Manchester United 12/13 Nike Home Football Shirt

manchester united 12/13 home football shirt

Manchester United will play in a new Nike home kit inspired by the city’s industrious past this season. The 2012-13 shirt will feature the iconic gingham check that hailed from Manchester’s famous cotton mills and is available here.

Manchester United Football club’s success has been founded on the traditional values of respect and hard work. Those values are what made Manchester the city it is and from the mid 18th century the cotton mills there were prolific in the industry. From those mills came the gingham fabric, an iconic check that like Manchester United is famous around the world and is now – for the first time – used on a Manchester United home shirt.

The tonal gingham in traditional and iconic red gives the home shirt a bold new look.  The black v-neck collar gives the shirt a contemporary look. The inner back neck graphic on the shirt reads, ‘Forged in Industry, Striving for Glory’; paying tribute to the cities industrial past but also the club’s hard-working ethos.

The outer neck graphic is the iconic devil symbol so synonymous around the world with Manchester United whilst a diagonal hatched graphic on the white shorts is a subtle link to the gingham used on the shirt.

The socks are black with a red detail on the top and a white devil icon. They offer a new and innovative design featuring an updated cotton footbed offering the support and comfort enjoyed by professionals to all that wear them.

The red devils t-shirt

Whilst the kit combines modern sport and youth style to give the club an iconic new look, Nike’s innovation gives the team our most technologically advanced kit to aid athlete comfort and performance.

The new home kit is made from Nike’s ground-breaking recycled polyester, making it Nike’s most environmentally friendly kit ever produced.  Each kit (shirt and shorts) is made using up to thirteen recycled plastic water bottles.  This innovative manufacturing process reduces energy consumption by up to 30% compared to manufacturing traditional polyester. Since 2010 Nike has used an estimated 1115 million recycled plastic bottles to create its high performance kits.

The kits are made out of 23% lighter fabric with 20% stronger knit structure than Nike’s previous kits and feature Nike Dri-FIT technology to wick moisture away from athletes to help keep them cool and dry on-pitch.

Kits have bonded re-enforced t-bar junctions that support critical seams on the shirt and shorts and inner welded seams with a flat finish construction to improve comfort and performance.  Temperature regulation is helped by ventilation zones, consisting of a series of tiny laser cut holes from the under arms to the waistband, allowing air to circulate to keep players comfortable.

Nike Pro Combat base-layers are used by athletes to compliment playing kits to further improve comfort and increase protection from injury. Whilst fans and players can enjoy the Nike’s Manchester United Sportswear collection off the pitch, inspired by the club’s heritage.

Get bent, you "top red" cnut. "No proper United fans call us the Red Devils" FFS. What a load of bollocks. I'm sick of people like you trying to police other United fans. Besides, he didn't even refer to United as "the Red Devils", he simply used Red Devil as a handle. WTF is wrong with that?

Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

If they just made the same kit every year nobody would buy them, and everyone would be on here bashing them like they bash umbro for being 'unoriginal'.

Some people like the classic look, some like the flashy look. It's impossible to keep everyone happy.

I support Arsenal and nike haven't given us a proper kit in years, but I think they usually do pretty well by Man United.

Taking into account the quality of the kits and design - and think about when you see one in a store for the first time - has United ever had a decent Nike kit?
In fact, they haven't had a decent kit since 1999...

I agree. Black and dark grey checkers would be fun. But we're going to have blue ones like this year. Untypical for us to have the same away colour for two years running.

The keeper kit is also the same design in green.
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

+4 # 2012-05-12 19:46
I've seen the leaked blue kit and I don't think that's a players kit. I think it's the original design for the goalkeeper kit which they've now changed to green. Notice that the collar on the blue leaked kit matches that on the official green goalkeeper kit.

I think the away kit will be white this season and the blue kit from last year will become the third kit (as usual) to maximize sales. I also doubt it will be the same design.

If you consider what the tartan detail in the kit really represents, then those true United "faithful" shouldnt say a word wrong about there new kit. Not a United man myself but c'mon, it represents a very good era in your club, it is a very strong kit. However in saying that i feel that the crest just looks like a sticker, it has that same material they use to plaster sponsers on shirts which is awful, make the crest an actuall badge then this would complete the design.

-3 # 2012-05-12 15:01
Actually they should - firstly tartan or gingham plays no part in Manchester's cotton history - however United are based in Trafford not Manchester - and Trafford didn't have a cotton industry (only 2 mills at it's height).
In actuallity - if they took the time to research United's past they would see that the club started out as a bunch of Railway workers - train tracks would have been much more approriate!

Umm no i was actually referring to the tartan representing two of United's greatest ever "Scottish" managers, notably Sir Alex Feguson who evidently has given United so much success for the past decades and perhaps is United's greatest ever manager. Also as a tribute to Sir Matt Busby who is undoubtly a ledgend to the club who was Scottish as well. Its not about Manchester's cotton industry you spanner, stop trying to be a smartarse, its about the mark of respect United giving to Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby for their years of dedication and bringing such major success to the club.

I think it looks amazing!
Nobody's ever happy on here. You'll spend another week hating on, then warming towards it - and then buying it.
If a team does something unusual they get slated, and if they play it safe like Liverpool - they also get abuse.
Seriously, what do you want in a kit?
If you don't like it, buy the away kit. Isn't it great to have the choice?
What;s the worst case scenario? If you genuinely hate a kit, it only lasts a year - so it'll be gone before you know it.
Should Nike just keep make a traditional Arsenal kit every season? Or United keep making a similar red shirt?
Er no, because you wouldn't buy it and would be calling them boring.
How about getting back to how this website used to be where people gave some sensible comments and discussed the thing we all love - football kit design.
As a fan I'm looking forward to seeing all the new Nike, Adidas and Puma kits - it's the best time of the season.

It's a tribute to old McTaggart. Firstly, its actually a tartan tea towel & secondly its red in honour of Fergie's whiskey induced facial colour . It all makes perfect sense now.

For you guys talking about "tartan", just go and see what Umbro devised for the Scotland 1996 kit (European Championship in In England)... THAT will give you an idea of what tartan is (first time such an idea was applied to a kit, and AGES before Adidas clumsily tried to propose it for Olympique Marseille).
As always, it' a matter of class. And I am still mad at the thought Nike will be barging in for MCity in one year' s time... Irritating in the least.

Im wondering where Liverpool put their new carling cup ?!

Since they probably lost the keys to their trophy cabinet !

What has it been ?! Seven years since the last REAL trophy ?!

Too bad King Kenny is gone , would have been so nice seeing him destroy any last fabric of dignity they have.

Oh and enjoy your cheap lacrose warrior kits , second grade kit manufacturer for a second grade team.

I've read,"umbro" comments. You do know Nike own the Umbro brand right? Most of Umbro's designs are simply Nike with a different logo. Sort of like Dodge and Plymouth in the muscle car era with Crysler. But who cares.. I'm not even a united supporter and I dig this kit. Man U always have great looking kits, but this one here is a thing of beauty. Just a dandy of a home strip. United supporters should be glad their club have a kit sponsor that put together kits like this.

Absolutely horrific! Every United fan I know hates it, many of which are reluctant to buy it. Nike have consistently made terrible kits for United since the deal began, if I was in charge of negotiating the contract I would terminate it. Nike have really went to the dogs over the last few years, although there has been an improvement on their 2012/2013 ranges
