Gillingham FC has unveiled a centenary kit which will be worn next season. Next season is a big one for the club as they celebrate 100 years of being known as Gilllingham FC.

The club was founded in 1893 as New Brompton, but changed its name for the 1912/13 campaign, with the official name change being completed at the end of that season.

A number of things are planned next season to commemorate this special event, and the first of them to be announced is this new kit, which is a reproduction of the kit the team wore in that first season as The Gills. It also has the town's coat of arms as the badge, with the club's crest on the sleeve.

Chairman Paul Scally said in his programme notes for yesterday's game with Dagenham & Redbridge: "As many of you will be aware, while Gillingham Football Club has been established for about 118 years, we are actually celebrating our centenary as being named Gillingham Football Club this coming season.

"As such we have reproduced the playing kit worn by the team 100 years ago (pictured below), and will be playing in that kit next season as a tribute to everyone connected to this fine club over the last century.

"There will be a home and away strip, in both short and long sleeve, and we have reproduced the kit in an identical way to that of 1912/13, including the coat of arms badge and other detail of that time.

"We hope you like the idea, and indeed the strip, those who have seen it so far think it's a stunning design and a great idea."

The shirts are to go on sale in July, but will be able to be pre-ordered - and there is a special deal for season-ticket holders.

Mr Scally explained: "As an additional bonus, we are offering a special deal to the first 2,000 adult season ticket holders who purchase/renew their season tickets for next season.

"For every adult season ticket purchased we will allow you to redeem a voucher in our shop whereby for just £60 you can purchase both the home and away historic collector's shirt, a once-in-a-lifetime offer for a special piece of club history.

"Stocks will be limited and this offer is strictly for season ticket holders only and applicable to adult-size shirts.

I doubt they'll even play against crystal palace, let alone barcelona!
but I agree that they'll need a 3rd kit.

Very nice kit. Some clubs go for an old fashioned look Arsenal (06) Southampton (11) and Man U-some kits only (10).

But not as original as this. Very very nice kit, particularly the lace/string at the collar!

Stunning, although will be strange to see them in such a different kit from their usual Inter style.

That's a great looking shirt. I can see the laces being rejected by the players though. The old heraldic crest looks fantastic on it and its a great touch to have the current badge on the sleeve too.

I don't like to see sponsor logos on commemorative kits though. Spoils it a little.

I think it's fantastic, though I'm never a fan of strings, but all round it's brilliant! Would have been great sponsorless though.

Not really something I like that much although I can see the audience it will appeal to.
I like the laces on the front of the shirt. A bit like Man United 1992-1993

 Absolutely hideous! I thoroughly detest it, The Gills will be the laughing stock of the League. These kits would be more appropriate for Coco the Clown.
Not only that but Home & Away clash with each other so a third kit will be needed. Does Scally seriously think people will part with £40 for that rubbish? I refuse to pay £40 for the normal shirt, I wait till they change and buy it half price. No football shirt should ever cost more than £25 max. SCALLY, THE CENTENARY SHIRTS ARE HIDEOUS, SCRAP THIS DAFT IDEA!
