South Africa 2011/12 Puma Home and Away Kits

These are the new home and away South Africa kits to be worn between 2011 and 2012 manufactured by Puma.

We reported in January that South Africa were very close to signing with Puma now the official kits have been released at a special conference in Johannesburg.

Puma will provide the official playing kits for all associated South African teams, including the National 'A', Youth and Women's teams. Puma is also SAFA's official partner in relation to replica kits, fanwear and other merchandise. The South African National A team will first wear the new Puma kit during their next fixture scheduled for the 10th August (opponents to be confirmed).

South Africa will become the twelfth current African international team to be currently outfitted by Puma, the German company is also supplying the Orange African Cup of Nations champions Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Algeria, Senegal, Morocco, Togo, Burkina Faso, Malawi and Namibia.

Kirsten Nematandani, President of the South African Football Association, said, "To announce this new commercial relationship with Puma is a great privilege for us, and we are very happy to have secured this deal. Puma's presence in African football really speaks for itself, and they were the most desirable company for us to align ourselves with. Their technical innovation and excellence is of course important, but more so is the heritage and support they have demonstrated for this continent over a number of years. They are the perfect partner as we strive to grow the profile of football in South Africa in the years to come."

Why did they switch to puma so soon after hosting the World Cup which is sponsored by Adidas? I still don't get it!

No SAFA didn't renew the Adidas sponsorhip due to replica versions of the last kit missing the Protea logo (which was a fumble by SAFA to begin with)... So i guess Puma also waved some more cash cos they haven't had a kit supplier since December 2010. The Adidas teamwear they have been wearing recently were purchased from Adidas... gotta love african administration *SMDH*

its more to do with Adidas's monopoly with the world cup... they insist as a priority to gain the technical rights to that nations shirts... because of the worldwide exposure the host gets...
after that if it is a small jurisdiction with little worldwide appeal, to be honest they dont give a toss... its sad but true

It's a big bummer, I thought South Africa's previous Adidas kits were fantastic. Hoping for a better Cameroon-style Puma kit for SA next year.

They deserve better than this template. Not that it's bad, it's just not original. The old adidas kit was decent.

Remember guys, this is just a stopgap. I fully expect them to have a new kit for the African Cup of Nations, with Painted stripes, a cool new design and watermarks of Lions, Springboks or some other wild animal on them.

At least I hope.

Sure this must be one to tide them over, while Puma do use templates for a lot of teams they often pull out all the stops for the African teams, hopefully SA will get a kit every bit as good as some of the other African nations!

As a South African, I am disappoint. Puma didn't even try with this one... it's just Tottenham's kit with different colors. And when Tottenham release their new kit for next season, this will look out of date.

Its not Tottenhams kit... Its the Puma King range for 2011/2012 SMDH.... I also dunno why Puma would use a range they released last yr this yr too as a "new" range beside the Esito III range... only the suits know i guess

Yes, but clearly Tottenham is the highest-profile team using that template, so of course when another team uses it, people will think primarily of Spurs.

Anybody know what the new kit looks like?

The best you can say for those kits is that at least the shorts and socks can be mixed and matched with the home shirt.
That way South Africa should not need a third kit.

Very true, as a Host nation, South Africa were a lucrative partner for Adidas, which uis why Adi only signed them until December 2010 and then....... no further value to be had from SA. I'm sure you'll see Nike do the same with Poland also after the Euro 2012.

All the comments about, templates and not bothering with a new design, Puma should have done something unique etc are a bit unqualified, does anyone know how long it takes to design, sample, develop and then manufacture a kit? The first game is in August, so I would guess that SA take delivery in July or earlier, work backwards from there on when the contract with Adi expired and you fast run out of time, so this would most likely be why SA were given a template in their National colours, its effective and all the 'leg work' had already been done. As some other comments say, I'm sure the next round of CAN shirts will be great, as Puma Africa Shirts set a standard at the last CAN and the WC2010 for new, inventive designs.

Nike and Adi, along with Puma, Umbro etc all use Templates, espically the bigger brands who contract hundreds of clubs and national sides, do we all really think that each separate entity will get a unique design........?!!!!

Good kit and a nice 'place holder' roll on the CAN designs

Do not feel sorry for Pienaar! Here's the conversation he held with his agent:

"Hey, here's an obscene amount of money, all you have to do is play football for an EPL side and represent your Country on the field of play, millions of South Africans will idolise you and dream of following in your footsteps, you'll be a National Hero! However, there is one MASSIVE drawback, you will have to wear the 'same' kit for Club and Counrtry.......... I know, I know, I'm sorry but I couldn't get it changed, perhaps we can ask for an extra 10K a week in wages to soften the blow!!!!!"

Poor Pienaar - WTF!!!! He's a millionaire!! I'm sure he is very happy to wear the kit and represent his National side.

I think its a smart placeholder kit. Of course its just a hold-over until the Africa Cup.

Puma has many contracts within Africa. They do go a little template heavy in the WC, which I don't like. I don't need every African nation to have the same template, it looks cheap.
