Sunderland 12/13 Adidas Home Football Shirt

Sunderland AFC has revealed its brand new Adidas home kit for the 2012-13 Barclays Premier League season, which will be available here.

The new strip is now available to pre-order and will go on sale at 8am on Thursday 9 August.

Sunderland's traditional red and white shirt sports the famous three stripes of adidas, and features the latest ClimaCool fabric designed to regulate the body temperature and actively conduct heat away from the body.

The black shorts are trimmed with red and, in a change to last season, the players will sport black socks with a red trim.

Thanks to Dave and Malcom

The new Palace kit is made by Avec who have been around since at least 1994. In the past they've made kits for Sunderland, Sheff Utd, Hull and a variety of other clubs. The new Palace shirts are also very, very nice. And made all the better because Avec have limited the extent of their branding on the shirts. Something that you can't say about adidas.

Matter of opinion really, isn't it. I think they look great. But that's because I base my opinion on what a shirt looks like and how well its designed. Not whether or not its good a Nike or adidas logo on it.

They are also a poor knock off of Puma's design for Newcastle last season.

It didn't work for Newcastle and it doesn't work for Palace in my opinion

Adidas giving the usual stripes on the arms, makes it now look like a Stoke kit.
The sponsor doesn't really fit with the kit - but it's a good cause, so that's more important.

As a Sunderland fan, I love it.
The last 2 Umbro ones were great, but they also made a few that were pretty $h!t and totally overdesigned.

Most noticeable thing for me too. Are adidas that poor that they can't tweak a template to add a third colour?

It is very rare that Sunderland have black trim on their home shirts, not sure how reliable this is but i can only count 6 of the 60 shirts that have black trim:-

But look at those strips again and there is black in the form of the manufacturer's logo, some black outside of the badge for right back thirty years. It is something as simple as that that adidas could have done to make this unique to Sunderland.

This is the worst Sunderland kit I've ever seen. Not because the design is particularly bad but because it clearly comes from adidas' 'clubs we don't give a crap about' range.
For those of you saying its the same as Stoke's kit, its not- but it is exactly the same template as West Brom.
The problem with adidas' over-aggressive branding is that you get the impression that this is an adidas shirt with a Sunderland badge on it. Rather than last season's which was clearly a Sunderland shirt made by Umbro (if you can appreciate the distinction).
I'm not a massive fan of adidas but if some thought had gone into either of this season's kits we could have had something really nice. The use of the current Germany away template or the Wolfsburg template in royal blue would have made an away kit very similar to the 1988-91 blue hummel away kit. I'm sure that would have been popular with SAFC fans.
The only good thing about this kit is 'Invest in Africa'

Many of sunderland's kits have had no black in the past. If this is another template please state which other clubs have it, i may be wrong but don't recall any other clubs with this 'template'

Funny how Stoke, Southampton and Sunderland all begin with S and have red and white stripes (traditionally). This years Southampton have gone off the edge. Nice enough kit but do agree that charity begins at home and it would be nice if another nation took the time to invest in the UK for once.
I have always had a soft spot for Sunderland ever since 1973 so good luck next season boys!

I agree, they are no Stoke or West Brom! Maybe if things go well next season and finish higher in the league they may get more of a bespoke kit, until then I think adidas only try if a club is in the top six of the top leagues.
