Zenit Home Kit 2011/12

These are the new Zenit St. Petersburg home and away kits for the 2011/2012 Russian Premier League season produced by Nike

The home is light blue in a familiar Nike template but with an added twist of a windmill style pattern on the blue, or at least that's the only way I can describe it.

The away is the exact same style with the colours reversed. Behind the club's crest are the words "Наше имя Зенит" which translates to English roughly as "We are Zenit", giving it a slightly unique touch although a similar motif can be found in almost every other shirt produced by Nike.

Looks kinda lazy tbh and I really hate those cuffs. The shirt should look alright on TV when there's no close-up but I wouldn't wear one.

alright, the 1st 3 comments(although being given by 1 person LAN,RBNY,ildiego are one single person)are enthusiastic.

but these remind me of celtic and the current gear. the featured star (which is narrowly on the shirt) is on the celtic training gear aswell. collar: the same- inside print on the badge: same....

where´sthe new?

I can tell you they all came from different IP addresses.

I totally agree with the rest of the comment though. It's a nice pattern but it means nothing to Zenit (nothing obvious anyway) and I don't think simply changing the text BEHIND the logo is enough to set it apart.

Very like the umbro pattern from the early-90s.

Also, when did Georgios Samaras sign for Zenit?

What a lack of creativity. Just google for "diamond pattern background" and you´ll find Nike´s source of inspiration...

Quoting Villians:
It looks heaps same Stupid Nike Cant even make new ideas now!

This is why Ihave always preferred Adidas kits! Even if they come out with an ugly kit, at least they are trying to be creative by changing their templates! Hope nike doesn't influence them to be lazy...

Brilliant shirt. I like how it looks very textured from afar, but I don't like Nike's laziness in keeping the same lightning stripes for the goalkeeper's shirts.

Zenit should get back to wearing the navy blue instead of the light blue.
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

+1 # 2011-03-11 18:46
The colour blue they are using now is their original shirt colour dating back to the pre-Stalinets era - they only resorted to navy in the first instance because of fabric shortages under the Soviet regime, and then later as a point of nostalgia.

The pattern's off the onion domes found on the top of Russian churches, I think. At least makes a dull design interesting. Nike - dull, dull, dull.

I am sorry if I seem ognorant in what I say but I love the Russian language, the way it is written and the fat that 'Z' is a number 3. Ignorance maybe on my part but if anyone can fill in why, I would appreciate it! Great kits, love the designs.

The Cyrillic alphabet comes half from Greek and half from Hebrew. The letters we recognise as aesthetically similar to our own alphabet carry the Greek pronunciations and values, for example C as S, and H as N, and why A carries the same value elsewhere. It isn't a particularly difficult language to learn once you get your head around the alphabet as a starting block.
