Yes, the premier league championship :woohoo:

this shirt looks really really good, and the sooner the current monstrosity of a kit is dumped the better. Not sure about the club logo and adidas placements (rather have the crest over the heart) nor the lack of a collar, but on the whole, this is none too shabby. I like it.

and whats with describing Kevin Nolan as a Newcastle star? his biggest impact was that horrid challenge in the Everton game

MW..... Have a look at the photo of the new home shirt on nufc.com. There is a dark blue pipe trim running along the shoulders and under the arms - historically that would say our new away kit will be the same colour...??!!!

Do Championship shirts have to have a plain one coloured back?

If so will this be Black or White?

Thought it odd to use players who clearly won\'t wear the garment after this photshoot.

Notice that they weren\'t confident enough to press the Premiership logo onto the sleeves or the numbers onto the shorts...

There\'s no requirement
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

0 # 2009-04-22 13:11
There\'s no requirement - we (Hull City) didn\'t have panels on the back of our striped shirts in the Championship, and Sheffield Wednesday\'s new design for next season also features stripes on the back.

There\'s not actually a rule in force in the Premier League requiring teams to have plain backs, as evidenced by our and Sunderland\'s shirts this season. If memory serves it is a requirement for teams competing in UEFA competitions, but that\'s not something Newcastle have to concern themselves with.

As for these designs, not bad at all.

0 # 2009-04-22 17:58
They say that the plain backs on striped shirts are there to make it easier to identify players, but I think they\'re mainly a marketing ploy so that people who buy the shirt look at the big empty space on the back and are reminded that there should be a name and a number there, so decide to pump a few more quid into football merchandising.
Even clubs without stripes or hoops are getting in on the action, eg the broken random white line down the back of the Man Utd shirt.
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

0 # 2009-04-23 18:54
Whoever it was at UEFA who came up with this ludicrous ruling regarding plain backs for numbers should be shot. I know patches were used behind the numbers on old Newcastle shirts but not some big plain back which spoils the kit.

thanks Daz. Im sure watching Newcastle over the next 6 games we will have our hearts in our mouths plenty of times :Pinch:

I would still want the crest to not be in the centre, and the old magpie logo though, but Im happy with the shirt, shorts as long as they are black thats okay, socks should have been all black or with a white turnover.

This is nothing like out current home kit, which will go down as the worst in the clubs history, its kind of a sleeper bad kit, not too bad when it came out, but ruined by Mike Ashley and the so called players wearing it. love to see a yellow change kit, and keep the silver for when we play Wolves and Hull next season

My guess is that they will not be the sponsor next season.

However, with regard to the kit - it is the best since the Grandad shirt of the mid-nineties.

Not a Newcastle fan by a long chalk, but a least their fans are genuine.

Not like the t*ts from Kent who support Man Utd.

Thats a decent kit IMO. A bit like their Umbro one they had when Gazza played for them. They should be well pleased with it.

Good luck Geordies.

I think a new Kit is the last thing Necastle should be worrying about right now. Feel bad for Shearer coz he is such a Legend, Good luck playing in the Championship next season you bunch of ****ters, how do you get paid all that money each week and perform like a bunch of twats? Anyway, keeper kit is smart and the Home shirt looks the same again! Try and stay in Premier League Football Michael Owen?

No Premier League badges on the sleeves.

Surprised Owen agreed to model the kit seeing as he will never wear it in a game!

0 # MW FROM WIDEOPEN 2009-04-22 16:27
Er, he probably will, in the last few games of the season, against Middlesbrough and Villa, so he probably will wear it. whether he\'ll actually play in the game, well judging by his current form, probably not...........

I like the goalie top as well, very classy, and I think that means we wont be getting a sky blue shirt for the change.

On the NR logo, I think it looks real, but not sure who will be sponsoring the toon next season, hopefully Local company sage (whose logo I put on my fantasy toon kits- Love to see something similar to the yellow kit I made worn as the second kit), but its more likely to be sports direct.

on the back panel, Ive got a funny feeling that its there for a second sponsor, just in case the worst comes to the worst.........

