The Wellington Phoenix and its new apparel sponsor adidas unveiled the team’s new 2011 uniform, in front of fans in Wellington.
The yellow and black match kit was designed by adidas in collaboration with the club. The thick vertical stripes that have characterised the team’s uniform for the past few years have been channeled into the torso of the jersey. These thick stripes are dear to the heart of the Phoenix, and were originally drawn from those within the team’s crest.
The thick stripes are accented by adidas’s signature triple stripe, which runs across the shoulders and down the sleeves.
“It’s a bold look that we believe is the most striking of any team in the Hyundai A-League,” says adidas Sports Marketing Strategic Manager Paul Stephens. “It also features the same patented adidas technology that goes into the uniforms of teams such as Real Madrid and Chelsea.”
The strip contains Formotion and Climacool technology, to allow players freedom of movement while keeping them dry, cool and comfortable. For the first time, players can choose between short-sleeved and long-sleeved shirts.
Another first for the Phoenix is a separate supporter’s replica shirt, which will be released in stores from September.
The new playing kit was revealed by key Phoenix players at a public event at Wellington’s Midland Park on Lambton Quay shortly after midday today.
The kit will debut this coming season, which kicks off in October. adidas has signed a four-year commitment to be the Phoenix’s official apparel supplier, which will run until at least the end of the 2015 A-League season.
Phoenix CEO Nathan Greenham says the club is delighted with its new kit. “It’s confident and bold – just like the Phoenix team. This season there will be even more reason for our players and fans to wear our strip with pride.”
Adds Phoenix Captain Andrew Durante: “The strong colours are great. It’s a uniform that really seems to fizz with energy. We’re looking forward to harnessing that energy out on the field come October.”

Congratulations, both your comment and name are predictable. Idiot.
Well, I think they're 110NZD (about 100A), but still - better than the Reebok crap we got before.
Agreed. That giant sponsor sticker is uncomfortable as hell. Bad, bad, design.
more than a decade and a half later - we have kits that look half shirt-half rain mac!
Sort it out Adidas.
Candy sponsored liverpool from 1988 - 1992
That early huh? Just emphasises the point more!
I am shocked there are negative scores on this comment - perhaps the new thing IS to have the big plastic-type boxes. I'm surprised!
The shirt here is actually nice, don't get me wrong, and the sponsor is a classy one - just can't see why people would PREFER the stick-on type rather than the 'it will never flake off in the wash' type that Candy was back in the day
It's black, yellow and f**king ugly...
anyone??
but my real beef is why doesnt MLS let clubs pick their own brands. A-league has starting doing that and their clubs look nice, our league is just monotone, socialist every club looking the same ugly.
Because adidas sponsor the league, therefore both fanchises and the league would lose their exclusivity agreement and thus any money they gain from it. I see your point though.
dude. i love all the mls kits! i suppose it does get boring but i rekon adidas has done a great job over there!
were a poor league but the quality of football is quickly improving year by year
