England 2011/12 Umbro Away and Goalkeeper Shirts

These are the new 2011 - 2012 away and goalkeeper shirts for the England National Team manufactured by Umbro, which will be available here.

Worn with pride by the England football team, the new England away shirt exemplifies Umbro’s understanding of the team’s history with a willingness to embrace modern fabric technology.

In a deep blue colour, the England shirt features a smart collar in a lighter blue inspired by traditional shirts, with a comfortable, one-button fastener.

The main body of the football shirt is crafted from an innovative polyester/cotton moisture management fabric to keep players cool on the pitch, while the arms are built from a flexible material to aid movement. Another innovative feature is the 360º pivot armhole, which offers total movement without any restrictions. The England crest and Umbro logo are embroidered on the chest.

Couple of points with the goalie kit;

A) Its different. You have to give umbro credit for that even if it's
beyond diabolical.
B) It's retro. Yup.
C) It'll certainly stand out.
D) Hmmm...

Umbro please discontinue your kit sponsorship deal with ENGLAND. You guys suck, you can't even make a good kit for one of most well known country. I suggest you quit. I was a huge ENGLAND kit fan, now all I see is lazy polo shirts. I hope someone from UMBRO reads this because I am piss off at them. Even unpopular brands make better kits then you. GEEEE.......What happen to all that research, rule, cut this and cut that and how the body moves? No wonder ENGLAND been loosing because of your stupid ugly polo shirts....

You can't blame the teams performance[or lack of it]on the kit but i totally agree with what else you said, the new umbro approach to kit design is piss poor releasing bland shirts every 12 months, the latest home one is only just worse than the last one and as for the new away one ..BAG OF SHITE!

that goalkeepers kit is a complete piss take. if you really want the world to believe england have the potential to win a international european trophy, you cant have them laughing at you because umbro have made a complete embarrasment of a kit.
umbro need to start to find the line between original and ridiculous.

Who's even pretending England can win a major trophy?
A semi-final place would be over-achieving.
England's supporters need to lower their expectations and have a bit more patience with the players.
This being said, the goalkeeper's kit is vomit-inducing.

The away shirt is quite nice. I like the star being nearly invisible. If only our delusions of grandeur became as less obvious.

Must be really proud of your star. That proud that it doesn't really stand out. The only reason you know it's there is if you are told it's there.

The away looks like a spare design for a training top they had kicking around, and the goalkeeper shirt looks like it was designed by a Scotland fan.

The current home set are bad, with the multicoloured crosses and pink trim on the goalie shirt, but these are a joke.

If they wanted a "crazy" goalie shirt, they should've gone back to the red Euro 96 one with Refresher sweet packet socks

Ahhh back to the good old days where designers see the goalie kit as an excuse to go a bit mental. Remember the yellow and red gk kits David Seaman wore at and around Euro 96? Hurl.

As a previous poster said though, it might look good on Joe Hart or whoever on the pitch. Prob not on some fat bloke in Asda though........

And so it begins. It was the same reaction with the Home kit two years ago, everyone saying it was Just a polo shirt, but then the tune changed, and that shirt was a game changer, it was classy and stylish, and it looked great. Soon loads of teams sported similarly cut kits.

The away too, everyone was complaining about the contrasting cuffs, now its a design feature that now looks really good.

The current home is pretty class, its a really high quality outfit, and in a comparison of the materials and the finish of the shirt, nothing comes close.

This one, well its not red, and I do belive it should be, but it looks understated and classy, like a lot of umbro products, and the quality will be pretty high.

My main gripe is the launch. This should have been kept on hold untill feb next year at the earliest, and the current home should have been launched this year. Most kits should have a two year lifespan, and lauching one every year is a bad idea for the reasons that it pressurizes manfacturers to come up with new ideas every season, when thats a hard thing to do a lot of the time, and often, shirts are "growers", the last England kit is. By the time a shirt is popular sometimes, its replaced by an inferior product.

I like this kit. But Id like it a lot more if it was in red

Where is the blue in Italy's flag? Or white in Germany? Green in Northern Ireland? It's good that away kits should be in different colours - sky blue or royal blue would also have been good.
Why stop there - yellow shirt, blue shorts and white socks?

Not that it matters - I refuse to buy England shirts now, since they broke the "one kit every 2 years" tradition.

Better than that queer home shirt we've been lumbered with, but it's not red, so it's just not right, and as Leeds fan I wouldn't usually champion a red shirt, but I like the one we've got/had, and we should always have a red away shirt. It looks like some kind of umbro England leisurewear polo shirt.
The keeper kit is just off the scale and by far the worst think I've ever seen. It will suit the women's team, and will make Joe Hart look even more effeminate than he already does.

England? No red on the home or away kits? Is Umbro INSANE? Don't get me wrong, this shit doesn't look that bad, but England wears white and red, and that's it. What, like Brazil is going to march out in teal instead of yellow because it's trendy? Forget that. This is a joke. As for the goalkeeper shirt, I suppose it pays tribute to the horribleness that was the Euro 96 goalkeeper shirts. All of this is a farce. Thank goodness it is a one year write-off of a shirt, because no one is buying this until it is red.

