England 11/13 Umbro Home Kit

england 11-13 umbro home kit

Umbro revealed the new England 11/13 Home football kit, which is available on pre-order Here.

Designer Peter Saville designed the new England kit, read all about it in an interview with the Manchester born Designer , or watch the Umbro Video with Peter Saville at our new blog ViralFootball.com

The shirt, like the previous England home and the current England away, is inspired by English tailoring heritage, but with the latest in innovative, technical design. Constructed from two distinct cotton-based fabrics, the shirt is thicker for protection on the front and back, and more flexible in the under-arm, increasing movement.

The neckline is perhaps the most eye-catching aspect of the new kit, with a square collar accompanied by a longer, more open neckline which increases the amount of movement in the garment across the chest. This is particularly important for players when they’re running and changing direction quickly on the pitch.

With the New Fabric Of England graphic on the shoulder and a blue Umbro logo on the chest, the new home shirt certainly adds colour to the England palette. This continues with the shorts, which are royal blue, and the socks, which are white with a royal blue trim. Both are developed into an ergonomic shape that again provides a fantastic fit for the players and aids their on-pitch movement.

Goalkeepers always stand out on the pitch, but in terms of the new England goalkeeper kit, it’s built using exactly the same framework as the outfield kit to emphasise team uniformity. In black with purple piping which was added to give the look of a formal shirt, the goalkeeper shirt features the New Fabric Of England motif in a subtle tonal black throughout the shirt. With shorts and socks also in black, goalkeepers such as Joe Hart will look be looking sharp on the pitch, whilst having the freedom to let their football do the talking.

I prefer the royal blue shorts to the dark navy blue - but actually liked us in all white. Prefer the current kit - also,,,has been two years since the last shirt? It normally gets released in the spring...e.g. the new home shirt would still be worn by the time of the Euros - perhaps they are trying to get a quicker turnaround in the kits.

Amazing shirt. Not that much different from the previous one, but more importantly, is it me or are England kits coming out earlier and earlier? The present one only came out in April/May 2009. It hasn't had a full 2 years yet. And even still, its a marketing ploy by Umbro/The FA for parents to shell out £40-£50 at Christmas on another new England shirt when the away one has only just come out.

Surely once the cross of St George stopes being red, it is no longer the cross of St George. A yellow cross on a black background is the cross of St David.

There is nothing edgey about it, it will justlook like someone has drawn on your top

its not about looking sharp, its not a fashion parade, its supposed to be a football kit, but it looks shite and pretty camp. cant we just go back to the traditional navy shorts, we always wore them before and nobody was worried about style, personally i think they look like a bunch of faggots in this kit, its embarrasing and i certainly wont be buying it and i'll be taking the piss out of anyone i see wearing it

A nice, clean kit completely ruined by what they've put across the shoulders.

The most annoying thing about modern kit design is designers who don't know when to stop - it's a trend seen widely in a lot of casual mens wear. They make a perfectly good product and then add a load of meaningless rubbish.

I shall be sticking with the current home shirt.

It aways annoyed me that England used blue in their kits.
Why do they use blue?
Its in the union Jack....
The blue part of the union jack is solely to represent SCOTLAND.

Oh, i forgot that the English actually beleive that the U.J is just another English flag. Im doubtful that most of the english even know of Scotland, Wales and N.I.
Its all just england england england. all the time.
Stop using Scottish colours.

Dont like the way the collar? comes so far down the front.

And the shorts are too bright at least in those photos.

I generally prefer simple shirts but given their last one, would it not be too much to expect a little bit of colour to break up the shirt? A bit of blue/red on the collar/cuffs? I know the back has some but its hardly noticeable

Bringing it out before Christmas is sound business strategy from Umbro but I wouldnt be happy as a consumer seeing a new shirt 18 months after the last. They did that a few times with Ireland so I refused to buy them. Still, Ive seen alot worse...

Nah, over all umbro makes some great kits. NIke and adidas have put out some real duffers recently, and even when they do make good ones then everybody else has the same exact design anyway - that's boring.

Puma makes okay shirts, but i'm happy to stick with umbro, even if this one isn't 100% great.

This is the worst England kit I've ever seen!!!

What was Umbro thinking wen they created this embarrasing shirt?

What are these coloured St. George's crosses doing there? England's diversity? Oh my, please! And this deep collar down the chest?

They got the previous home kit and sorted out a way to ruin it in order to shame the proud and glory of the English Team.

I know. Because the authorities would have accused Umbro of being racist if there were red crosses all over. We have to reach out to other cultures remember.

Mind you, I wouldn't see Brazil, or Argentina, or Germany altering their cherished National shirts for the sake of multiculturism.

