what happened to wigan being the latics?

Latics is a short form of the suffix Athletic.

The nickname was originally used by Oldham Athletic at the start of the twentieth century. It was later adopted by Wigan in the 1970s. When the two clubs meet in any competition is it known as "The Latics Derby".

Thanks Wikipedia!

NIce jersey.

I like the pattern of lines crossing on the chest and back.

Without the big carbrini logos on the sleeves the jersey would look better.

We are Latics is because Wigan are known as THE Latics.
Badge is growing on me even if it looks drawn by a spotty teenager in his bedroom!

quality, really like this kit...the enbossing across the chest is a bit different would still be ok without it.

the colour mix of gold and black works well

not bad from carbrini

The new badge is very old fashioned and looks like it has been designed by a amateur. A complete (h)owler!

That badge is pretty awesome in my opinion, the owl looks pretty evil. The wording on the badg ecould have been a lot better though.

Kit is pretty good, the logos on the sleeves let it down a bit.

I disagree. It's good, the only thing I don't like is that the shape of the badge looks like a rip-off of the Arsenal badge to me.

Terrible branding of the new badge. Lost all the equity of the previous... No diamond shape! No Red banner! No football! Shambles... instead its a default shield lifted from The Arsenal and Portsmouth. The club could have done so much better. Your badge has history, which people grow up with and love, its been thrown away. Shame on the board

Crap badge, poor application, woven label would of been much neater and less change of the old nipple chaffing.
Another poor design from cabrini, chav brand chav team x

Why does it say "Oldham Athletic AFC" surely the "A" in "AFC" stands for Athletic so the badge effectively says "Oldham Athletic Athletic Football Club"
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

0 # 2011-04-28 18:15
The "A" in "AFC" stands for "Associated", as far as I'm aware most teams have "A" in their full name, but don't seem to bother with it when displaying their initials. For example, Leeds United Associated Football Club, is the full name, but "LUFC" are the initials used. I use Leeds because I support 'em. I can't be bothered looking at whether that's the case with the likes of Liverpool etc, but they're always displayed as "LFC".

+4 # 2011-04-28 19:41
You're almost right, the "A" is actually "Association", taken from the full title of the sport (association football). Most football clubs from a town or city that also have a rugby club use the suffix "AFC" to distinguish their identity and the code they played from the rugby clubs who use "RFC", "RUFC", "RLFC", or even simply "FC".

Oldham have a rugby league club called Oldham Roughyeds, but before the Super League americanisation of rugby league, they were simply "Oldham Football Club".

Anyway, that is a smart kit, pity that Carbrini (as usual) had to wreck it with their huge sleeve logos.

As for the badge, I think it looks better than their previous one, but who am I to comment on another team's badge?!

Hm!

Really nice design, shame its made by "Carbrini" (JD Sports). Also, the new crest is nice but a lot of clubs nowadays are adopting the "Arsenal" base shield design as their new one.

Why can't clubs be more innovative, original, perhaps more traditional? I hope to God Watford doesn't do the same thing if they ever change their badge - which hasn't changed at all since 1978 (apart from the type font).

Generally not a big fan of mono-color. I tend to prefer some part of the kit be a secondary color. But as far as single-color kits go, this isn't an awful one. Some nice subtle details here and there, without looking too dull.
