Republic of Ireland 2011/12 Umbro Home Shirt

This is the new Republic of Ireland men's national team shirt for the period of between 2011 and 2012 manufactured by Umbro.

The new kit sees a striped green shirt with gold pinstripes running down it as well as a treadmark pattern, the collar changes from a white v-neck style to a folded design.

Umbro: "The new home kit will replace the current “tailored by Umbro” classic which was worn 12 times since it’s unveiling in February 2010. We know that the current kit has been extremely popular but we feel we have something even better for 2011/12 and were confident that this new home kit will be seeing some action in Poland and Ukraine next summer."

The new kit is due to get it's first airing in a friendly game versus Croatia in Dublin on August 10th

its pretty obvious whats wrong with it...but apart from that nice shirt!

Nice shirt but the sponsor does ruin it abit but it will be ok for the player shedding the number 3 shirt haha ;)

They're not allowed to have it on the shirts during matches, but Ireland kits have had sponsors on for years. Remember Dougal from Father Ted wearing an Ireland shirt with "Opel" on it? That was around 1996.

Well, the 2010 shirt was always going to be a hard act to follow. With a great colour combo (nice shade of green, with white cuffs and collar, and a bit of gold), great materials and a high quality product, It could have graced the world cup.

This is a step backwards. For a start, its no longer a bespoke shirt for the republic (same design as hearts, and I know elements of the old shirt were used in shirts for South American teams, but the design was unique for Eire) and the green is not as nice. It still looks good, but Eire should have kept the 2010 shirt, which was a great kit, and released the new one in February 2010 at the earliest.

I remember they did the same thing in 2001, replacing a great shirt with an inferior one midway though the qualifiers.

I really like this a lot, but the last home and away shirts were better IMO. It's still pretty nice, aside from the obvious sponsor. I wish the sponsor's logo was actually the number style and not the sponsor.

is it me or is Ireland keep changing its kit?

Yeah...I noticed too...like every two years. WEIRD! Any other teams do this? I can't think of any.
:o

Sarcasm FC, have they changed theirs?

Just googled it, and you're absolutely spot on! Same designers too, so self-plagiarism going on in Umbro.

Just to reiterate; the Northern Ireland shirt from 1992-1994 is almost identical to this. Umbro have run out of ideas (and class, evidently)...

Because here in Ireland there is great demand for ireland shirts so the more shirts they release the more money the FAI earn which is needed for supporting youth development etc and if you havent noticed we're not exactly rolling in money at the moment

Quoting Suarez7:
Ireland are just as good as any other team in their qualification group and have a great manager.

What they don't have is the goodwill of UEFA; expect to see Platini screw them again if they're in a position to qualify.

Can't wait to wear this around the streets of Glasgow!

My great-great-great-great-great grandfather once drank a pint of Guinness in an Irish theme pub so I'm as Irish as they come.

At least when Celtic supporters turn their back on the birthplace of their national team, they don't run into the arms of its bitterest rivals like the Rangers supporters.

Truth hurts eh?

Awful, sectarian clubs supported by awful, sectarian people. The world would be a better place if both clubs shrivelled up and died.

Boo-Hoo - Green or Blue Hun (I'm guessing you are a Green Hun from the sanctimonious and delusional tone) = both

luckily when players wear it the sponsor is removed, however the font tha has been used for the name and number recently has been gastly, hopefully umbro will supply a new design for that as well :) but a really good shirt, anyway, it could have any sponsor in the world and it would still be better than the new england gk away shirt ;)

They obviously don't wear the 3 sponsor in the matches, so without it this actually isn't that bad a kit. Ireland's kits in the past few years have been pretty nice, hoping for something similiar for Northern Ireland nex time around as the away kit is decent