Why? The Daily Mail might like you to believe that, but it's not true. Everyone in this country, whatever their heritage, knows the national flag is a St George cross - red on white. Anything else and it is not a St George cross and thus has no relevance to the nation. No cultures in this country think that a pink cross or a blue cross represents them. Just because some far-right groups use the flag doesn't mean it should ruin it for the rest of us. The fact that the shirt is worn by people of all racial backgrounds on the pitch does all the talking we need to do about how diverse and tollerant we are as a nation.

The idea is really corny outdated, like something that would have been thought up in the 70s or 80s - which is pretty much when Saville's designs stopped being exciting and culturally relevant. If they'd have just said "We included multi-coloured flags because Mr. Saville just likes multi coloured things", then fair enough - his work for Manchester city council is testament to that theory.

In short, there are lots of things not right about this shirt - the premature timing, the multi-coloured crosses, the ridiculous collar design and the cut (abandonning the perfection of tailoring of the last kit for no reason but change for change sake). The tabloids will have a field day with it - the incompetant FA really bring this stuff upon themselves, don't they?

England did have royal blue shorts when Keegan was around in the early 80s. Yup, I'm talking about that kit with the stripes on the upper part of the shirt; and yes to me that kit was great.

Obviously I'm with everyone else in questioning the necessity for a new England shirt - unless its early introduction is because the last one is too readily identified with a dark old world cup and it's symbolic of moving on (actually I doubt that, it was probably always going to be realeased now). But having made the decision, because the last one was so popular (it was a cracker, let's be honest), they were always going to be staying with a plain white shirt with a variation. Not keen on the little crosses, but the kit as a whole, I think it's okay.

This shirt, like its predecessor, is classy. I hope Umbro keep designing shirts that don't look like the rubbish 95% of club teams wear.

That said, the collar is bizarre and the multicultural idea comes across as a desperate plea from The FA to secure WC2018.

The current kit is only a year and a half old, why has this even been made?

Also, Peter Saville is a great graphic designer, but not a clothes designer, and it shows with the crosses on the shoulders, would look nice on a LP but not on an England shirt, think the Umbro guys have been shopping in Oi Polloi in Manchester too much with their love of this whole tailored bullshit.

And why Wiltshire, Walcott, Johnson, Hart and aload of unknowns, is this some attempt at fooling the public that England have some kind of bright future?

Really !

I got used to the current home kit and quite like it now, but this is just too much for me to like. I miss the days when England kits were modern, not with a big pointless line down the middle and multi coloured flags on the back.

Why keep looking back in time for idea's and designs, look to the future and make a new design that isnt inspired by previous shirts from the 80's.

Whats with the multi coloured "diverse" flags ? It just looks stupid.

I think fans should be given an voice on new Englands kits since we are the one's paying £50.00 for them.

So this time Umbro and Peter Saville can stick their shirt up their arses, cause im not paying for that heap of shite that i could do a better job designing.

I'll stick with my 06/08 Home Shirt and Euro 2004 Away shirt, thank you.

Why have England's kits (and team, for that matter) been so, so, SO uninspiring just lately?

For this shameless cash-in, those "Three Lions" should be changed to "Three Blooded Tampons" to reflect one of England's worst periods. Maybe then I'd buy one for the irony!

The blue shorts looks great with the blue Umbro logo and the blue in the England crest, and the little crosses across the back and shoulders are a subtle but beautiful accent. I like the unique elongated collar too. Fantastic work from Umbro.

Who'd have thought 20 years after he designed the sleeve for englandneworder World In Motion Peter Saville would be designing the new England shirt. Well done Umbro fresh, vibrant and still with a little bit of the heritage element.

The only concern is this shirt only going to be worn for the qualifiers and a new shirt out for 2012 ?.

In all likelihood it was supposed to be 11-13 - England have been in a settled pattern for some time now of new home kit in spring of an odd-numbered year and new away in spring of even-numbered - but the FA seemingly want to distance themselves from the unsatisfactory World Cup and have rushed it out. You'll notice there was no big build-up to this release, which is extremely unusual for an England shirt...

Will everyone stop sugar coating it. This kit is a f*cking abomination. Silly silly multi coloured crosses that in no way represent our country, ridiculous collar and long rectangular chest piece that wouldn't look out of place in the 1890's. It's like this tool has taken everything that was great about the last home shirt and travelled into a Bizarro world with it and brought back the result. We should be proud to be English, not cater for every Tom, Dick and Mohammed by representing multi culturalism on our football shirt!! Would never happen to Brazil, Germany, France or any other country come to think of it. PC gone mad. Yet again. Re-design it. INstead of having these little childish crosses, have one big, f*ck off red cross across the shoulders, with the word PRIDE running through the horizontal red line in white.

Q. : What was the thinking behind the variety of colours?

Peter Saville : "It represents England today...a more diverse place than ever before..."

