Official Manchester United 09/10 Home Kit Teaser

manchester-united-09-10-nike-kit-teaser-1.jpg

This is the official teaser for the new Manchester United 09/10 Home kit made by Nike which will be available in the FSC shop.

United's first-team stars have already taken part in a photoshoot wearing the new kit, but it will be kept strictly under wraps until the official unveiling on July 1st. The Reds fly to Kuala Lumpur for the Asia Tour on July 16, where they will wear the new kit for the first time.

"We launch the new home shirt the day we leave for Asia, so the team will be wearing it as often as possible – it’s the first time fans will see the shirt on the pitch," says United's relationship director Luisa d'Aprano.

Dave Seales, commercial manager at Manchester United Merchandising Limited, adds: "The kit launch always happens at that time of year but what we’ve got better at recently is to coincide it with the pre-season tour so that the shirt is available for the team to wear, and for fans to buy."

Rio Ferdinand says the players are always excited to see the new kit and insists the historical aspect acts as an inspiration to everyone.

"Maintaining the traditions of the club is very important," he told the club website.

"Last season we had the blue kit to remember the European Cup winners of 1968 and this one dates back to the 1900s to celebrate 100 years of Old Trafford.

"This club has always taken pride in its history - it acts as an inspiration to all of us and it’s great to see it represented in the new kit."

Does it really go well together? It\'s a nice shirt, thats fine. But my problem is with the shorts. I understand that they are looking for the traditonal 1950s style red stripe down the sides of the shorts but surely it would look better with with a black stripe instead so that it matches well with the black chevron on the shirt and the all black socks. I like the kit but I would prefer black on the shorts, not the red. Anyone else think the same?

I think you\'re right, we\'ll have to get used to it as always. But I liked the leaked kits with the white v more than this, and it would have matched better with these shorts. And I\'m not sure about the black v in combination with AIG in white either... I\'m a bit dissapointed in Nike.

I agree. I don\'t like the red stripe down the shorts or the round black collar. Very poor effort I think. Our sponsor is changing next season so if we\'re lucky we\'ll get an entirely new kit. Fingers crossed!

Now, I realize that they wanted to pay homage to their 1920s kit with the V motif, but I don\'t a black V on a red shirt works. I think they should have put a red v on a white away kit and left it at that.

I think if they wanted to pay homage to their history on the home shirt they should have done a green and yellow halved number like newton heath.

It\'s a legitimate question Mr all caps. AIG deal is finishing on June 2010 and Aon Corp will take over as the major shirt sponsor.

this whole v for victory thing is really reminiscent of the 2006 mexico kit.... look at the chevrons on the back of the socks.... identical to mexicos.

the only difference is the shorts.

It looks, I don\'t know, sloppy. It\'s like someone took the normal kit and put a plain, ordinary black V on it.

Maybe this is what finally pushed CR7 over the edge.

I quite like it, not keen on the collar though, would have looked much nicer as a V neck
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

0 # 2009-06-23 18:26
Yes - exactly. Why Nike didn\'t use the same V-neck and sleeve caps they used on this year\'s Barca and PSG kits, I\'ll never know.

Actually, I\'ll hazard a guess at this kit being much cheaper to produce than those ones - Nike are maximising their profits on this one buy skimping on design and materials.

I don\'t dislike anyteam in England
Well;the shirt of Manchester United is creative for me,but I don\'t think the black was the better color for the v and I regret a bit that the socks have become black too,I think it is better with traditional colours red and white.
But I don\'t say the shirt is missed,I just say that it would be better without black.

I haven\'t bothered to wiki this, but I\'m sure Man Utd\'s socks have been black on and off since the start of their history, and definitely since the early seventies they have only worn black socks in the league. So I don\'t really understand why you

\"regret a bit that the socks have become black too,I think it is better with traditional colours red and white.\"

Maybe you\'ve only ever seen them play in European matches?

The black socks were permanently introduced as a reminder of the Munich disaster of 1958 and in respect to those who lost their lives, as we all know black is a colour of remembrance. Until the disaster, United swapped socks according to, i presume, what was made for them, thus playing in red or black socks. The white socks are a modern inclusion for European games which I have never understood?! Anyone want to hazard a guess as to why?!

We may have lost Ronaldo and we may be losing Tevez for United goes on.... Anyway, is Ronaldo really going to be that good at Real Madrid?..cant see Kaka, Robben and all the other pretty boys doing much running around for him like Fletcher, Carrick et al do. Tevez is a bigger loss, his industry and graft make him a fans favourite and I feel bitterly disappointed that he has decided to move on. Not disappointed with Tevez, but with the club for not making him feel like a first team player. Anyway, this website is about kits, not players, so apologies!

aig will continue to be the shirt sponsor for the 09/10 season, aon will replace them for the 10/11 season.

Well...Chelsea fans dont usually like United stuff but this I like...The shorts have the \' OLD RETRO UNITED \' feel....The shirt looks as far as I can see sorta training tech but IS the official kit, thats my problem but it\'s an extremly nice kit. We have seen many a shirt of fakes of Man utd BUT yet the one with black \' v \' IS the official one as I can see....

There is a reason that the white socks were introduced for european games. In studies it was found that the white socks were more visible thus making it easier to pick out a team mate through a crowd of players. Sounds bizarre but i remember Fergie mentioning it a few years back in a press conference. Curiously the black socks don\'t seem to have hampered us in the league!

It will be interesting to see if United introduce a completely different design when the Aon sponsorship begins next year.

well, since this kit is going \"retro\" to mark the centenary year at the theatre of dreams, this could well be a one-season kit. united did the same with their 06/07 kits.

I\'d never heard that before about the white socks. I thought it was just an aesthetic gimmick Umbro came up with when they designed our \"Champions League kit\" for 97/98 season. That kit was retired in 2000 (I think) but the tradition of wearing white socks in Europe has remained ever since.

Another quote regarding white kits, from Nike a few years ago:

0 # 2009-06-24 18:14
\"White makes the players feel bigger and we are told increases the energy levels in the dressing-room when they are wearing the shirts\"

I find this interesting. The psychological benefit of looking and feeling good on the pitch should not be underestimated, IMO.

the story about white socks being worn because they are more visible is true....didnt help us in rome did it? as for the fella on here saying black socks being permanent beacuse of munich, that isnt true,The following 3 or 4 seasons United wore white socks then red for most of the sixties before going back to the traditional United sock of black with red top and white band in the seventies.