Grr! why go retro if you\'re gonna chose the really uninspiring 1987-88 Umbro kit? This collar also appeared the classic Adidas Arsenal/Liverpool shirts immediately prior to their Adidas Equipment era of 1992, but by today\'s standards it looks too tight around the neck.

Why not make the stripe on the sleeve the same width as the shoulder panel to give it a smooth line and prevent it from looking amateurish? Or take the shoulder panel and/or the stripes right to the cuff?

I like the piping (which looks light-blue on these pics) between sleeve and body.

Overall, it tries to combine modern and retro, and it doesn\'t quite come off.
I don\'t like tight collars and I\'m not a fan of centralised logos either.
The shorts and socks are pretty nice though.

I love the top. I like the collar of 07/09 top better than this though.

Can the people here stop acting childish and just talk about the top? For those of you who keep banging on about Newcastle going down, you know very well that THREE teams go down every year and United happens to be one of them (most likely)

I hope to God than Man Utd drop down or one of the other big teams so the laughing can stop.

COME ON WIGAN!

This shirt is decent enough, certainly better than the last one! Don\'t like the HUGE white space on the back for numbers though (see Newcaslte\'s website for that image). If the black space is a requirement, so be it, but it looks dumb without a number. Overlap collar looks kinda cheap. Otherwise OK.

I love it! It\'s the best home kit we\'ve had in ages! I agree with MW from Wideopen though about preferring the club crest and adidas logos on either side of the chest and not in the middle. That\'s the only thing I\'d change & hopefully adidas will sort it before it goes into production.

This has gone a little way to restoring my faith in adidas - now watch them f*ck it up with shocking away & training kit as per usual.....!!

It\'s probably due to Uefa legibility restrictions.... though it\'s unlikely this shirt will see any european competition...

Anyway, it\'s nice to see adidas come out with something nice and unique rather than their horrible templates. This shirt is lovely, I might even buy one even though I\'m no newcastle fan. very attractive.

And I do hope they stay up, the premiership numbers will look so much better on the back of this than those horrible championship ones.

Still sponsored by Northern Rock. (or in other words the British Taxpayer.) A total failure, like Newcastle so a perfect sponsor then.

0 # 2009-04-23 03:12
The sponsorship money from Northern Rock was paid up front before they were bailed out by the Government - so it doesn\'t involve a single penny from the taxpayer. Hence why we still carry their logo

As a Newcastle fan myself, Im not sure I like this one; seems a bit cheap in a weird way.

Its almost like they\'ve simplified it in case we go down.

Then again the shirts have been getting progressively worse and worse for years now; the only decent one so far is this seasons 3rd strip and thats not even black and white....

There\'s not much you can do with a Newcastle kit without giving the middle finger to tradition, so it\'s a pretty good kit - I particularly like the socks.

I don\'t like how adidas insists on putting the three stripes down the shoulders of every shirt they make. Yes, it\'s a trademark for the company, but in many cases it ends up ****ing up the aesthetic of the shirt. This Newcastle shirt is a good case in point - it\'s striped to begin with, and having more striping down the shoulders detracts from the overall design.

Adidas used to supply virtually every team back in the 80\'s regardless of division, then they went selective with only top teams now they make kits for so called sleeping giant (in a coma more like) average CC Championship sides like the toon and teams like Derby and Peterborough. Teams like the toon and liverpool are good for kit manufacturers because their daft fans think the latest tops are fashion statements and buy them to wear over here on the beaches and in the discos and in the airports and in the streets and in the restau................... well you get the picture. Class pure class.

Nice pic Kerlon, one problem, Owen will be gone in the summer! Great kit for a Championship club, hope away kit\'s similar, shame all the players modelling it will be gone. Definitely next Leeds and looking forward to seeing it at Elland Rd. next season.

Q. What\'s the difference between the Toon keeper and a taxi driver?

Any shots of it with the Championship badges??

Oh and there will only be 20,000 wearing it down at St James\' every other week just like last time they were relegated from the top flight. Best fans in the world though!

i bloody love this shirt i like that they have finally put stripes back on the sleeves i think it would be better if the stripes went all the way up the back rather than a 1/3 of the way but the shirt is still great
