The Football League has given Ipswich and Newcastle dispensation to wear commemorative shirts when the teams meet at Portman Road on 26 September.

Sir Bobby, who served both The Magpies and The Tractor Boys with great distinction during a decorated managerial career which spanned 40 years, passed away in July at the age of 76 after a long battle with cancer.

In the aftermath of his passing, both St.James' Park and Portman Road were visited by thousands of fans from around the world wishing to pay their respects to the former England boss.

And The Football League have now granted special dispensation for the two sides to alter their playing kit for the game on September 26.

The Newcastle and Ipswich shirts, will be embroidered with the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation logo and the words "Ipswich Town v Newcastle United, September 26th, 2009".

The shirts will later be auctioned in aid of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation which helps fund cancer research.

I think the shirts should have no sponsors on them - only the Foundation\'s logo across the chest!

Nice idea, would have been better if they\'d have worn classic Bobby shirts, i.e. retro shirts to look like when Bobby was most known at that club.

tribute kits aside, that mitre kit looks really similar to Canterbury\'s rugby shirts... except the white ring hoop goes on the other side.
