york city 10-11 nike kit vote

York City FC are launching next seasons home kit and the fans can decide which is their favourite.

The club have two kits to choose from and the new kit will be worn for the next 2 seasons and will be again be made by Nike. It is the first time that the Club have offered the fans the chance to decide on the kit.

After releasing the above kit vote York City have received a tremendous response to their initiative to encourage supporters to choose the team’s home kit for the next two seasons. A large number of fans have texted in their choice from the two options currently on show on the club’s website.

There has also been huge debate stirred up by the move as many fans commented they would prefer a red & blue kit to a red & white one.

According to the club there are a number of reasons for the decision to offer two red & white options, which fans may not be aware of and the club would like their supporters to know the reason behind this:

After a number of years of red & white strips, the club returned to red & blue at the start of last season as it was felt that this would be a popular choice with supporters. However, this has caused problems in two areas, the most important one of which has been a feeling amongst the football management and players that the kit has made it difficult for players to identify their team mates, particularly under floodlights. Additionally, Conference rules request that dark colours are not used as these can cause clashes with the kit worn by match officials. Eagle eyed fans will have noticed that City have switched their shorts and socks from Blue to Red half way through the current season for the above reasons. In addition to this, although there are Red & Blue kits currently available in the Nike range, none of these are available to the club on a two year deal which would mean changing kits again at the end of next season. This would be unfair on fans as the club are committed to changing their strip every two years to save supporters the expense of buying new shirts every year.

However, the club have taken Supporters views into consideration and will now be incorporating a set of blue shorts into the fans choice of kit for the next two seasons.

Why are they bothering putting the socks and shorts from the world cup templates with old team wear shirts? With that said I still think A is a better looking option.

Big houses such as Nike should team up with lower-division clubs like York City to experiment new ideas, not to get rid of surplus stock!

Today the winner was announced as B (the one on the right). This is so silly, York City have such a rich history and herritage but since we have fallen on hard times and dropped into the Conference we get whatever kit is going. I love Nike, they make the most comfortable kits by far, I know this because I play football and have worn each different make of kit pretty much but this whole limited selection of templates business is just stupid. York City are all red shirts (or with some navy trim of course), navy shorts and red socks, no ifs ands or buts. There should be no deviation from our colour scheme! We first started wearing Nike when we were in the Football League and we got just what we wanted but now it seems if you drop into the Conference you get crapped on. It's a shame really. I say this but it does seem that the big names like Nike and Adidas care increasingly more about the bigs clubs and only the big clubs actually. Fulham wears the kit on the right, only with black and not red do they not? They are doing well in the Premier League and are in Europe to boot. How much better do you have to be before the big names take notice and design you a unique kit? Sure, give us a standard template, a template Fulham uses but at least let us have navy sleeves and not white. Surely that little amount of customization wouldn't kill Nike. At the end of the day A would have been the better option of those two, there is a bearable amount of white and it matches our away kit that we are keeping. Like I said a very silly decision has been made!

you guys are retarded....

im not defending nike (although the kits arnt ugly) but its not nike that are specifically designing these kits for york city. these are cataloug templates. the team purchases them. so this has nothing to do with the fact nike put effort in this because there were pre fabricated already. go to any soccer store and you'll find a catalouge to order kits for you're team. theres no way nike is going to specifically design a kit for your sunday league team, let alone proudly stand beside york city as a proud sponsor on the same caliber as barcelona, if this were for a premiership club then i would agreee shame on nike. but this is for a friggin champion league team no one cares about them.

@Rev

It is probably likely that York have a deal with a distributor of Nike teamwear in the UK. It is unlikely that they purchase the shirts in the same manner as your local pub team. This explains why they are tied into using Nike branded kits. I'm sure someone like Errea or Joma would have been able to supply a red and blue kit if they were simply purchasing kit.

There is no need to call anyone a 'retard' or be sniffy about lower league teams. They may not attract large kit deals but plenty of people care about them and i'm sure you could have made your point without being rude.

They are both terrible. The shirt with the white arms looks like a shell suit from the eighties. The current red and blue kit is at least stylish and makes the York City boys look the part. Obviously if push came to shove I would choose the red kit with the thin horizontal stripes but it would be a decision made begrudgingly. Very poor indeed.
