usa world cup 2010 nike shirt away design

This is the new United States 10/12 Away shirt design made by Nike which will be worn at the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. The new US 2010/2012 kits will be available through the FSC Shop after the official launch.

Legal people at Nike have registered photos of all national team shirts sponsored by Nike as a ‘registered design’ at the European Design Office.

Intellectual property specialist Diederik Stols explains: “It is logical that sports companies around the world register just about anything in an attempt to monopolize the market for national shirts. Nike did just that. But they should better have registered the designs one day before the official presentation, because the designs are now publicly accessible via the Internet. This time around, Nike has leaked its own shirts”.

I think it's only slightly better than the home kit. I think this is the jersey the US would be wearing vs England. Its also a clash of styles, Umbro VS Nike (although Umbro belongs to Nike now). I prefer the English Umbro all white shirt all the way.

true, but the nike stripe strikes me as being something of an afterthought. that's just how i see it, personally.

@LFC13: If you recall 2006, I think the sleeve stripes are Nike's trademark for this year. 2006 had the curvy stripes on the very end of the sleeves. Ours were gold trimmed, where as Mexico's were filled in the opposite color of the shirt.

I recall the 06 shirts having the trim which was nice but moving that into an elongated bar with rounded edges just seems a little ambiguous.

It would have made more sense to put the Nike swoosh within the stripes in lieu of right chest placement.

Yes, I don't mean to say I think it looks good, I merely think that the Nike's trademark design in each kit is the stripe for 2010. I do agree the gold trim in 06 was nice.

Yes but that was somewhat subtle. These stripes are gigantic and really have nothing to do with the design.

Lovely pair of shirts for USA. Wish them all the best at the World Cup in South Africa. Hopefully they pull off a shock and do what they did in the Confederations Cup, bring the Cup home with them to the USA and let soccer grow in America!

For a football shirt it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of room for the shoulderpads :(
The shirt seems too tight and will look weird when coupled with the helmet.

Actually indeed looks a little like a rugby shirt (Canterbury brand); by the way, rugby players are not gay as American football players. They don't use helmets and shoulder pads as the sissy americans!!!

why dont they have it resemble the american flag? this design makes no sense. why not have the jersey white with the stripe red and the name and numbers blue.

and for the away, have the jersey red with a white strip and the name and numbers blue. that way the jersey will at least resemble the flag so it will show country pride going into the world cup. i know im looking a lot into it but its a better idea in my opinion.

for me, personally, i'm not for using all three colors just because the flag uses all three - i feel it often comes off as a contrived attempt to do exactly that - use all three colors.. i rather like netherlands and italy tops as a rule, and neither uses the color of their home jersey on their flag. same with ghana and germany.

ghanas jersey resembles their flag somewhat and germanys jersey s exactly like the flag so im not sure what you mean on that last one. ghanas home jersey is a plain white with black number/name. they have a black star in the center of their flag and their team nickname is "the black stars".

as far as germany.....their jersey is white, yellow, red, and black. true its not as flag obvious as their 06 kit but its still there.

0 # 2010-02-15 23:46
the point i was making with ghana is that they use precisely one of the four colors of their flag on their kits, and i'd sooner associate white with ghana kits than i would black. germany kits are white and black. the end. yeah, they've lately started adding the gold/yellow and the red as trim elements, but i can't in any way agree that germany's kits are "gold/yellow, red, and black."

yeah, I am just not feeling these.

Then again, I like the home kit we currently wear.

I guess I expect more from Nike when they make the US national team's kit, I mean Nike are an American company...

I dunno, not feeling it, sorry guys...

....Sorry to say but this design should have been left to a creative mind. ..This shirt resembles a Rugby Team....
In modern times it should display a peculiar color of the nation. Italians got the nick as"the Blues".....Would You call the Americans...."The Reds"??? FORZA USoA!!!
