the day.
Anyway, the gift by Bruno Alves and a wonder goal by CR got United to the next stage against a woeful Arsenal overall, lucky no Arshavin there for United.

So United get to the final and no surprises, 1 nil down and the world fell out of the mancs, no heart, no courage, no belief, beaten in style.
Let\'s see how far the mancs get without their wonderboy and the dynamo Tevez who realised what United is about and took off, probably to Citeh, he he scatteh!

Valencia is the CR replacement? Not quite the same really is it?
It\'s going to be a struggle replacing those two, especially if the new players coming in have to wear those sickly shirts and look like a team of town mayors, how dashing!!

Oh god I can\'t wait until August, #19 on it\'s way to Anfield.
You\'ve equalled us 4 times before mancs, and every time we take off again.
Your team is in bits, your main men have either left or are too old
Too many holes to plug even if you get good players they\'ve still got to gel.
Ronaldo won you the title the last two times.
Time to move over, the wheel has turned, Fergie will quit when we win and you\'ll slide further down the hill.

I see Chelsea and Arsenal as Liverpool\'s competition for the title this time, United to finish 4th, that\'s not being biased, just the way it looks because of the state you\'re in.

There is a decent idea somewhere in this kit. The socks look good. The shorts look good. But the jersey...not sure it works. None of the parts seem to fit. From the V to the crest to the swoosh to the AIG. It lacks harmony. The V is bold but it is poorly adorned. For some reason the design looks better on the goalie jersey but even then it is still a little off. Umbro could have done better. Nike has lost the plot.

Also, do you really want to where a giant V on your jersey when you capped your season with a loss in the champions league? weird move.

Dunno about the home kit... but it definitely looks better here than with the leaked photos. Logo is a bit too low for me, maybe its just how Evra wears it. Even then, I kinda hoped for something a bit more... thoughtful? Slightly modified template comes to mind.

Love the goalie kit, wish it was the away at least. Oh well.

I don\'t know about the others, but I\'ve got nothing against this shirt..

It\'s not one of the best shirts, but still it is a good one.

Love the V, but as the same old comment goes, a white V would look nicer. There\'s too many blacks on the shirt.. but that\'s okay.

The Collar isn\'t very interesting though. In my opinion, it should also be V-shaped, whithout any colour (just red).

The shorts are OK. The red line isn\'t very common for united these days. But as a retro, it\'s not a very bad idea.

The socks are also OK.

I can\'t wait untill I see this shirt in play.

It will be only one season.. so i\'m gonna keep my fingers crossed for a better one next season.

\"Glory Glory Man United\"

You would think the biggest club in the world would have warranted a unique design, not a rehashed template used 3 years ago. Does Nike think we\'re all stupid?

The potential was there...a deeper, white V would have looked quite nice. But this just doesn\'t cut it, to be honest. Poor job, Nike.
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

0 # Gorgias 2009-06-29 06:46
White, deeper? If there is a color that looks deep that\'s black, but for the same token you get heaviness, maybe that\'s the reason why everybody complain.

They got a unique design, but first your template \"argument\": yes, tree years ago nike realesed their retro tendency, that we\'re still into, and if you have a little bit of memory you should remember the details on the sleeves that every nike club kit got, even ManUtd (06-07), and this shirt dont.

For those who say there are no details there\'s the \"v\" or chevron shapes on the back and the label celebrating Old Trafford centenary (unfortunately impossible to see in these photos). For those who hate the collar, I agree it does not look good but remember the retro-history idea, it definetly looks like a century old one.

Yes it\'s not the best ManUtd shirt but it is nice.

 Biggest team in the World? For the sakes of this sport dude, Barcelona just kicked Manchester\'s a$$.
And all those guys who compare it to Mexico 06. Just forget it lads, the simple thing it has a V on the chest doesn\'t mean it\'s the same design as the one used 3 years ago. Just read the first lines of the article, it\'s simply a commemorative shirt and it reflects a kit used by Manchester freakin\' 100 years ago. The V ain\'t even the same, it\'s slightly sharper then Mexico\'s and the model is actually similar at the neck with Barcelona\'s Away for next season.

I can\'t stand the black collar. Nike know full well the shirt looks better if the collar is the same colour as the main body of the shirt, hence the goalie shirts look like this:

The black collar on the home kit seems like a token gesture. Red would have looked so much better.

