Canada 2012 Umbro Home and Away Football Shirts

canada 12/13 umbro home and away football shirts

The Canadian Soccer Association and Umbro Canada hosted a special event in Toronto on 2 February 2012 with members of Canada’s National Teams, corporate partners and media to kick-off the 2012 season – the Association’s centennial year. The highlight of the night was the official unveiling of the 2012 Umbro kit that will be worn by Canada's national teams as of late February this year.

Canada's men's and women's national teams will wear the new Umbro kit on back-to-back nights on 28 and 29 February. Canada's women's national team will wear the new Umbro kit on 28 February against Scotland in the 2012 Cyprus Women's Cup in Larnaka, Cyprus; Canada's men's national team will wear the new Umbro kit one night later on 29 February against Armenia in an away Men's International Friendly match.

"In this our Centennial year, the Canadian Soccer Association would like to congratulate Umbro on the launch of the official team kit for Canada's National Teams," said Peter Montopoli, Canadian Soccer Association General Secretary.  "The engagement of Canadian soccer supporters to define the look and feel of what Canada will wear on the pitch is another indication of the tremendous interest and pride that Canadians have for the beautiful game in this country."

The new jersey epitomizes Umbro's ability to have its past inspire the future with sophisticated styling and modern fabric technology. The main body of the shirt is crafted from an innovative material that manages moisture to keep the players cool on the field. Umbro's tailoring and smart styling is predominant in this shirt with subtle contrast details on the neckline and shoulders. The neck taping and call out on the right hip feature a sound wave graphic of fans singing Canada's national anthem. Umbro has captured the passion of the fans in a unique way celebrating the special relationship between Canadian supporters and players.

"We have created a kit that is smart, sophisticated and insightful," said Gerald Woodman, President of Umbro Canada. "By combining leading-edge fabrics, a crisp, clean design aesthetic and clever fan-inspired elements, we have raised the expectations and deepened the meaning around Canadian kit design.

"Our rich tailoring heritage has informed this modern kit. We have also added an Anthem jacket for our athletes, which takes the visual impact on the field to a whole new level. We felt it was important to recognise one of the most important and inspiring elements for the players - the Anthem - with this brilliantly-crafted garment."

as a canadian, im really, really confused about where the whole "aboot" thing came from. i know it was on southpark, but aside from newfs (that's like saying everyone in the states talks like they're from minnesota) i don't know a single person who talks like that.

either way: good to know canadian soccer has enough history to go "retro", although this isn't what i had in mind..

How about putting them in garbage bags and teaching them to play proper football instead. We are in one of the easiest federations to play in and qualify out of. Lets see some on field progress instead of a shiny new kit every year. Perhaps it should have been the women showing these off instead.

The badge is disgraceful still. You would think this being the 100th year of the Dominion FA(yes that's the original name of Canada's association before they foolishly decided to call it Cdn Soccer Association) they could have updated that crap badge for something either retro or contemporary but not this awful salad bowl design.

I was really hoping for the 100 year anniversary they'd update our association crest. And as far as I'm concerned this kit is begging for a horizontal stripe that says CANADA in it, ala 1986. I know it's not necessarily how a traditional football nation would put together a kit, but we're not a traditional football nation and should do our own thing instead of putting together a boring effort like this...

Hilarious....that shirt is not specifically designed for Canada it's a generic shirt you can buy in a supply store and just add the crappy badge. The CSA is a joke. Here it is without badge for $40 -

Why can't the CSA have a new crest. The half leaf, half ball and Canada is old. Got to have a new design, period.

Go back to Adidas.

Shameful. Did they just pick up the phone and order these after sending in a vector of the badge? I suppose the shirt sales for Canada (saying this as a resident) are poor at best, so you can't expect much.

Canada deserves better. I was so looking forward to these coming out and was hoping for a more "Tailored by Umbro" look! but sadly, no... very disappointing! had the potential to be so much better. Sorry Canada, Umbro's let you down here!

+3 # 2012-02-05 21:14
I think only the CSA knows the reason why Canada got poor cookie cutter kits. Either they didn't pay Umbro enough to have a unique design, a la their "Tailored by Umbro" scheme, Umbro didn't offer it, or the clowns at the CSA thought this kit would be 'good enough'.

I bet it's the latter and a typical attitude from those governing football in Canada - poor management, complacency, and never going for first but settling for third.

I actually thought the new kits were an improvement with more effort but in until i started reading some of the blogs esspecially the one proving that the kit is not a unique Umbro creation made specifically for Team Canada. You actually can buy the jersey for $40.00 online without the outdated Canada Crest.
As a proud Canadian soccer player myself i am very dissapointed in CSA's effort's in improving the image of the sport in Canada through our national kits.
