New York Cosmos 2011 Umbro Home Shirt

Umbro has today announced that it will be the leading kit supplier for the newly reformed New York Cosmos soccer club. As part of the club's rebirth, Umbro has applied its celebrated football-tailoring ethos to a new on-field performance and off-field lifestyle line for The New York Cosmos club.

The white home shirt, with the unique green and yellow collar, will be available in December (£49/$75). It's inspired by the one worn by its star players in 1977, including Pelé, but with the performance benefits of a modern football shirt.

Quite simple ... just fantastic. Great to see the Cosmos return. Now let's see the Chivas USA franchise renamed to the Aztecs.

LA Aztecs would be great, but I'll take any name change for Chivas USA. And if the new Montreal team calls themself the Impact I'm gonna freak out.

I agree with you with the Chivas USA, LA Aztecs sounds alot better then copying a mexican teams name.

USSF, what sport is that though ? American football, baseball ??? How about calling the team after the city it comes from and just the moniker FC used all over the World ?

"At the present moment, the organization’s intention is to maintain its name and global team image."

Yeah, I'd also like a name change as well.

I don't follow US 'soccer', but that would be legendary!

Good effort adding variety to the mostly uninspired Adidas kits.

This is class. Modern yet respects the history.

As a Sounders' fan, I dream that some day we'll have a kit that honors our 35 year history.

everything is wrong with the USA adidas kits, they're just the european clubs templates with more ugly colours

+13 # 2010-09-30 18:57
actually its the other way around... Adidas uses MLS to launch new templates. Nothing wrong with them using Adidas except the fact that MLS is "single entity" basically meaning that everyone in the league is forced to wear Adidas.

ehm thats what i meant

the MLS single entity has nothing to do with it, nike was making MLS kits before, it's just that the MLS has signed a contract for adidas to make the entire leagues kits. the NBA has a the same contract.

They'll most likely play in the US second tier until the MLS announces another expansion. They'll very probably join the MLS in 2012 as its 20th team.
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

+2 # 2010-09-30 18:59
no, they have no plans for the second tier. this shirt will never be worn on the field in a competitive match. they want to go directly to MLS, probably in 2013, and that will mean that they need to cancel the umbro contract because all MLS teams wear adidas.

No, you're wrong. They've already filled out the paper to compete in USSF D-2 in 2011. They're just using that as a stop-gap, however.

Why not let every team decide their own kit supplier?

Umbro used to own the Miami Fusion. they had nice kits for the time.

yea tell that to Real Bristol FC. they've been imaginary for ever

snazzy kits for the americans. shame though their league is a mess. every club look the same you yanks must have eyes to tell them apart. ill be rooting for the cosmos when the appear for real. cheers

no mess any more my friend... MLS has really improved recently. I used to think it was a big fat joke compared to the rest of the world, but you'd be surprised at the quality if you watched a game. Very pacy and physical, if you like the English game you'll like MLS.

eh its alright. it still lacks but i have watched sounders play a match with galaxy. i quite like sounders but we here in the UK dont have the proper channels (or time) to watch a league match so even if i did like it i cant watch it. but ill definatly endure the mediocrity to watch Cosmos play a match. they are my favorite usa club. cheers.

The Rowdies are back... they play in USSF D-2, although technically "rowdies" was dropped from the name but people still call them it

still wear the same kits too

As much as I'd like to see the MLS teams signed to different kit manufacturers, that won't happen until all of the teams are profiting. The league is stable, but they still have to hold up a few of the teams, so they have the first call until that changes. Given time, I'm sure that can be achieved in less than a decade.

Not to seem like the bad guy here, but I have not been impressed with our bid for the World Cup. As much as I'd love to see it in the US, I feel that Qatar or England deserve it more. Some of the host cities we've chosen are just plain awful selections. Outside the thought of a World Cup soccer match in the Cowboys' Stadium and Qwest Field, I'm not excited.

Quatar? Once those fellas there in the Middle East get rid of the extremists that will try to blow up the stadiums, start using it's oil cash to fund tourism instead of terrorism, and above all, field a football team that won't loose to the likes of footballing giants San Marino, Papa New Guinea or Samoa by a combined score of 500-nil (note to middle eastern organizers of international matches between 2 countries that aren't yours: it's DUMB, and you're not helping promote the development of football in your country, so organize some matches that feature YOUR national team, even if they would get beat by England's U12 schoolboys 10-nil.). And have they ever qualified for a World Cup? I think not.

So FIFA should think with their heads and not their pocket books and tell those camel jockeys to censored off until they can actually provide a legitimate, non-financial reason that the FIFA World Cup should be in the middle of a warzone filled by religious nutcases who want to violently impose religious law on the rest of the world.

And above all, who wants to sit in the bleeding desert during the summer? It'll be over 70 degrees, I won't want to pay money to see my national team dying from heat exhaustion and dehydration after 2 minutes! Would you?

Alright I agree with you on the whole "they should actually qualify for a World Cup before they can host one" tangent there but as for the "religious nutcases" thing, isn't that going a bit too far? Islam is an inherently peaceful religion, unfortunately a small minority of Muslims are too radical for others' good, and this minority get all the attention. It doesn't do to bash the entire Muslim ethnicity...

I'm not so sure the sponsor will spoil this jersey. My bet is Cosmos won't get a lame sponsor like Xango (RSL) but get something on the high familiar end like Seattle, DC, and Chicago

Feel exact same...ive never been a fan of leagues such as the MLS and the A-League making teams be represented by one brand only, it ruins the individualism.
