The South African Football Association and adidas today launched the South Africa 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup away football shirt.

South African players will wear the new away kit for the first time when they take on Norway next weekend (Saturday, 28th March 2009) during the Nelson Mandela Challenge match in Rustenburg.

"Following our successful launch of the Bafana Bafana home kit in November 2007, we had to prepare a special design for the FIFA Confederations Cup, something that South African people would remember for a long time," says Zobuzwe Ngobese, the PR Manager at adidas South Africa.

The jersey design was inspired by the current above-the-line campaign that adidas is running to promote KOPANYA, the Confederations Cup official matchball. The primary colours in the campaign are green with yellow and there is a strong South African feel to both the look of the jersey and the advertising campaign. The jersey features the SAFA and adidas emblems on the front, providing special significance to both brands.

The technical specifications of the new jersey are, as always, designed to provide comfort and improve the performance of the player. ForMotion™ technology has been utilised in the jersey’s fabric which ensures that the adidas patented moisture management advantage ensures that the players stay dry and comfortable at all times, no matter how intense their workout on the field, which in turn guarantees optimal performance and better results.

"Adidas is extremely excited to be at the forefront of producing world class football products and the Confederations Cup tournament is a platform to showcase our brand to the world and display our commitment to FIFA as a partner of more than 35 years," said Zobuzwe. “Our support is firmly behind our national team and we hope that the new jersey serves them well and they make the nation proud while wearing it,” he added.

Bafana Bafana and Spain are two of the eight Confederations Cup teams that are sponsored by adidas and the global company will be hoping for one of the teams to reach the final. All the referees, ball boys, flag bearers and players escorts will be wearing adidas during both the Confed Cup and the World Cup. Next month, adidas will also announce the names of the 96 young people chosen as flag bearers for the Confederations Cup.

I really like it, it looks so so good, the fabric, the colours, the only \' thing\' I would change is the neck line as it does look dull. the rest however looks, suprisingly enough for adidas really stylish. i wonder if Spain will change their away kit, Italy are going pale blue and choclate brown(should that be expresso brown?) I hope so as the current Spain kit is dull beyond the call of duty. The notices suggest positive responce- even Iain is positive in a negative way!

It\'s a bit funky...in a good way.Not as outrageous as the Jamaica shirt from Kappa but just as \"ethnic\".

For some odd reason, this kit makes me happy. It\'s just...fun. It reminds me a bit of some 90s shirts.

at least it makes the impressions desigers took care bout the country, history, culture and haven´t just take the average design in the colors thy need.

Maybe they put some iron crosses and bratwursts into the new germany shirt.

that would be innovative :cheer:

Well it is already burnt into my retinas :Pinch:

I have to agree with Iain, I am still a bit undecided but at least Adidas have been prepared to take a chance and produce something unusual and indicative of the country it is for, so full marks for that.

Not a bad effort from adidas. Simple yet contemporary. The intricate shadow pattern makes for a really nice, original design.

It reminds me of the Puma shadow crest designs for much of the Puma-wearing teams in the 2006 World Cup, with the exception of Italy.

It looks a lot like the ABA Sport design for Mexico\'s home and away shirts for France \'98, although that was much more complex.

I do like the idea, but I think that there is too much contrast between the tone of the background and the tone of the pattern.

Very original shirt, It also reminds me of the \'98 Mexico WC Shirt

See Nike\'s Olympic basketball jerseys for USA and China. They even implemented vent technology in those designs.

ja but I\'m south african and i think this is ugly. the patterns are horrible. there are better traditional patterns with solid lines (not like this liquidy lines) on the 2009 confederation cup ball which i think are fantastic...

To the poster who said it is like something Nelson Mandela would wear - you are thinking of an orange jump suit with a 6 digit number on the front!
