France Away 2011/2012 Nike

This is the new French national team away kit manufactuered by Nike, which will be available here.

PARIS March 7th: Nike today unveils the new national team away kit for the French Football Federation, celebrating the new era in French Football.

Nike's partnership with the French Football Federation was launched in Paris in January this year, and is encapsulated by an overall campaign titled 'Vive Le Football Libre'. The striking new design of the away kit captures the spirit of the French team whilst bringing superior performance innovation and unparalleled elegance on pitch.

The new away jersey takes strong visual cues from the 'marinière', a piece of French history since the last century, and now a timeless French style icon. The marinière first appeared as the uniform of sailors in the French navy in the 19th century and was first seen in civilian wardrobes in the early 20th century. Soon, it would become a symbol of French culture, adopted by free-spirited individuals in France and beyond.

The jersey has a tailored fit that allows freedom of movement on pitch. The lightweight fabric features Nike Dri-FIT technology and engineered ventilation systems to help keep players cool, coupled with ergonomic cut and soft cotton feel for player comfort.

The kit also embraces Nike's Considered Design approach and - along with the home kit launched earlier this year - is Nike's most environmentally sustainable kit to date, with shirt and shorts made from microfiber polyester that is entirely derived from recycled plastic bottles. For the shirt, this material is combined with organic cotton (96% recycled polyester, 4% organic cotton).

The kit is seen for the first time in photography shot by a true icon of the fashion and photography world, Karl Lagerfeld. The photo, which captures the revolutionary elegance of the away kit, features Alou Diarra, one of the faces of the new era of the French team.

It has a certain "f*** you, we're french"-quality.

It's designed to disrupt the umpire's field of vision so as not uncover the numerous French handballs.

Come off it mate, it's worth pointing out that the French are considered to be the same race as the english (caucasian), nigerian and Pakistani are not, here is where the distinction lies. At worst it was xenophobic, and tbh it wasn't even that.

That's not banter though is it, it's your sheer f***ing racist English ignorance. Put the UK in France's position with a Nazi war machine rumbling across open ground and I'm sure we would have surrendered too. At least they have some pride. Idiot.

You what? Mate, wind it in!! You need to check your history... and not the American verison where you're all made out to be gung-ho heroes!! We all did our bit... and you certainly did not 'save our asses' you censored. You waited and waited to enter the war, like you normally do, until the ideal opportunity to swan in and claim the glory... like you normally do.

Back to the kit... I think it's bloody awful. I actually liked the home kit and thought a simple reverse of that would have been great... this is cringeworthy.

This kit looks really nice it is very unique. I love all the kits Nike is doing so far with France and Brazil I can't wait what they have in store for USA. Not trashing Adidas I know France and Adidas has history and made some iconic kits but lately Adidas had been failing a bit with their mass produced dull design Nike was definitely a upgrade. I'm not French but I.thing what I like the most is that they were able to bring out subtle yet significant things from French culture and applying it to their design without over killing it. Id be very proud to wear this if I was French

The crest itself looks very good actually. If you read what I said, I was saying that if not for the crest on the jersey that this would look like any Nike t-shirt. Nothing special. Look at some of the J-Leagues jerseys or jerseys from some of the lower teams or divisions. Some of the companies are actually putting some effort in them. Not so for so many Nike jersey's.

Nike explained the shirt:
That's indeed a reference to "marinières", the traditional striped sweater worn by French and Breton sailors in the old times.

It's a tongue-in-cheek also, because most of the current French team has an immigrant background and does not necessarily relate to that popular lore.
However, they wear the colours of a nation they embrace, because the French republic is about equality and ideals rather than origins.

I don't like the photos but I'm sure the shirts will look amazing in real life.
I wouldn't have thought I'd say that one day, but Nike made a very nice and clever shirt there.

Wait for a couple months and you'll all love it!

In case they cant find the words: "The new away jersey takes strong visual cues from the 'marinière', a piece of French history since the last century, and now a timeless French style icon. The marinière first appeared as the uniform of sailors in the French navy in the 19th century and was first seen in civilian wardrobes in the early 20th century. Soon, it would become a symbol of French culture, adopted by free-spirited individuals in France and beyond."

Entendez-vous, dans le campagnes,

I wasn't expecting that.... Without doubt the worst football strip that i have ever ever seen BAR NONE. And for an international team??? I wouldn't even wear it on a yacht or boat.....if I had one!!
'Marinière?'....This nonsensical novelty historical referencing that is now being incorporated into the design football strips is just a new marketing ploy - no more and no less. If it has to be done it should be done on the most important part of the shirt....the CREST!!! I have no problems with teams give a bow or a nod to original shirts but this is a joke. I hear umbro are now following suit by making white wooly jumpers and tweed shorts for Ireland's (our!) away strip. The ladies team will be wearing shawls!!

Nothing to do with our last encounter I assure you. Everyone here is entitled to an opinion my friend. I have an unbiased opinion in this case and I don't need any quack to help me get over our defeat to France. That is not in the Irish mentality. That's just sport, and a piece of history now. We may not have a successful international history in football, but we are an honest side and our fans are welcome anywhere.
