Sunderland has unveiled the brand new away kit for the 2012-13 Barclays Premier League campaign, which will be available here.

The new kit, featuring adidas branding and Invest In Africa sponsorship, will be launched on Thursday 5th July. At the same time the club's three retail stores will re-open with a brand new look, following extensive refurbishment.

Joining forces for the first time in 133 years with leading manufacturer adidas, Sunderland's striking new away kit sports the brands famous three stripes, along with the latest performance technology including ClimaCool and Formotion. Formotion technology combines fabrics with different properties to aid lower body power and movement on a football pitch. ClimaCool is a moisture wicking fabric which regulates body temperature by taking heat and sweat away from it.

The club's new partner, Invest In Africa, is emblazoned on the front of the shirt. A first in British football, the partnership aims to promote the continent's credentials as a key global business destination along with offering businesses across the North East and beyond the opportunity to explore unique opportunities in the emerging territory.

Hey, that light blue (turquoise?) is pretty darn unique in the kit market. Very uncommon to come across it in kits, but with the big brands milking consumers with new tops every year, it was only a matter of time before they'd get into this part of the colour spectrum.

As for the design, pretty sure this is just another template, complete with the trademarked stripes plastered on the shoulders. Must be the world's easiest job, being a designer at adidas.

I wonder if the sponsor would've looked better if it had been in turquoise as well

I think the colours work well, and the kits pretty simple.
Not very unique in terms of the design, but still pretty smart.
Decent effort!

Yes but TVs and football shirts are completely different products aren't they. The problem is that adidas have a very limitwd number of templates that churn out over and over again. And those templates are generally crap.

adidas, nike & puma all use templates, they can't do a club specific jersey for all clubs when you are supplying as many clubs as these big brands do.. what you do get is quality product from the big brands.. can't be said of the smaller brands..

Well spotted. But if you had read my comment you would understand that my issue isn't with the use of templates but the poor design and overuse of adidas templates. Sunderland's away kit last year was the same template as Lille's home kit and Rangers' and Ath. Bilbao's away kit. However, the design of that template and the use of different colour combinations made each kit feel suitably different from the other- adidas don't appear capable of doing that with their templates.
As for the big brands, I'd rather see a smaller brand produce a relatively unique kit than have a 'big name' template. Any difference in quality is arguable

As a Sunderland supporter I was disappointed when the club announced that the new strip would be made by adidas. But this is even worse than I expected. The unoriginal template design was to be expected by the colour scheme is awful. Looks like one of those hideous aways kits adidas did for the Mags in the late 90s. The best thing about this is the sponsor. The training wear range is even worse than this. Come back Umbro, please

with a £50 price tag aswell! Unimaginative template, sponser that makes no sense and um fifty yes FIFTY quid a top. I am a die hard sunderland fan for 31 years and found myself pondering over a gateshead season ticket. I am totally disgusted with the whole situation! Oh and if you think the new training wear will be safe to buy its just like this rubbish, £25 a pair of shorts and £30 the training shirt. Two seasons a shirt was £35, just wondering how they can justify this! I understand that now its down to kitbag but surely the club must have some input into what goes on. When my team give me something to shout about then i will pay exciting money! An epic fail!

Anyone else have any opinions?

I had an e mail from him asking for my bank details. He said he was going to send loads of money for me to look after until he became president.
I hope he sends it soon because somebody seems to be taking money out of my account as soon as I put it in.

I like the colors, but the design is tacky. I'm not a fan of the adidas-style triple stripes, and the odd angle down the flank makes it look like a cheap training shirt. However, Best. Sponsor. Ever.

invest in africa? why not just throw your money down the toilet, they can't be helped. they don't like whites because they know we are their superiors. they can't feed themselves or do anything without our help - we should let them starve. i feel more compassion for african wildlife than africans. please donate to wwf

Forest had those colours for an away kit for 2 years, they won promotion back to the Premiership and finished 3rd in the Premier League in the 2nd year they wore it. My point : lucky colours, even though it is a bit drab.....
