dc united adidas 2011 third kit

DC United revealed a new 2011 third kit made by Adidas at the Washington Auto Show, which will be available here.

The full kit was unveiled on Saturday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m. on the L Street Bridge of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.  The presentation, featuring Branko Boskovic, Andy Najar, Chris Pontius, Santino Quaranta, Clyde Simms and Josh Wolff, anchors D.C. United Day at the Washington Auto Show™, presented by Volkswagen.

A giant 15x15 foot replica third jersey will hang in the main lobby of the Washington Convention Center for the remainder of the Washington Auto Show (Jan. 30-Feb. 6).

“We’re very excited about the new look that this alternate jersey will provide our team,” said D.C United Executive Vice President Stephen Zack.  “The fact that the Volkswagen logo is so prominent on the front of our shirt is not lost on us - they are a wonderful company and are integrated into everything we do.  We’re thrilled to launch the third kit with them at the Washington Auto Show.”

“Volkswagen is excited to have D.C. United here with us at the Washington Auto Show to showcase our continued partnership,” said Ben Freidson, Sports Strategy Manager, Volkswagen of America, Inc.  “It’s important for us to be a part of this high-profile event with a team that is so integrated into the community.  We’re looking forward to an exciting season together. ”

No, there shouldn't be. The numbers should be white though, it'll be hell for commentators.

I agree. I love the red, but it makes the black look worse.
Otherwise, it's a great third shirt, but it can never replace DCU's perfect current black home kit.

Meh, nothing too offensive. Kind of looks like a Milan training top that might have been used a few years ago.

On the neck of the kit: TRADITION. It's serious?! The team was founded in 1995.

United is one of the Original MLS clubs, the most decorated of the MLS clubs and has one of the most diehard supporters groups in the league. Sure it's only been 15 years but you can't fault the club for not existing without a league. The only way the MLS will be able to grow is if people stop brushing it aside and start supporting it not just in the United States but across the globe. Football has more room to grow in the US than anywhere in the world.

You probably support Chelsea, a team who has less of a history in over 100 years than DC United, who have a decent history in only 15 years of existance.

You can censored right off.

Just saying, the MLS aside, the existing professional club in Canada/USA that is the oldest and most successful would be Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club. 37 years and counting.

Props to DCU though, they've been very successful since they and MLS started.

"Tradition" is relative. They have won 4 MLS championships, more than any other MLS team. Even if you disregard that, surely you would agree that "Tradition" is an ideal worthy of their aspiration.

Tremendous design thought actually...i like it, its not too generic. Kind off reminds me of Benfica's 08/09 kit a tiny bit.

I like the flag on the arm. I know it's been around a while but still. In England it is racist to put flags on shirts.

@ Deco2k LA GALAXY: 2000 CONCACAF Champions' Cup Winners.

Much respect to DC United, but this kit is rubbish. Why do MLS clubs need 3rds? Away kits rarely see the pitch as is.

It would have looked better with a different shade of red. This red has too much orange in it.

They look great, and this is the only time this template works , BUT this is a fact: if the jersey is dark, the number/name should be light; if the jersey is light, then the number/name should be dark. The number/name should be white on this since the jersey since it is a darker red and surrounded by black. OTHERWISE, great!
