ireland 10-12 umbro away kit

Today Monday 6th September, 2010 UMBRO are delighted to officially unveil the New Ireland Change Kit. The kit has been given a complete makeover with a darker shade of green or St Patrick's Green, being used as the secondary colour and the new version of the FAI crest trimmed in green and gold. The new tailored design smashes performance and style together .

The new home kit will be available for purchase from early October.

The new design tailored by UMBRO looked at all the elements that are important to the player and fans alike including heritage, identity, performance, effortless function and a tailored fit. The design team wanted to understand the motion of the football player and looked at ergonomic football forms rather than having a garment created on an existing muscular body form. The result is the creation of a football specific form which takes into account the shape of the body when playing football.

Commenting on the new kit Jonathan Courtenay Director Of Football at UMBRO Ireland, said "At UMBRO we pride ourselves on innovative kit design, I believe that this new "Tailored by UMBRO" Ireland change kit has achieved a modern look and feel while maintaining many of the identifiers that make the kit instantly recognisable as Irish. Through an individual fitting session with the Ireland Team last year we were able to create a bespoke smart fit for the kit and identify the specific size for each player. The players loved the kit concept when we showed it to them at a squad session last year and I know from some focus group feedback that the fan reaction is very positive".

Fan's can pre-order their kits from Wednesday 8th September.

are they allowed to have a number as a shirt sponsor? it would be confusing.

and also i am highly against shirt sponsors with national teams

Ireland signs sponsorship deals for replica jerseys... something like that. Basically, when the national team plays, the sponsor isn't on the jersey, they're only on the replica jerseys.

Actually they wore Eircom for some years in all friendlies, did they not? It's a fair question... a number for a sponsor isn't the smartest idea IMHO. BUT I imagine the number might go near the Umbro logo a la England.

How the hell does this look cheap and like they have not thought it through? the only cheap looking thing on the shirt is the Awful 3 logo on the shirt, the rest of this design is fantastic, the gold on the shirt looks classy. Ths will look the business with white or green shorts.

They sell the shirts with a sponsor on them .... but when they play matches they are not allowed to have the sponsor logo

So the FAI can get a little extra revenue from advertising. Ireland have had shirt sponsors for years.

I know that. I have noticed! I am wondering why they are the only one to sell them WITH a sponsor. No other country does that.

Only thing I do not like is the number 3. Other than that it is a beautiful shirt. I also thinke it will be hard for the referee

they don't wear the jersey with a sponsor for matches ... FIFA rules do not allow it. It's only for merchandise

nice jersey, clean and simple. like the yellow added to the side stripe. i can do without the lizard-like, indecipherable number on the front, but cool jersey nonetheless

You can get the shirt without the sponsor on it - I bought the current home one a few months ago without a sponsor on it from the FAI Store in Dublin

Why do the Irish use the English 'Ireland' on the badge and not the Irish 'Éire´

I definitely think they should have Eire on the badge rather than Ireland. With regards to the sponsorship on the shirt it is, as most people have suggested, probably down to money. Bear in mind that not only is Ireland a much smaller country than England, but Hurling, Gaelic Football, Rugby, and Horse Racing are ahead of association football as the main sports in Ireland. The new Aviva stadium which the football and rugby teams will use holds 50,000 people whereas Croke Park, traditionally the stadium of the Gaelic sports, holds over 82,000. As football comes into competition with these sports, the FAI needs to find the extra revenue from somewhere.

UNITED99, I assume by the 'our' comment that your name refers to Waterford United or Monaghan United. How hypocritical would it be of you if it referred to a 'foreign' team from the Manchester area???

As for the kit, like most others have said, very nice in a back-to-basics way, but the sponsorship is annoying.

This shirt has a really good classic style. I especially like the inclusion of gold with green on the logo and stripes and the subtle slim white stripes.
Some people have mentioned that they would prefer the Gaelic word "Eire" instead of "Ireland" on the badge. I don't have a strong view on this matter but would like to point out that "Eire" is placed on the inside of the collar at the back. Maybe it could have been placed on the outside of the collar at the back.
