it sure looks like black to me, not that the standard obsidian would be any better. I'm not one of these Arsenal purists that need an all-white unadorned sleeve....
But man this is the worst Arsenal kit I've seen since the bruised banana ones.

They wore various versions navy and white (or navy / red) hooped socks back in the 30's up to 1960, so darker socks aren't totally out of nowhere.

What I don't understand is why Nike calls a dark blue "obsidian" as it's usually considered a version of black, not blue.

True about uniteds collar, but at least the shirt design is different, not just changing the collar like last year and expecting fans to buy them again. Why do teams need a new jersey every year. I know nike are trying to make money, but the clubs should do something for their supporters.

Agreed with Arsenal, but Black and Red have a history with City's shirts. It's an homage to Milan, not United. It's like United and their connection to blue. It's a throwback to 1968, not to City.

Learn some of the history of clubs and shirts, and you won't sound like an idiot.

Grant: You are right tabout pretty much everything, but United were wearing royal blue change kits since at least 1946. It was 1968 when City started wearing the red and black stripes and they'd been wearing red change shirts since victorian times.

I know this, but it's royal blue we use not sky blue (who's the idiot now?)
When city last used their red and black kit (over 40 yrs ago), the rivalry was nowhere near as intense as it is now, so its feels like a slight dig/mocking (maybe just in my eyes) - similar to what city fans would have felt when we did the poznan in the ethiad stadium during the most recent fa cup meeting.

Well thats not true, they had red kits in 08/09 and 03/05 not to mention several times in the 80's and 90's.

Its got nothing to with a dig at man utd.

Wait Sorry.. Saying Man City Took Your Red And Black is Like Saying Arsenal Use Chelsea's Blue :-|
Tim And Grant Are Correct..
Manchester City used red Kits Throughout Their History..
Just Like Manchester United Used Royal Blue Through Their Away Kit History... 1939-April 1957 Is The Longest one..
By What jorge Is Saying That means We Can Say Manchester United Nicked Chelsea's Colours..

And the blue of 1968 also decends from the first away strip of man utd in 1902 when they wore blue and white stripes, and also throughout the 40s when they wore solid blue shirts with white shorts as away kits

It's because they needed to wear a kit that didn't clash with Benfica, who wore red and white stripes, and won the coin toss/ draw to decide who wore their home kit in the final. United wore red as home shirt, white away, so they needed a new kit.
The City of Manchester (not Man City football club) official colour is blue, so there you go.
No big mystery, and in 1968 at least, it wasn't based on the club's tradtion.

It's a very interesting story, but there's just one problem: Benfica didn't wear red and white stripes.

The truth is that back in those days, if there was a kit clash in a cup final, BOTH teams were expected to wear their away kits. The problem was that Benfica and United both had white away kits. As you say, Benfica were deemed the "home" team in the 1968 final, so United opted to play in the royal blue kit.

Colmshan1990: Your story is rubbish. There was no coin toss, it was tradition that if there was a colour clash in the final, both teams wore change kits. United frequently wore blue before 1968, although usually with white shorts. Their normal change colours were white but as Benfica were also to wear white, United went with blue. Google "unitedkits" for a look at all the previous blue kits they wore.

Manchester has no official colour. If it did it would most likely be red as that (along with gold) is what colour the arms are.

I stand corrected, Benfica didn't play in stripes.
I'm definitely wrong in that.
However, according to a United history/encyclopaedia I looked up when I got home, it was because it was the city's colour. (Although google can't confirm this, maybe it's not anymore, or just wasn't official.) They also adopted the City's coat of arms too.
They did use blue kits before from time to time, for the same reason (apparently).
I was wrong about the other parts though- both teams did wear change strips, and I should have gotten that right (in my defence, I did type that up 15 mins before heading to a stressful exam).

No, sorry Colmshan, there is no truth to blue being the colour of the city of Manchester. In fact I can't think of any English city that has an official colour. They wore blue for the simple reason that it was distinctly different from their home and away colours. They had worn the Manchester coat of arms in the 1948, 57 and 63 FA Cup finals too - they did not wear any other crest on their shirts at the time. It was traditional for clubs to wear the arms of their city in the finals. Man City also wore them in their finals in the 1930s and 50s.

You're all arguing for vaguely the same thing. We know It was something to do with Benfica in the European Cup final, we know that it was royal blue, not sky (a la Man City). Put the handbags down and reach a happy medium.

Manchester United wore red socks in the 60s
Arsenal have at time worn kits with navy blue in it, which I believe that colour is, Such a poor quality photo you cannot tell. The Barca socks look a bit dodge because they are so light in colour. Maybe they were just random socks they got together to put with the rest of the kit???

I find it funny when people make comments without knowing any historical reference to the clubs involved. If you check out the history of Manchester United you can find out the wore red socks in several periods of their past including as recent as the '60's and early '70's. Arsenal has had navy in their kit as recent as last decade and have previously worn navy socks (and by the way they are navy in the photo not black). Just cause kits haven't included these details in the kits from the last 5 years doesn't mean it's not part of a club's history. Do your research before dismissing something.

According to another website it is navy on the Arsenal sleeves and collar, not black. May just be the dodgy camera quality causing it to look black/grey.