''The main body of the football shirt is crafted from an innovative polyester/cotton moisture management fabric to keep players cool on the pitch, while the arms are built from a flexible material to aid movement. Another innovative feature is the 360º pivot armhole, which offers total movement without any restrictions. The England crest and Umbro logo are embroidered on the chest.''

just like the previous red shirt then....

I love the players shirt, looks classy and its nice to have a bit of a change from the usual red. I actually like the desing idea of the goalie top with the crosses but the colour scheme is hidious. If the tones of the colour used were a lot subtler and closer then the design might work a bit better.

Whilst it's an ok shirt (albeit a bit polo esque) it goes against the grain of the traditional red, which many have come to associate with the England away. If we were to switch to blue I would much have preferred the sky blue we have seen on 3rd kits in the past. As for the goalie shirt, who on earth would want to buy that?

The away kit isn't too bad when you take the light blue shorts/dark blue socks into account. Still, I would have preferred a red away kit, or at least flip the colours on this away shirt so that the light blue was the dominant colour.

As for the GK shirt, it`s quite hideous. But maybe what could have saved it is if the cross pattern had the same size throughout the shirt, and if it was running down the entirety of the sleeves.

No you dont. We perform well against the so called "big teams" (prob top 20 rankings) and struggle against teams we should be beating, ie Liechenstein, Macedonia, etc. England beat these teams then choke against the bigger nations when it matters, and yet still somehow move up to 4th in the world.

The away shirt is a nice, understated shirt. Really don't see the point of it though, since the English already have wonderful red and white shirts. It's like giving Brazil a white alternate kit; it just doesn't make sense when their regular shirts are as iconic as they are.

As far as the goalie shirt goes, it's certainly very retro. And while the past can certainly be nice to revisit on some occasions, there are times when an ugly design remains ugly even with the passage of time. That said, there are worse examples of retro shirts they could have pulled out of the mothballs. The 1996 and 1993 keeper shirts were both considerably more awful, even the '88 shirt was worse. Just have to keep a bit of prospective here.

It wouldn't surprise me if the GK shirt was designed by the same bloke who designed the home kit with the multicoloured crosses on it. Mind you it ain't as bad as the first choice GK shirt, which is shocking and looks like an old woman's pullover with the crosses and magenta stitching on it.

So that, all in all, along with the outfield players' kits...... it's another awful effort for an awful team (better than Brazil? sorry, but no).

Umbro kit designers! Save time ands effort on designing kits for the England national football team by simply giving them left-over training-shirts and saying "This'll do for the away shirt!" You'll be laughing all the way to the bank. The goalie shirt would look better if it were different shades of yellow instead of teal, in my opinion.

Quoting CANA:
thats a good point actually... why do they hide the star? its almost as if we dont want the other countries to know we have won a world cup...

after more than 40 years it starts to fade away......

First game in the new away shirt, first defeat! All this in Germany, of course. Good Night, Hayes!

I'm pretty sure Germany wouldn't bring out a Netherlands-style orange away shirt, and Argentina wouldn't bring out a Brazil-style yellow away shirt.

But the FA's incompetent marketing department have put England in Scotland-style navy blue.

the away shirt is slowly growing on me. england have played in blue in the past, but i think the away shirt should be red even if just to play tribute to the world cup winning side of 1966.

the goalkeepers shirt looks like the count came up with it on sesame street. it's horrible.

all in all it's a weak performance from umbro. i usually love their shirts and i like the stylish retro look they've had lately. at least you could wear them in public, but if you leave the house in the keepers top you'll probably have your head kicked in by a bunch of chavs...

What on earth has umbro become? They used to make the best kits but what on earth has 'tailore'd got to do with football? I'm sick of retro and dodgy fabrics. Get rid of umbro, and bring back our red shirt.

Keeper's kit is a 90's throwback for sure. No red kit? Controversial...

the away shirt is brilliant! my favourite england shirt in a long time! goalkeeper shirt is a bit odd but i like goalkeeper kits being loud, i never buy them anyway and i think it makes sense for the goalkeeper shirts to be quite loud and in your face.

The shirt is wonderful. Is the man the new goalkeeper of the English team (every thing is possible with British goalkeepers)? Maybe with such gloves he will be better than the previous British goalkeepers

To be honest, if the keeper's shirt was shades of red or white instead of spring green it would've looked much better.

Only a keeper kit like that could steal the criticism from such an underwhelming away shirt. Hideous as it might be, at least it's reminiscent of the early 90s. I prefer it to the away shirt. i'd take hideous early 90s over bland and dull.

Aww....looks like Nike (which owns Umbro) sent some new designers to Umbro and decided to mould England in the style of Arsenal (navy and sky blue).
