Schalke 04 unveiled the new 12/13 home football shirt made by Adidas, which will be available here.

The neck strip on the inside of the collar says, "Blau und Weiß, wie lieb‘ ich Dich" [Blue and white, how I love you], and additional blue trim around the crest with the club's full name: F.C. Gelsenkirchen-Schalke 04 e.V.

The new shirt costs 79.95 euros, as will the away shirt and the third shirt in future. Two years ago Schalke declined to pass on the price increase introduced by adidas, but that is not possible this time. According to adidas, the price increase is due to a continuous rise in the cost of raw materials, wages and shipping plus the strengthening of Asian currencies against the euro and the US dollar.

It could have been great, but the three darker stripes on the front of the jersey and the outer circle surrounding the club's logo are about as unnecessary as it gets.

A huge step backwards from their current jersey, which I think is one of the best they ever had.
