I preferred last seasons kit as it was more of a nod to the past. 3 new kits a year is excessive. Tracky top looks good though.

RED? In a city kit? Is that allowed?

It's not red, it's maroon, fairly traditional accent colour for City since about the 60s. Also the colour of one of their est ever away kits in the early ninties. I miss those days!

uhh no that's maroon.
That's as much red as the stripe in United's away shirt was so blue last year, in other words, not so much!

Their third kit is white, red and black. All United colours.

Anyway, they've won maroon since the very first Umbro shirt they wore in the 1933 FA Cup final. The traditional 60s-70s City scarves were blue white and maroon like the thing inside the collar.

Also Chesea, United's away kit chevon was not "baby blue", it just looked lighter against the black.

That's probably because Umbro is owned by Nike, who makes Villa's kits and I'd guess that since they are part of the same company they share fonts and such

It's a very common font. Probably Minion or Trajan.

Umbro operates independently from Nike. Just like Reebok and Adidas.

there is no need for this kit, almost identical to last seasons, it's a kick in the teeth for fans. teams need to be made to keep their home shirts for 2 seasons like they used to, unless they have a change of kit maker or sponsor

I think that people who say it shows no imagination are missing the point. These shirts are about tailoring.

In my opinion, all those flashes and chevrons and other crap that you see on shirts look dated.

Just a shame that the trailblazer for all this simple tailoring is the world's most primitive footballing nation.

+4 # 2010-08-03 17:35
Do you really think that an item of clothing which is sold in the tens of thousands is actually tailored? It's stitched by the same kids in Asia that stitched them when we wore baggy shirts.

It's just marketing rollocks.

I think it looks fab. I'm really loving the 'tailored' range by Umbro. I do think however, that it's overall appeal would be enhanced with the introduction of an Elizabethan style 'ruff' and with big puffed out sleeves.

Same old, same old. In saying that I do like this, but it's a slightly inferior version of the shirt that it's replaced. Plus a new kit every season is a disgrace, and that applies to all clubs. It's not as if we're getting anything particularly different anyway.......City's new kit nest season will still be sky blue, Chelsea's will be blue again, Liverpool's red etc etc

AND, does anyone know why the richest club in the world still need a shirt sponsor? They hardly need the money...

Not sure if serious.

1. The point of a home kit is that it's always the same colour.
2. Shirt sponsor = income. Have you been asleep while Platini introduced his "income only" brainwave?

I am serious about point one - it's good that tradition rules and that City will always play in sky-blue, Liverpool in red, Chelsea blue etc but it's not so good that every season sees a big ol' fanfare for yet another kit that is essentially the same as the one it's replacing. I like this City shirt, but it's last season's with a different colour collar. And they'll still charge £40 plus for it. It's a disgrace and just fleeces idiotic fans (like me, I'm guilty, I buy them too) and this time next year there'll be another sky-blue City home shirt for sale at £40 plus, and another red Liverpool home shirt etc etc

Point two was serious, but I didn't know about Platini's diktat, so you've got me on that one

Umbro will have a problem sustaining the tailored range for more than 1 season - there is little you can come up with, either everybody will adopt the retro look or they will need to go back to more or less "modern" templates as well.

What I'll never understand about the soccer world is why, when a team comes up with a classic, iconic kit like the one Man City wore last year, they feel the need to trot out a new one right away. This obviously draws on last year's, but all that really tells you is that there was no need for a change. City could have worn that kit for a decade or more and no one would have complained.

Obviously the need to sell shirts drives them to change every year, but if customers knew there would be a sense of permanence about the kit, don't you think a few more people would be willing to invest in a shirt?

Can't wait for the training gear, and the keeper home kit is off the hook sick!
Man, City is sick with it! Dude the only thing for future home kits or for training range is that they need to mix gold with the sky blue. The eagle is gold so incorporate that with the sky blue.

Hello

This is Aitor Throup's template on a city shirt. Yes this shirt looks like last seasons, if you don't like it don't buy it I guess. As regards design I find it a touch lazy that they have used the England template on this shirt.

But I know that I will be investing in the warm up jacket!

All the best
