USA 12/13 Away Nike Football Shirt

usa 12/13 away nike football shirt

We showed you some leaked pictures last month, but Nike now officially unveiled the new USA 12/13 away football kit which will be available here.

There is a new confidence about the U.S.; they are now recognized as a dynamic football nation who are contenders on the world stage, and the United States Men’s National Team new away kit reflects the iconic collegiate look so prevalent in American fashion and culture.

The design of the away jersey is directly inspired by the popular varsity jackets worn in high school and college with its blue body and white sleeves, while a crossover collar features red, white and blue stripes.

In line with Nike’s commitment to superior athletic performance and lower environmental impact, the fabric of the new kit’s shorts is made with 100% recycled polyester, while the fabric of the shirts is made with at least 96% recycled polyester.  Each kit is made using an average of 13 recycled plastic bottles.

The fabric is also up to 23% lighter than the version four years ago. Embedded with Nike Dri-FIT technology, the kits help to regulate players temperatures on the pitch by removing sweat from the body to keep them dry and cool faster than ever before.

Laser-cut ventilation on the shirt promotes localised cooling where athletes need it most to remain focused on the game.

A new double knit structure and yarns also makes this kit 20% stronger, with no compromise to fit and feel with natural cotton added for comfort.

The jersey also has a tonal sash on the front to echo the same design on the shirts worn by the USMNT who famously defeated England in the 1950 World Championship finals in Brazil.

Inside the neck the American Stars and Stripes flag, affectionately known as "Old Glory," inspires pride in today’s squad of players.

The new away shorts are blue, while the new away socks, now with improved cushioning for greater comfort, movement and protection, are also blue with a white and red stripe at the top.

I am not a fan. You would think that Nike, an American company, would give their national team some love and something really special. I think that they jersey looks cheap and tacky, especially the white sleeves. If the sleeves were blue it would look much better.

Either way it looks like an AYSO jersey.

its not the looks of the shirt being worn but the quality of the man(or woman) inside the shirt. Its about the heart and spirit that they possess to win. That is the hallmark of this USMNT.
Defeating England in 1950 and not laying down in 2010, the Portuguese in 2002 (and as a Portuguese I cried after that one), and now Italy....

It's growing on me, but I still feel like the sash is overkill.
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

0 # 2012-03-04 15:17
I think the sash is going to be an integral part of the USMNT shirt, and honestly given that its an homage to the 1950's team I think it gives an identity that the shirt has been seeking.
This kit is definitely growing on me, not a fan of the white sleeves, but the white on the sleeves is something you see on a lot of the college teams in other sports in the US.
Plus no one ever says that Arsenal's shirt ;look bad with white sleeves.

How come it looks navy in the pictures without a model, yet in the promo posters with Dempsey, it looks more royal blue? I'm confuzzled.

Looks like Nike designers are trolling this page trying to tell us this is a "cool" kit.

How do you go from all of the Euro 12 kits Nike is designing to this?

How do you go from making New Zealand's awesome kit, to this?

Even the WC 2010 kit was better than this.

Stop harkening back to when the US beat England and Brazil, it's the past, get over it.

Do us all a favor Nike, redo the badge, use the don't tread on me snake and the football, like the secondary logo that was used during the WC.

After that, stop catering to grown up jocks whose mom's rode them to games in minivans, drank juice boxes and went to the richest kids house for pizza after the last game.

It's carrying on the ideal that this is some preppy bastard sport, when it's clear the face of American football is changing with children of immigrants, minorities and street kids now playing.

Embrace that!

No more graduated juicebox kits!

I think just the flag for the US crest is perfectly acceptable. The badge just looks too "manufactured". Like the MLS.

This is terrible.

I completely agree with people asking "how can Nike come up with such AMAZING kits for Netherlands, NZ, France, etc.", and put out THIS CRAP for our home country?

This is lazy, lazy work - I'd rather have something more similar to ANY other new kit Nike has announced the last few weeks.

I bought the 2010 World Cup kit, but I won't be buying this one. Let's hope the away one is better.

Quality kit!!!

will be severely tempted by it after seeing it now :)

Nike appear to be utilising the base template alot less than adidas this year, and even when they do use base templates, Nike at least appear to be spicing them up with minor details of individuality (eg portugal away, holland away, and now US away tops) nice job nike! can't wait to see what Hamilton Academical's strips will be like next year ;)

Love the kit. I just wish we would change the crest to something much better. Maybe something with the snake from the Gadsen flag, like this (minus the Nike logo) http://www.logotypes101.com/logos/154/149B15C61A67A7AF5EC652354A107D8C/USSoccerDontTreadonMe.png
