Partick Thistle 11-12 puma home football shirt

As Thistle enter an exciting partnership with new Club Sponsor Macb the new home kit for season 2011/2012 was unveiled.

The kit, which features new club sponsor Macb, goes on sale at Greaves from today and stays true to the traditional Thistle colour scheme of yellow, red and black, but for the first time in the club’s 135 year history the jersey features pinstripes.

Last year’s African nations inspired brushstroke hoops have been replaced with a thin red vertical pinstripe on a yellow kit with black shorts and black socks

The club has mostly alternated between hoops and bold vertical stripes since the 70s but never has it gone for the thin pinstripe look which burst onto the football scene in the early 80s through iconic clubs like AC Milan, Barcelona, Liverpool, Man United and Leeds.

Kenny Webster, managing director of macb;

"It's a great strip that's going to look brilliant on the pitch - and on our mascot, Jaggy MacBee. This is our first-ever shirt sponsorship and we're tremendously proud to be associated with Partick Thistle."

Thistle manager Jackie McNamara was equally as impressed;

“We’re delighted with the design of the new home kit, Greaves always makes sure we stand out from the crowd. We’ve had grey and pink hoops, brush stroke red and yellow hoops and even camouflage in recent years and they’ve all been popular with both the fans and players so we’re sure that the retro pinstripe look will be a big hit.

“The lads have taken well to it and are already looking forward to seeing the new away kit.”

The new kit will make its’ Firhill debut on Saturday July 16th at the pre-season fixture with Celtic.

Greaves Sports managing director Sandy Greaves said he wanted to make sure the club continued its track record of bringing out kits which break with the norm in Scottish football.

He said:  “When it comes to Teamwear it’s very easy for a club to end up with the same kit in a different colour as another club if they’re both signed to the same brand, that’s what the majority of clubs in Scotland have.  But Partick Thistle as a club has always been a bit different so we try to make sure the kits reflect this and have a bit more character.

“We don’t want them turning out in a yellow and red version of a Greenock Morton strip so we work with the designers and give them a brief which we feel sets Thistle’s players and fans apart from their rivals.”

Sandy Greaves continued:  “Jerseys with collars were popular back in the 70s and the 80s saw pinstripes make an appearance from Aston Villa to Atalanta so the new kit has a real retro look about it and I hope the boys will be inspired to bring the glory days back to Firhill wearing the kit.”

Thanks to Stephen

Very Melchester Rovers - what a GREAT shirt. If anyone really doesn't like this - there's something wrong with you!

All clubs take note - PUMA take note - forget weird templates, bold, simple, straight-forward. Sponsor helps as good bold logo.

BRILLIANT - and even more surprising being PUMA

Puma really needs to make this design a template. It's a much better take on vertical stripes then that monstrosity in Barcelona, and I would be perfectly content seeing more teams adopt their own variations of it.