Also the Barca/Man U designs have been around a while now, be very surprised if they weren't the real thing...

not black, looks blue to me, a bit shadowed. The socks are switched between united and arsenal. Look at the sleeve on Barcas, i doubt the fade from blue to black, its just the shadow. Compare the collar on united to the stripe on the sock, the stripe on the sock is blue.

They do need to swap the socks of Man U and Arsenal in these photos, beyond that - not too shabby, especially when you ignore the Barca kit which is horrendous.

Nike appear to be running dreadfully out of ideas. The Manchester United shirt in particular is a very weak effort (if effort is not too strong a word!). You cant differentiate it from any other Manchester United shirt Nike have produced and its so plain its just dull!

I like them. Barca and man u have real nice kits . I like arsenals kit design wise but with those colors I'm sure there will be heads rolling. Overall I like them all. Honestly though fsc has the most pathetic fans ever. Almost everything that gets posted here is met with utter disgust. Live alittle guys. Imo I think these kits are nice but if you really have issue take it with club management cuz every design has to go through the club first. Maybe ferge like plad?

I believe they leak it to get feedback so they can change it in time, if it aint favourable. Barcelona should wear stripes. Arsenal with navy trim is a good idea as they had it before. Manchester United should have a white collar.

No, it's not inconceivable that whoever dressed the mannequins is not a football fan and mistakenly put the red socks with the Man United kit (because they match the shirt) put the blue socks with Barcelona and finally put the black socks on the Arsenal kit because they were the only pair left.

Stop calling them fake.

No-one is going to have the time to fake the above. And on top of that, they match what various other sources have been told the kits will look like; or even, such in these comments, what someone has seen for themselves.

Just because you don't like them does not make them fake. Anyone who's used Photoshop will tell you these aren't fake.

If you can't prove they're fake, then don't call them fake.

you r a moron,

the tartan pattern is a tribute to SAF. they are most certainly not making an exact scotland national shirt clone with scottish color way. they incorporated it to their colorway.

this board is funny,
if a shirt is to modern, its not traditional enough. if its traditional, its "boring like every year".

Wow, people are really freaking out here. Let's just look at the evidence:

1 - terrible pic quality, so whoever took it is probably an inside sneak/fake industry leak. poorly lit, blurry, cameraphone image. If we can agree on that, we can move to debate what they are showing us:

2 - The socks argument: it's possible whoever set these mannequins up (and took the pic) made a mistake and they are on the wrong legs. i.e you could swap Arsenal and Man U around. The stripes on the red socks could mach the arsenal shirt, but the reds seem to be different shades, is this due to the lighting/poor camera? We could be here for weeks arguing it without reaching conclusion. Move on.

3 - "Are these official or not?" - well, this happens every season, fake kits get "leaked", real kits get "leaked". I have noticed remarks on here that make sense from people who say common sense stuff like:
a) football kits are made a year or more in advance of public announcement
b) mock-ups of possible kits are often produced to help the decision making process for clubs.
So this pic could fall into the category of "test shot"

however

the fact that three of NIKE's biggest sellers are lined up like this, suggests it's for display purposes and these ARE official/already approved by the clubs and they're being shown to retailers or something, ahead of public advertising.

4 - lots of people on here saying "they ARE real": you're just another Internet opinion sonny, just like me, I don't know you from Adam.

In conclusion, the only thing we DO know for sure is: whether we personally LIKE THEM OR NOT which may be why they've leaked - market research or something.

So do you like?

End of.

The blue on Barca's socks isn't the same blue as the rest of the kit. Actually, looking at it again, none of the socks are right but nike will probably (hopefully) change that. For me, Barcelona need solid stripes on their kit and this kit looks like a throwback to 2000/01 season. Man United's is a different concept and I like red and black together on that kit but Arsenal's is 10/11 kit with black bits on the sleeves.

The Arsenal kit is dire. I hope they have it

people can be so jumpy on here lol. I'm sure its not black on the arsenal kit, but navy. a very common trend in the past. especially with their nike kits. actually, its much closer to tradition than the current trend of their new redcurrant color as a trim. with that being said, im sure the socks won't be navy (at least not the first choice). perhaps the socks paired with man u are supposed to be arsenal as some have said? looks like that me be navy on their as well. and it would jive a little with the blue on the sleeve. manure one looks kinda nice imo and the barcholes i could care less about. ive seen worse.

That tartan-patterned United kit, plus the new tartan blue away shirt is a tribute to Sir Alex for 25 years service, as revealed on this site late last year, but swiftly removed a day or so later. A statue is also set to be unveiled outside Old Trafford before next season begins, or so I've heard.

But red socks and black for Arsenal? Shome mishtake, shurely?

Pretty sure the socks aren't real... Arsenal wouldn't wear black socks, Man U wouldn't wear red socks, the shade of blue on the barca ones is really different, and there's no Nike logo on any of them.

To be honest I hated the barca shirt when I saw it, but when someone wears it, it looks pretty decent. Same for Man U.

Arsenal, I don't know what to say, but the sleeves are horrible, only positive thing I can say is that is doesn't have a red collar.
