Aston Villa officially unveiled their new 12/13 home football shirt, which will be available here.

The kit, featuring a classic Italian style using the latest design technology, contain a number of innovative details.

These include a new embossed lion motif within the fabric to the rear and an embroidered club logo on the back of the neck.

The home strip, which was forged drawing inspiration from the 1980-81 championship-winning design, is made by integrating different fabrics, each with specific technical and high-performance characteristics.

This allows the shirt to breathe while also providing superior resistance and maintaining comfort and elasticity.

The main fabric has been constructed with a great attention to comfort, performance and effervescence, in order to guarantee maximum comfort and best performance.

The neck is a real novelty. It's a modern polo made with rib fabric and constructed with a double collar for maximum comfort.

Inside the neck the size tag is personalized with a yellow lion figure on a sky background.

It looks very little like West Ham - http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/fans/west-ham-macron-kits-201112_12073

Granted the same colours but they have always shared the same colours for their homes shirts.

The response of Villa fans has been nothing but positive about this kit. Also Villa signed a £15million deal with Macron ( a club record), rather than being given a nike template with minimal tweaks to the design or stupid checks

Macron logo's are the main detractor here, they're just obnoxious. I seriously hope kitmakers will finally get the hint sometime soon that this ruins kits. Looking at adidas, Macron, Kappa, and Fila, mostly.

The yellow trim at the bottom of the shirt is a tad rudimentary, and I'm not at all sure about the shorts, but it's still a reasonably good kit. Better than what Nike conjured up these past few years.

Now if only those logo's weren't there..... ah well, you know they'll peel off within weeks (got classmates who love AZ and own their Macron kits; the shoulderstickers were damaged after two or three bouts of gym class, and have been gone for a while now)

Unfortunately, you're right - as always the fans will take the hit.
In terms of getting what you pay for, I meant the contract with Macron and Villa.
For me Villa continually dabble with being a progressive club and almost getting it right - and then make poor commercial decisions.
4/5 years ago it felt like Villa were making great strides with the new Nike contract, O'Neill at the helm and an exciting young English team.
Now I'm just not sure what they're are trying to be.

It would be better if the socks (which are rediculous) and the shorts (which are tacky) were just the exact same colour as the shirt. Yes it is a bit plain but looks smart and does not have the risk of the kit looking cheap and tacky. Keep it simple and make it original only if you know it will be good

Amazing how kit designers can take traditional colour schemes and really screw them up...claret shirts with sky blue sleeves, white shorts, sky blue socks. Simple? er, no. And whats this rubbish about being based on the early 80's strip? that one had striped collar and cuffs. This one is just c**p. Macron remind me of the mid 90's kits, when designers were in the habit of throwing every bit of trim, piping, and shadow stripe on kits and hoping they worked. Oh well, could be worse - away kit could be snot green...
