Well it IS a Spain shirt, isn't it? Circa late 1990s. Why can't people just be original? "Real" Salt Lake FFS. Very strange.

RSL is affiliated loosely with Real Madrid. There are quite a few REAL teams in professional football, what is so odd about RSL?

Nothing - If they are from Spain. 'REAL' is Spanish for ROYAL - as the United States doesn't have a monarchy - It is a tad odd. I know they like thier crazy names, but the likes of Portland Timbers etc have decent naming conventions. To call Salt Lake City's soccer side 'REAL' \ 'ROYAL' is just a bit to playgroundy!

Im with you on this one, all of the MLS's team nicknames have a meaning and relation to the city the team belongs to, RSL not so much....could add my NJRB to this list but its more corporate than anything

Exactly - the corporate ones are a bit odd too, but hey in this world it's the money that matters, sadly. Plus at least they reflect the red bull on shirt, crest etc. Will be very odd if they ever drop Red Bull though! The Real Salt Lake thing, if I am not mistaken, was done in order to attract a partnership from Real Madrid - that's even more cringe-worthy (okay they managed it - but imagine they didn't! or Madrid end it)

The club is owned by Red Bull, you dolt. They own Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, Red Bull Brasil in Brazil, and RB Leipzig in Germany. It's a common thing they do. It's not a sponsorship. Red Bull owns the club. And it's been to the benefit of the team. They finally completed the move to Red Bull Arena, and have made numerous investments in the team.

Grant - you come stomping in and make a pillock of yourself! Your not quite the full deal are you sunshine! I said the corporate names like Red Bull at least make sense! I didn't ask for a history! The team's shirt is emblazoned with Red Bull - thus it makes sense! If your not with it - think before you come on trying to smart by calling folk.

Tell that to Real Espana from Honduras or Real Esteli from Nicaragua. Neither country has a monarchy. You're an idiot.

at least they are a spanish speaking country.... REAL was given to teams by the higher ups, its not simply taken and applied. hence why barca isnt real barca, etc... this is a marketing ploy whicch is stupid. just like calling a team DC United. Or FC Dallas. Its all attempts to relate tot he larger world of football/soccer.

Really, no, REALLY? So you think it's a bad thing for MLS teams to relate to the larger football world? Seriously? Part of the reason the MLS is likely to survive in the long run is because they have stopped trying to be so "American" in certain areas. Team names being one of those ways. FC Dallas used to be the Dallas Burn, which name sounds better? The Houston Dynamo name is a homage to the Eastern European teams like Dinamo Zagreb. As for RSL, if you've been to a game you would see that a very large part of the crowd at RIO TINTO Stadium is Spanish speaking if it is so bloody important to you that teams named REAL be Spanish based.

Real in official terms means that at some point in the clubs history it was supported by the king of spain. Much like
Real Madrid and Real Betis. many of the other Real clubs where names as such to give them a connection to real madrid

This is much better than last years kit. The last pic is of Dreaderman...i mean Beckerman... the club captain. He translated his mad hackeysack skills into a MLS career.

My biggest problem with this shirt is that it promotes the Xango juice home business scam. My second problem with it is that Beckerman needs a haircut, stat.

Not a bad kit. For those hating on Beckerman, not all footballers need to look like Ronaldo/Jersey Shore washout douchebags.

Nice kit overall, but I still give the MLS crap for not embroidering their logos/sponsors. Screen-printing is very low-rent.

The replicas are embroidered and they cost less, i 2 didnt like the whole idea but when you see the kit upclose it does look better...ps i always buy the replicas anyway...Boring kit by RSL but i am pleasantly pleased with MLS's kits this year
