Germany EURO 2012 Adidas Away Football Shirt

We showed you some leaked pictures back in June 2011, but earlier today (9 February 2012), the German Football Association, together with long-time partners and outfitters adidas, proudly presented the new away kit to be worn by the German senior national team players at the forthcoming EURO 2012 tournament in Poland and Ukraine, which will be available here.

The guiding design themes are Passion, Tradition, and the colour Green, a historical reference to a glorious (and victorious) past that includes the 1972 European Championship title. Accordingly, the outside neck of the new shirt features a tagline that reads "1972 – the beginning of a success story, 2012 – a new chapter waiting to be written". Stylish green stripes on the front of the shirt and white shorts complement the picture.

Germany's upcoming friendly against France in Bremen on 29 February 2012 (kick-off 20:45, broadcast live on free-TV channel ZDF) will be the first occasion for head coach Joachim Löw's players to sport their new outfit. From 24 February, it will be available from the adidas Performance Store, at sports apparel retailers, and Here.

England's flag is white and red, and their home jersey is white...the blue comes from the crest of three lions.

The national team's home kit has always been a white shirt and black shorts. The colours are derived from the 19th century flag of the north German State of Prussia.

Fabulous strip, classic retro meets modern...... and back to the good old green change strip for Germany.Quoting demba1demba2:
very nice kit BUT will never understand why germany wear white kits or green kits when their flag is black yellow and red? haha :o

1) Germany wore white before they adopted the current flag. Their old flag was black/white/red tricolour.
2) Green has been used as a change strip because they are the "corporate" colours of the Deutscher Fußball-Bund.

Many countries wear colours that aren't in their flag - Italy, Australia, Northern Ireland, Netherlands, Japan.

The jersey have NOTHING to do with the black, white and red flag. That was the flag of Nazi-Germany and if the jerseys were based on the Nazi flag they would have changed the jersey color after WWII.

Black, white and red was NOT the nazi flag, but the flag of the German Empire (1871-1918).

The shirt colours black and white derive from the Prussian flag, that was black and white.

'Cos the old imperial flag of Germany was black, red and white, and in the early days of the national side the kit was exactly the same. The green comes from the German FA (DFB) crest, and has been the traditional away colour from the '50's to 2004. Good to see it back. Just like England should always play in red away, Germany should always be green.

It's very simple: Green is the color of the German footbal federation DFB and white was already the jersey color back in the Prussia days(white and black were the colors of the Prussian flag).

General Adidas Shorts Issue:
Why have they started putting the adidas logo on the back of the shorts?
In the good old days the badge was on the RHS and the kit manufacturer on the LHS.
Doesn't look so bad when the shorts have a number but looks odd on Replica Shorts and your heart skips a beat when u think you've turned up at 5-a-sides with your shorts on back to front!!
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

+1 # 2012-02-10 14:20
Even on a replica, it still has the national logo or federation badge. Which should always face front (use that as your clue to which side is front and which is back).

It's simple. For adidas shorts, it works like this: front right = badge, front left = number. That's why the adidas logo is on the back, simply because there's no room for the number if they put the logo on the front.

But before somebody mentions it, the green colour has got nothing to do with the myth, that Ireland was the first team to invite Germany for a match when they were isolated by most other nations because of WWI .

They wore green because the colors of the Federation are green. And why are the colors of the federation green(although green was not a part of the Kaiserreich/Empire then-nor the Republics flag now?)

DFB German federation was born in Leipzig at a time when a local based clubs was pretty sucessfull and well known. So for no other reason that that they chose green. Hence they chose green as away shirt which was not changed till 2002 when black/grey and later on RED, BLACK followed.

Thanks for allowing me to be a typical german smarta.s.s

and green is the color of the DFB

But Adidas distinguish absolutely between current range and retro range. Hardly possible to have the trefoil on current new shirts....it´s about branding

Its actually modelled off an Old Republic of Ireland Home jersey from the 1950's. The 1st Team to offer the German international soccer tean a freinsdly after WW2 was the Republic of Ireland and ever since that they have had there 3rd Kit in the Irish green. It seems this is there actual away kit :)

I just don't like green in a football kit... Black with gold numbers and stripes would be the best for Germany away for me.

I think addidas are doing a great job with football shirts. They are light and you can hardly feel its weight when playing in it. Especailly the scotland shirt they designed. I think the scotland addidas home shirt is the best one they have ever made. Just a shame they dont get ever get a chance to show it off in major tournaments. But i wish they had made more emphasis on the german flag on the home shirt

it's a modernization of an old away kit. I personally love this kit. If I had the money I'd buy it straight away with #13 Müller labelled at the back Gerd wore the green 13 away strip and Thomas wears it. It's awesome!

Next time around could add cobalt blue capping sleeves to the nice green, waist and collar as a nod to the DDR team (who were no slouches--especially in the '70s)
