Sunderland 11/12 Umbro Home Kit

Here is the new Sunderland home kit designed by Umbro for the 2011/2012 Premier League season, which will be available here.

The new kit is due to be launched on the 22nd of May, a day before the last game of the season, so it seems quite likely the kit will be first used here.

The kit itself is pretty much what we've come to expect from Umbro in recent years, a basic looking kit but still retaining a lot of personality and identity. The kit will again be a red/white shirt and black shorts although the socks have been slightly modified and are now hooped in red and white rather than a solid colour.

The back of the shirt is where the design gets interesting. Rather than just a continuation of the stripes from the front at the shoulders, they seem to veer off course and create a V shape, which intentioanlly or unintentionally does look like a partial Umbro logo. Another change comes with the centre stipe of the shirt being swapped from white over to red, something Umbro did with their first shirt when their contract began in 2007 and also back in the late 70s.

didn't like at first, but it is growing on me.
It is a bit lazy though, very similar to the 2000-2002 home kit.
I would have liked to have seen a collar, perhaps something like the current rangers away shirt.
Only hope the Away is a little more interesting.

so unless you REALLY like the black collar and the funky misalignment on the stripes on the back, there really is no reason to get this shirt if you have the 10/11 kit

One day soon, people will tire of the flow of 'new' kits each year and will say enough is enough - do we really need this to go on ad infinitum?

I didnt write that, friend thought he was funny :L

On the kit, very smart, the back is a bit odd, but atleast they've made some originality out of red and white stripes.

Umbro really revvin' up her engine, listen to the howlin' roar, metal under tension, beggin you to touch and go. Highway to the danger zone. Headin into twilight, spreadin out her wings tonight, she got you jumpin off the track, and shovin' into overdrive.

The top of the back looks like a factory mistake or something. I really hope it is.
Apart from that area, the kit is nice and simple, just like every other Umbro kit. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just making a statement.

Should every bloody club under the sun release a new home kit each year? it's getting out of hand frankly and I think Im going to permanently go the route of the casual-style football supporter. At least there's the slight possibility of value for money.

Back is a little odd but its a nice kit all the same.

To the people saying its similar to kits of previous years, what do you expect? Your limited on what you can do with striped kits. One of the downsides of releasing a new kit every season.

I like simple kits, especially with stripes, almost every time designers try to do something clever or different with them it looks worse than a simple striped shit would have done. Originality is good but it's less important than respecting clubs' traditions and having a good looking kit, those are what the priotities should be. I like this shirt a lot, it's not wildly exciting but it looks good and looks like a Sunderland kit should.

I think what Statto 74 means is that the angle of the photo is such that light is reflecting in away to only appear that there are stripes on the sock.
If you look closely on the last picture of the long sleeved top you find no stripe on the sock. Hope this has cleared things up Mango's

It certainly has helped me out as I too was having trouble with the sock issue. Where I think we can all agree is that it is vital to ensure that we enjoy our 5 portions of fruit each day.

Err no, what I am saying is you can only see below the white band on the right sock due to the positioning of the photographer. Plum!

Lovely kit, although still not totally sold on the strangely positioned chevrons on the top of the back of the shirt.

Love the black collar and cuffs, very reminiscent of our 2000-2002 Nike home kit.

Oh, and to the morons that clearly follow Newcastle on here commenting that 'Mackems r shite' and 'Europa league for the scum', et al....Take a look at the current table, you muppets. Last I looked, we were still above your rabble in the league.
