USA World Cup 2010 Nike Kit Leaked

E-mail

USA-world-cup-2010-nike-shirt-leaked.jpg
This seems to be the new USA 10/12 Home football kit made by Nike to be worn at the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, and which will be available through the FSC Shop and Official Nike Store

Apparently the shirt design is based on the shirts used by the US national team at the World Cup 1950.

In the 1950 World Cup, the United States lost its first match 3–1 against Spain, but then won 1–0 against England in what is widely considered one of the greatest upsets in football history, England having recently beaten the rest of Europe 6–1 in an exhibition match. Sports Illustrated and Soccer Digest have called the game the "Miracle on Grass."

Not a great picture. As a yank I'm excited to see the new kits. Want to see a more detailed pic but I like the current kit better. I like the all white look though. If the away jerseys were the concepts I've seen on other sites than I'm pretty happy with those. It should have been an actual diagonal stripe and not a 'watermark' look.

yes, why the light water mark stripe? The 1950's kit is nice - I think they should've made a darker diagonal.

Nike has made us some great strips in recent years and this is no different, although I think the red shorts stripe is slightly incongruous with the navy collar.

The US is a team on the rise.. we are all expecting great things next year.

I like it but there is nothing new, or innovative, or fresh like the adidas and Puma kits.

If this is going to be the standard Nike template (collar, cuffs, cut) then it is a huge let down. I do like it though, anything beats those horrible adidas kits they had at their World Cup in '94.

It's just another new look - it doesn't look like a new material, a new cut, ground-breaking technology - it looks like the techy bits are the kits underneath, but in the African heat - they will be more of a hinderance than a help. The cycling-style shorts will chafe so bad.

I do like the new undershirts though!

If it is meant to be a nod to the 1950 team, then why isn't the sash red? The white sash isn't just hard to see, it's also inaccurate to the 1950 team/kit it is supposed to be honoring. I don't get it. And those red "half-stripes" that don't wrap around on the sleeves? Horrific looking.

All in all: worse than the current kit, but if they make THE CORRECT CHANGE to that jersey so that the sash is red, then I could dig it. I've seen mocks of a red kit with a blue sash that looks pretty stellar too, so I hope that red/blue one ends up being our change kit.

Yeah, the two aways are blue with a white sash, and red with a blue sash. They are waiting to see what the group looks like before they decide, hoping to maximize color contrast.

I totally agree with you that the white shirt should have a red sash. Even a darker blue sash would have looked good to me. I don't know, there's something about the faded sash that looks off to me.

Not sure but this may be a fake. Clint Dempsey is not number 10, he's number 8. Landon Donovan is 10. Worth checking out if it's the real thing. I saw a link to the away and third kit on the Portugal undershirt article's comments and they looked like they were made for the kit design portion of this page. Plus when has a nation needed a third jersey for a World Cup.

First of all, the US team have already worn 1950 throwbacks in the past - and with a bit more authenticity.

So that's not the point of the sash - it's more subtle reminder than commemoration. Also, maybe the federation and Nike don't want to use Peru and River's white w/ red sash - and maybe that has something to do with neither being Nike shirts.

I love the shirt - will say that the cleaner Nike/Umbro styles are my thing. I don't like crew necks, but that's OK. It looks like a clean, white football kit - with an interesting design feature that doesn't dominate the aesthetic. Like the current kit with its subtle red lined grey hoops.

Gazhorn and others

WC2010- climatic challenge, Bloemfontein 8h00 pm -4 very cold conditions and dry, same evening Durban can be 18 and dry and then Cape Town is 14 and raining. One country with very diverse climates during winter.Who has the answer to this? from what I see not nike and puma, only the 3 stripes.......

I just don't like the grey on white we did that on our most recent shirts. But other than that its a good look, and I am a fan of the white shorts. As far as an away i'll be happy with anything other than Dark Grey like we have been wearing.

As for americans liking it and euros not liking it... why do so many Euros like the stupid curvy stripes and wavy templetes that adidas uses so often? I prefer a classic look like nikes Dutch shirts from a couple years ago.

What really bothers me with this kit, is that there appears to be two or 3 clashing styles happening all at once. Really simple things that could have been avoided. The collar, the sash, and the sleeve trim all don't match in terms of both color and style. Why would a crew neck work with either the sash or the sleeve trim? I also really think this could have been great with a red sash and blue shorts. I would have even liked blue socks in there as well, to pay total tribute to the 1950 side. Especially now that the US will be playing England in the first game.

I like the sash idea, hate the execution. Someone else said it best, that the three big concepts don't seem to blend very well. The sash should be more than a stain, the neck should be V, probably collared. God, I hope these are fake. The away looks better, but still, at least V it up and fix those sleeves.
