good qulity BUT the design is already boring. Come on Umbro, put some more effort in it than just making a plain white home and a plain red away shirt! There's gotta be more to it

Not keen on the three lions being red on the shorts, but otherwise it's clean-cut and smart, even if it is exactly what everyone knew it would look like.

Fantastic kit... IMO, maybe better than the home one (I'm thinking of Bobby Charlton, Martin Peters, Geoff Hurst and co. lifting the Jules Rimet Cup in this kit).

I think it's better with the two shades. It'll look nice.

I don't like how there are white cuffs but not a white collar. I think it should be both or neither.

I also wish that the crest on the shorts was tonal like the home shorts.

censoreding wank and so are the umbro designs. How long have england had all red shirts for thinking it will be like when they won the world cup. censored the past and consentrate for now. Design something where players feel proud to put it on beside the three lions like puma or adidas kits. Refuse that crap like niig did with their kit..

England had red away kits for decades before they won the world cup in 1966 and have had red away kit ever since (with the exception of the 1996 gray one). Why people moan about the colour is beyond me - it's just as traditional as having a white home kit.

I can remember numerous sky blue away kits in the 80's! The one with the darker blue lion imprint that looked like Hoffenheim kit (or some german team!!) It is boring tho! We need something more classy now!!

Quality kit but the boys from '66 earned that star...I will that it wasn't basically the same color as the shirt and is hard to see.
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

0 # 2010-02-09 15:00
I agree with you concerning the star. It doesn't have to be plated in gold but it's actually downplayed by keeping it a shade of red. Are other colors not applicable? White star with gold trim? Something to stand out a bit more.

Overall classy kit. My hats off to Umbro for not keeping to variations of kits and going original on most designs.

+5 # 2010-02-09 18:02
It's about making the kit as much like it was in the old days, before they won the World Cup.

They didn't put the star above the crest until after 1998 when France added theirs. So '66 had been ignored for decades. This at least is for a larger artistic purpose.

Umbro's blog also says that hiding the star with tonal thread is about including the star to honor '66, but not burdening the current team with the expectations of repeating their accomplishments.

I think you can do pretty much whatever you want as long as there is an artistic purpose for it.

Looks decent, but its basically a copy of the 1966 world cup shirt with darker red sleeves. Dont get me wrong, looks nice, but I think this is too far in the past, the Home was a pretty good piece of design, but this looks a bit too retro.

But in a few weeks time, I may think differently. I did when the home came out, and I think that look class now.

Some really sour people on here. By the way, the creators of the sport of football, England, have always traditionally worn these plain colours for over 100 years until 1974.

How does using shirts with abstract stripes for the past 30 years outweigh the use of plain ones for most of their history?? The shirts are classic, clean, and although retro, are very forward thinking in concept.

well done. I'm loving the new classic umbro kits. Everything feels incredibly considered. Plus, this will be a shirt the supporters will be proud to wear for years to come. I tend to lean towards the more simple kits with the busier ones sitting in the dark collecting dust. Puma - please pay attention and get some new designers on your payroll!

The short sleeve cuff is also gonna be white, as pictured above the socks' pic. I'm not sure about it, yet. The differing reds (sleeve/body) may be a trick of the camera, as red materials do peculiar things under different lights.