As a United supporter, I was hoping for a classic new kit, as I was never a fan of the old one. However, this one is probably worse, as it doesn\'t have the high collar, which was the old one\'s best feature. While controversial, the retro \"V\" isn\'t what bothers me. As others have posted, it\'s that it\'s just so dull and plain looking. It does look like a training top.

I\'m never a fan of only putting piping on a collar while leaving the sleeve seems blank (or vice versa). And how hard would it be to have put a nice little band of white around the black collar (similar to United\'s 2000-2002 Umbro kit) - that would have added so much more detail and quality. And where\'s the \"MUFC\" lettering on the back of the collar and socks? The best thing about this kit are the shorts. The red stripes haven\'t been used by United for years, so it\'s a nice touch.

Ever since United\'s classic Treble kit by Umbro (1998-2000), which is by far the best and most popular United kit ever, United\'s kits have gotten worse and worse, with the Busby Babes Nike kit of 2006-2007, the exception. I mean, look at all the brilliant detailing on the Treble kit - and that was a decade ago! Kit designs should be getting better, not worse. I look at creative Adidas designs like the new Chelsea and Bayern Munich kits and wonder what\'s wrong with Nike. I for one won\'t be buying this kit - unless United signs David Villa. Thankfully, United will only wear it one season.

Wait so if I get what you\'re saying right...you think that the Chelsea and Bayern Munich training bras are \"good/creative kit designs\"?!?!?! What are you smoking my friend? What Adidas did with Chelski and Munchen is take a horrible template that they have and give it the teams\' respective colors. That is not creative. Even if you think it is boring, at least United got a unique design and not a template (and one that looks like a frickin bra).

I work for a major football retailer and my boss has seen the actual new away United kit while meeting with a Nike representative, and he said that it will be black with a blue chevron.

The only thing I like about these kits is the white keeper kit.

Sorry United fans, I think season 09/10 is gonna be pretty poor and I fear for Sir Alex\'s future. But please quote me if I\'m wrong, next season is gonna be a weird one.

Anyway, Glory Glory. To the Hibees.

Ok, I can\'t believe even with the release of these images, some of you jokers are still on about "why is the sponsor still AIG?" The idiocy in cyberspace is overwhelming at times.

I don\'t like the kit, I think the black chevron is just too much, if it was white, then I would be on board. The GK kit is NICE, but a WHITE GK??? That\'s like dressing a two year old in all white and sending him to play in the mud, and expecting him to stay clean...

poor choice, shoulda just stayed with this...

not fair to criticise this kit i think that nike are going for a more traditional style with this kit as are alot of the other teams such as man city . the goalkeeper kit is very nice and it compliments the outfield kit which is a good thing because some goalkeeper kits seem to just not compliment the outfield kits such as chelseas goalkeeper kit. By the way this is nota biased opinion i am infact a reading fan.

Why change for one year...AIG stand down at the end of next season and whilst i don\'t want to jump on the band wagon about releasing kits for no reason but really come on do they have to bring out 3 new kits for 1 f**king year, especially when it\'s a poor as this. It looks like it\'s been thrown together and would\'ve looked much better with the collar as red and the V as white. Shame, i usually love the new United kits!!

I love everything about this kit except for the AIG logo. It\'s hard to wear United kits in America because everyone stairs at you due to the AIG logo.

Anyway, I love the black chevron and I like the black colar. Why are people so up in arms over the black colar. I think it looks great. Man, people are so picky around here. It\'s much better than are home kit the last couple of years. I hope they do a black away with a red or maybe even white chevron. This way I can retire the best kit of all time. United\'s black away kit for the 07/08 season.

It\'s an undoubtedly poor effort, I much preferred last years kit,no bull****, no frills, all red shirt, except on the back but it was pleasing on the eye, all white shorts, and black socks with the devil on the back but still that was ok. It was great to see the proper united red for once, but it could\'nt last could it, all these companies have to compromise tradition for innovation and to create the impression that the kit is actually a completely new proposition from the last to impress the masses ,which it really is\'nt. Both nike and club executives know they do\'nt have to make any real effort, they can release any generic humdrum design(which are usually templates for other kits made by the same company such as the mexico world cup 06 kit) , and they\'ll still make a huge return on the back of the loyalty of fans. The vast majority of fans will always purchase their teams home jersey. I\'ve just been on the club site to pre-order mine, but opted not to after seeeing the ridiculous prices.
