Tailored by Umbro for the forthcoming 2011/12 season, the new Athletic Club home shirt has been revealed as the team celebrate their 100th anniversary.

Inspired by the unique values and history of the Basque team, the shirt features Athletic Club’s red and white stripes in a distinct Herringbone print inspired by traditional tailoring. With a special centenary authenticator on the hem, the shirt also features a special collar designed specificially with performance in mind, with a rib insert for extra comfort.

Very classy - just like pretty much all the Umbro kits this year.

I might need some time to get used to the collar on the red an white one; definitely has the chance to be brilliant though!

"chance to be brilliant"

sorry i laughed at that quote lad, laughed quite hard, sounds like somethign simon cowell would say about a budding young singer, not a football shirt LMAO

whenever you guys whine that a european clubs jersey looks like a english club you fail to realize thats exactly why. athletic club bilbao was founded by englishmen (thats why their name is english) and they took southampton/sunderland jerseys with them to bilbao! they actually first took blackburn jerseys. thats why they sometimes rock the blue and white jersey. that being said, beautiful! the collar is a little weird but i can get used to it!

Athletic wear the famous Red/White shirt thanks to Wearside dockers who worked in the Bilbao docks. They took the beautiful game to Basque region.

Im loving what Umbro have been doing, but that style collar on the home shirt is awful! looks like its been taken from the Umbro dark days 2002-2008!

GK strip looks brilliant however.

Athletic's centenary was in 1998 (the club was founded in 1898).

In Primera División, actually At. Madrid, Ath. Bilbao, Sporting Gijón, Almería and Granada (horizontal stripes). 25% of teams

Almería is in second division now, so only 20%, unless you count Rayo Vallecano as "striped".

No, there is a slight different, the "zigzags" start down in A Bilbao's and the shirt above has the strips start up.

Its nice idea, having that chevron-ish design, and it works for the ireland kit, but when you see the bilbao kit from a distance, it just makes it look like the stripes are a diffferent shade of red to the rest of the kit...

And actually, what are they on about centenary year??

It's not the 100th anniversary kit. The club was founded in 1898. In the beggining days, they played with Blackburn Rovers shirt. After few years, they changed the Blackburn shirts and started to play with Southampton shirts.
That's the reason the first kit is like Southamptom shirt.

Southampton and Sunderland (and Portsmouth) found Bilbao but they didn't have any strips hence the blue and white.

@Hup AJAX Hup! the leaf on the shoulder is the logo of the second sponsor, the tourist board or administration of Bizkaia, the place the club is from

What do some of you mean "it should have been the southampton kit?

It IS the Southampton kit FFS!

(other than swapping white sleeves with red trim, gold umbro logo, badge & sponsor if you want to be really pedantic)

It is the Sunderland strip, it was Sunderland Dockers that went over first, read Athletico History.
