Italy officially unveiled the new 10/12 Puma away football shirt in Coverciano. The shirt will be worn at  2010 South Africa World Cup, and is available through the FSC Shop.

“The new uniform underlines the history of the Azzurri and becomes a special symbol because in will be the uniform used by the World Cup champions during the one-hundred year anniversary of the National team”:  these are the words pronounced by the FIGC president, Abete, in the press conference for the presentation of the new uniform. “The innovative features experimented by Puma for this new uniform – added Abete – will allow players to optimize their performance”.

In fact, as explained by Puma, the technical sponsor of the National team, the new uniform was created using a scientific technique that captures and quantifies human movement.  Technological innovation, but also loyalty to the tradition in colours.  Italy, in fact, the 10/12 home kit is blue with white details, while the away uniform will be white with details in blue and gold.

The new kits are part of the PowerCat 1.10 collection, that also includes the PowerCat 1.10 football show, a must for performance and style. The official home shirt is characterized by a unique body fit and graphics that recall battle armour, to go on the field ready to fight for the fifth title.  The Away kit has another interpretation of the same PowerCat design.

“It is a nice uniform and I also hope it is lucky”, said the team captain, Fabio Cannavaro, showing a jersey with the number 5 and his name on it. The same opinion was given by the head coach, Lippi: “The uniform is much more than just a modern fabric, it has an eye-catching line, a particular design.  It is the crowning of a career.  I have seen a lot of jerseys, I hope it is as lucky as the others”.

I mean, come on, we will only have to stare at those shorts until the first round, as Italy have used up all their luck and go K.O.

Looks like they took the feedback seriously and removed the bionic chest from the shirt. Wonder if the same will be done on the home kit. The boxing trunks seem oddly appropriate for Italy

Now that I see the full away kit, it's an appropriate uniform for a bunch of guido hacks. man i cant wait to see them cry in this hideous outfit while they go out in the second round.

Why has Puma changed their logo to show the continent of Africa? Have they relocated to Africa or something? I understand they make kits for a lot of African nations, but why change your logo to a continent that you (Puma) has really nothing to do with?

As for the shirt, it's nice enough.

This is only a marketing strategy. If they had changed the logo, the african map would be embroidered on the shirts too.

Well it's a bad marketing strategy then. It would be like if Umbro added a outline of England next to their logo and showed that logo at a Ireland or Lyon kit unveiling......IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!

The socks are missing the L and R... players will be so confused, he he.

By the way, I saw both shirts, home and away, at Puma Store in Plaza Andares, and don't look that bad.

Better than the Horrendous, hideous home kit but that's not saying much.

The shirt isn't bad but the pointless boxing-style shorts are God-awful and spoil the kit completely.

Italy should go back to Kappa, they made excellent kits for the Italian team.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, just a bit:

The belt-buckle shorts won't catch on in future.

The shirt its self is really nice.

Shorts would be nice if it didnt have the belt on it.

Socks are nice.

Numbers and font are a bit strange, nothing will beat the puma pace font of 2006 World Cup.

The shirt is OK, I think the best non-african Puma shirt so far. The shorts look weird with that "boxing title belt". Also, the shorts look pretty long to actual standards.

correct, this seems to be the trend for the world cup; Nike are doing the same, just one template........only adidas seem to have a view templates....

I'm not a big fan of simple color palette swaps for away kits, but this has one big advantage over the Italy home kit: no drawn-on gladiator abs.
