southampton 125-anniversary 10-11 home umbro kit

Southampton unveiled next seasons Home Kit as part of the Club's celebration of their golden 125th Anniversary season.

The new design is inspired by our original kit - the first ever worn by a Southampton side. The iconic red sash design of white shirt and shorts with black socks will replace the traditional stripes for the club's 125th Anniversary season only, and is the first home kit which is not predominantly red and white stripes for over 2 decades.

It is a very distinctive kit that not only embraces and celebrates Southampton's history and tradition, but also their future. 125 years is a fantastic milestone and the kit is just the first part of many ways in which the Club plans to celebrate our anniversary over the coming season.

To commemorate the kit release, for the first time ever, the Club will be holding a special launch event at St Mary's this Saturday. The kit will go on sale from exactly 11.25am exclusively at the Stadium Megastore, awarding all those fans keen to be the first to get their new shirt before anyone else.

As part of the special launch event the Chapel concourse will be transformed into an event hall where you can enjoy exciting entertainment, food and drink, all available from 10am. The concourse will be revamped, allowing you to relive famous kits and goals from the past on big screens, before live screening of the days World Cup matches.

"It has been a long design process which has taken many months. We were keen to offer something special for our anniversary and our original kit was the obvious choice" explained Club Spokesman Jordan Sibley.

"Fans will notice the shirt is without a commercial sponsor after our Chairman, Nicola Cortese, decided to give the kit back to the fans in celebration. This fantastic gesture has gone down extremely well with supporters and we expect shirts to be flying off the shelves.

"We are convinced that this is a shirt that people will want to wear not only at football, but as part of their everyday life, wearing their colours with pride" Sibley added.

The Club has also decided to keep home kit prices at the same level of £30 for a children's shirt and £40 for adults, prices that have remained constant for over a decade. Fans who want to have their shirt personalised with the name of their favourite player can do so for just £12.

Thanks to Dom and James

Gorgeous kit...Umbro have really re-invented themselves this year with the 'tailored by umbro' retro style kits. This has a slightly Latino flavour to it, maybe because it resembles the River Plate kit, but nonetheless gorgeous. Well done.

This is a really nice looking strip and all.. but..

I was on the umbro flickr last night, and, this is just a teamwear kit, from the new umbro teamwear series.

No, its not. If you'd look thats the Man City 3rd shirt from last season, this shirt has a collar.

The "New" Umbro teamwear range that they've mentioned on the blog is not new at all - the kits have been out for over 12 months. I don't know who they are trying to fool.

I think you mean the "Vasco" teamwear kit anyway, which is slightly different. The sash is on the opposite side. It's not the same as the City third kit either as that has a crew collar and the sash on the same side as this Southampton kit.

It looks a good kit, this one, but some closer shots would be nice.

It may be their original kit, but it still instantly makes me think of Peru.

@ total life forever, no it is not a teamwear shirt. Yes since last season umbro have had the vasco on their team wear rosta and no change to it this year (I own it).
This shirt is obviously very similar but also many differences & is entirely bespoke.
Exactly what I expected, fantastic shirt I love it.

LOVELY KIT......I like it with the black socks too...
NICE...

England would have looked great with the sash & Navy socks.....
Two dumbass things though.
''It has been a long design process which has taken many months....''
BULLSH*T.....
its based on an old shirt - brainstorm done....
its all white with a red sash.
Believe me that took 10 minutes to draw up (I'm a graphic designer).
also
it should have gone on sale at 1.25 am or pm.....because its a 125 year anniversary...not a 1125 one..

NUMPTYS.

the original st marys fc the sash wasnt uniform anyway some went l-r and others r-l and the badge was hampshire fa
still should be stripes!

0 # 2010-08-06 10:03
Actually it is because the original sash was detachable, there had it any way they wanted. Probs in photos the photographer told them to all match.

But this way does add emphasis to the badge more!

+3 # 2010-06-25 00:34
The reason Umbro reversed the sash on the Man City kit was to emphasise the badge.
