Burnley FC 11/12 Puma Home Kit

This is the new Burnley home kit for the 2011/12 English Championship season manufactured by Puma.

The Puma brand again adorns the breast of the home shirt, which changes significantly from the current design.

The 'Puma King' shirt, featuring cleaner branding from club sponsor Fun88.com, has a blue V-neck and collar and carries two eye-catching white stripes on both shoulders.

The new replica home shirt will be accompanied by white shorts and socks, both with claret trim.

This full kit will go on sale from the Clarets Store on Saturday, May 7.

these shoulder stripes are very needless - would be better without them...

From Burnley site ... Quote:
Footnote: Puma's two stripes are inspired by a famous story involving Johan Cruyff, in which during the 1974 World Cup Final, he removed the third stripe from his supplied Netherlands shirt, out of respect and loyalty to his boot sponsor. Cruyff refused to be associated with Puma's major competitor and as his country's captain, talisman and one of the most gifted and inspirational footballers of all time, was relatively confident he wouldn't be dropped by the team for his actions! This single show of loyalty is something Puma believe all Burnley fans can relate to, and as such, the two stripes embody and exemplify something far more than a simple design feature.
aesthetically though they are quite pointless

Adidas and Puma are two brothers from Germany. Didn't they originally form Adidas and then had an argument and Puma was formed by their split. so the two stipe thing could be seen as a dig at Adidas.

Not sure i like the stipes, but they do look better on the close up images.

Yeah - Adolph and Rudolph Dassler ...the story is quite a soap opera. Google them for more info.

Strange how Cruyff's intentional wardrobe malfunction nearly 40 years ago is being quoted as inspiration for a Burnley kit in 2011- tenuous a best I think

This is like the improved version of the new Aston Villa FC kit lol.

How come so many English clubs have exact the same color patterns?

Burnley FC
Westham United FC
Aston Villa FC

Claret and blue were very popular in the late 1800's and C. Palace used that colour scheme too

I am now worried that this kit will be the exact same for Hibernian's upcoming season. I am not sure about the 2 stripes, part of me likes them, other part does not.

It is sad to see Puma using the one design again, maybe we will be surprised when they release kits for the larger teams.

Not sure about West Ham, but Burnley's kit is actually based on Villa's. Villa were the top English club at the time (1910-ish) and Burnley hoped to replicate their success with the same kit.

+1 # 2011-05-05 14:43
i think west ham's first claret and blue kit was actually villa's. villa were one of the best clubs at the time and the players thought they were better than everyone. a player from west ham had a wager with a player from villa about who was the fastest. the villa player lost and couldnt afford to pay the wager, so handed over the villa kits as an alternative. something like that anyway.

Not a fan of the collar. It is too big. Maybe it's a 70's revival thing Puma are trying to bring about, whereby just about every club wore shirts with huge, floppy collars at one point. The decade that style forgot!

The Dassler Brothers actually were Partners in the Sportswear Company "Dassler"....After They fell out, Adolf, better knownas "Adi" , formed Adidas (As in "Adi Dassler"....You see wot He did, there??!!....)....& Rudolf formed Puma....Thus becoming major competitors....

Just so You know!!....

For the record, I agree, too strips from the same Puma Template ....Tho My beloved Newcastle United's new kit is very much an individual design....Most of My fellow Geordies seem to hate it....But I Love it!!....I'm more corncerned about Who's actually gonna be wearin it next Season, tho....

Lots of people don't like this. I think it's great. The two stripes is a nice addition. You need something a little bit distinctive sometimes, or you end up like Villa, having a different kit churned out each year, but with hardly any difference from the previous one.

and those sleeves are well baggy!