Translation : "I wanted to spread some pixie dust on the shirt and if I have to invent some marketing bullsh:t in order to convince an incompetent and out of touch F.A., then so be it!"

It's fine to play around with different colours of the St. George's cross in fashion but it's pointless and feckless to implement it on an England shirt.

Recently, Umbro made another gaff by introducing a new crest - featuring a dragon - on the Norway shirt, replacing the Norwegian flag. Norwegians are very proud of their flag and many fans vehemently protested against the new crest. Umbro were forced to remove the new crest and bring back the Norwegian flag : Norway 1 Umbro 0.

Umbro clearly hasn't learned its lesson.

The England national team colours are based on the colours of the FA, not the national flag. We're not unique in wearing colours that are not representitive of our flag, either - look at Germany, Japan, Australia, Italy, Holland, Uruguay, etc.

Some on here have been questioning why the new kit is released now instead of the spring. The answer to that is, the contract with Umbro has just been renewed, meaning the last kit was part of the old deal. As for the kit itself, it looked okay on TV. The multicoloured crosses are a bit weird though ;-)

Royal blue is not part of England's national colours. Stick with navy shorts (tradition) or make them red (national colours). Red, white and blue is British not ENGLISH! And that band can stop playing Rule Britannia too! And leave the Cross of St. George alone! It's red on white! The new kit is pathetic. It's supposed to be a a football shirt, not some namby pamby fashion accessory. Bunch of pansies. Can you imagine the England rugby union team wearing something like that? PC nonsense.

Look. we all know Umbro aren't everyone's cuppa tea. Personally I like it, as its plain, simple and understated with a modern twist with the addition of the coloured crosses. Think the Goalie's shirt looks sophisticated, especially with purple/red lines running down aesthetic body elements of the shirt. Compared to Adidas & Puma's recent kits, I'd say Umbro are on the up after the Nike takeover in 08'

i had to have a reeeeaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllll hard look at the tv last night to see if they were indeed wearing a new kit?!?! it looks IDENTICAL to last one (to me who is'nt english and dosnt support england anyway) minus tthe collar but i wondered if sum player had simply tucked the collar in? now its clear it is new.

when was the last kit released??? was it not just at the start of the year??? i think its a rip off bringing out another kit so soon for any national team, they should be ashamed

Don't think the rubbish kit is down to umbro. They're only interested in profits. It's down to some pc graphic designer who's used to designing album covers. He won't be wearing it so it's just part of his cv. Plain white shirt, plain red as second. If you actually watch football from the stands you can only see basic colours, not pointless frills. Sparkly crosses? Jeez! God knows what Sir Alf and Bobby Moore would have made of all this!

I can live with the royal blue shorts, even though it made us look like Italy away and I don't mind the shirt. The timing of it is appalling. I still think of the other one as new and the red one has only just come out.

However, what bugged me the most was the blue names and numbers on the reverse of the shirt. They should have been red if they really wanted to nod to history ans heritage. This is the most un-England colour scheme since the 96 kit that had the sort of aqua green trim on it.

Shocking! Thought this was supposed to be an England shirt. Instead we get The United Nations FC, 9 months earlier than we thought we had, to fork out another 40/50 quid for the top half of a pair of Long-John's sprinkled in fairy dust! Can't wait to see Germany playing in multi-coloured pyjamas & Argentina in green Y-fronts at the next World Cup.

This kit will soon be very 'last season'. The new one is due to unveiled next month at London Fashion Week. In the spirit of inclusivity Pringle of Scotland have been given the brief and are currently working on a complete new look. Inside sources have revealed it's likely to be a pink, off the shoulder number with three doves to replace the outdated, nationalistic lions.

This is a completely pointless kit!
The all white kit was a perfectly good design which could have lasted another six months at least and now we have this tosh?

Shirt looks like underwear, the shorts/socks are the wrong colour and as for the hundreds and thousands on the shoulder - seriously what the feck?

England wear blue shorts so as to incorporate all three colours of the Union Flag. Scotland do likewise. In a sense, England are wearing blue shorts because of Scotland, and Scotland wear red socks because of England

Er...no they don't! The White, Blue and Red of England kits actually represent the colours of the badge of the Football Association NOT the Union Flag|!!!

WTF is goin on with the multi coloured St George crosses? the flag cant be changed, so if u are gunna ruin a shirt by placing lots of random flags on a shirt, atleast keep them all red n white.......

The annoying thing is, the desinger will recieve a small fortune for this design, and all he has done is strip it down to aplain shirt n added miniature flags on the back?

EPIC FAIL !!!!

Well it won't make the team perform any worse, so it's just another white shirt, nothing special with 'hundreds and thousands' that look like 'multicultural' dandruff. Something I can buy to wipe my ar5e with when they go on sale in sports direct for a £10 next week.

Funny that when someone puts this shirt on they instantly look like trouble... :-*
