aston villa 11/12 nike home football shirt

We showed you this shirt back in may, but today Villa stars took to the catwalk as the brand new home kit - featuring the logo of new principal partner Genting - was unveiled.

And the thousands of fans in attendance at Star City were wowed by a surprise appearance from new signing Shay Given who was officially presented as a Villa player at the launch event.

Club record signing Darren Bent, winger Marc Albrighton and strikers Gabby Agbonlahor and Nathan Delfouneso were the four outfield players parading the new kit.

Unfortunately the claret and blues aces made an unsuccessful attempt at trying to bag £100,000 for charities Acorns and St Basil's - although a sizeable donation was made by Genting.

Fans flocked to the huge leisure and entertainment complex to see their heroes model the latest claret and blue classic.

Bent, Albrighton, Agbonlahor and Delfouneso received rapturous cheers as they stepped out on to the stage wearing the new Nike home shirt which features a chequed design.

But the biggest ovation of all was saved for star signing Given as he appeared in the new blue and red goalkeeper's jersey.

The new home kit will be available to buy from 9am on Saturday at Villa Village and online.

Thanks to Mark

Not bad. Considering the Nike crap we've seen this year, I'd say this is among the better better designs.

Agreed, except for the goalie kit, which is putrid.

Why do they always wear running shoes in the pictures? Nike couldn't have found some football flats for them to wear? Just looks dorky in trainers.

Maybe because wearing football boots in an entertainment complex would be dangerous. And the players' mums would shout at them for chipping the floor with their studs.

Read my comment again. I said "football flats," not not boots. There are football shoes out there that do not have studs. They could have worn turf shoes or indoor shoes. It would have looked normal. Instead, they always wear trainers. Nerdy.

All things considered, not bad. I did prefer the white socks on the leaked kits, though.

the shirt is the nicest shirt out of any I've seen for next season of any team in the world, stunning, I'm not too keen on the black socks though, its like their trying to rip off Manchester United with three different colour segments of kits(red shirt, white shorts and black socks.or as in their case claret shirt, white shorts and black socks

Villa wore black socks in 1877, a full year before Newton Heath even came into existence. But yeah, it's a rip-off. Football existed before Sky TV, yunno?

On the black socks, Villa played a huge chunk of it's early years in them. Traditionalists should be foaming at the mouth Plus it makes a nice change from the usual sky blue or claret.

As a Villa fan, I'm loving it! Top kit!

A lot of clubs played a huge chunk of their early years in black socks. It's Man United's quirk to retain them.

I am not saying this is my favourite Villa shirt we have had, however I would prefer slight tweaking from old nice simple kits rather than making a ridiculous design for the sake of it.

Not the best but could be much worse

Have to get used to the black socks...i would have prefered white ones with claret/blue trim. but black is at least something different/speacial.
otherwise nice and smart shirt design!

Shouldnt the socks be sky blue - white for burnley & West Ham?

That's the one, pal. You'll ding dang do for me. A lot of teams piss about with their socks. Here are my thoughts on what colour socks these teams should be wearing

Villa - sky blue
Derby - white
Arsenal - red
Spurs - white
Everton - blue
West Ham - claret for me
Burnley - white
Man City - navy blue
Middlesbrough - who cares?

I love the response 'its the same kit as always....' erm it's the Villa colours, it IS claret and blue, at least they've tried to do something a bit different with the checks.

I mean, think back to the Diadora kits, they couldn't even master claret!!!

It would be nice to see a move to the Nike sister company Umbro next season though, although they'll probably not.

But it would be ace to see a shirt based on the template of the Man City shirt in the spirit of the 1985 shirt.....I happen to like it, but if they did take over, more likely to be, blue collar and sleeves, claret front and back. Yay.

FSC, this showing us the same kits is a bit annoying now

you've done this with a few teams

first we get the leaked kits

then we get the 'official' kits with no sponsor

then we get the kits with the sponsor

then we get the official launch pictures

we know what the new villa kit looks like already, same with Man Utd, Barca, Arsenal, Inter, Juve, Real Madrid......

I don't think there's any real thought going into these Villa efforts. The shirt looks like one from a few years back. The squares look naff. The socks look like a last minute attempt to insert something different into the look. The whole is very unsatisfactory. Villa used to have a knack of turning their colours into different formats; however, they were also one of the first clubs to change every year. Lately they seem out of ideas.
