Manchester United 13/14 Nike Home Football Shirt

Manchester United 13/14 Nike Home Football Shirt

Manchester United’s new home shirt for 2013/14 takes inspiration from the club’s success and Manchester’s industrial heritage. It is available to pre-order here and can be purchased in stores tomorrow (Thursday 6 June).

The United home shirt features the return of the black collar, worn upturned with such brilliance by Eric Cantona during the club's champion run of the 1990s.

Creative Football T-Shirts at Footytees.com - Featuring prints by a range of talented artists

Underneath the collar is a subtle tonal grey-and black-gingham check, first used on last season's home shirt. The check represents Manchester’s industrial past, referencing the city’s cotton mills of the 18th century, which once produced the classic check fabric.

The tailored collar, with three buttons at the front and one at the back, represents the city's sense of style. Two side vents at the hem of the shirt feature the same tonal black-and-grey gingham check that is found under the collar.

The new home shorts are white with a thin black stripe on the hem of the back. The home socks are black with a white stripe bound by two red stripes, and the traditional United bar scarf design appears on the back of the sock.

Who was the designer? Maybe Eric Cantona.

The designer was Matthew Simmons (THAT Crystal Palace fan), who after 18 years of building up rage decided to try his luck as a designer for Nike, eventually after building his way up he was given the privileged task to design Man U's latest kit and just as he was about to put pen to paper the door swung open and one swift drop kick later he fell to the ground with Eric Cantona stood over his unconscious body... probably

Other than the fact this is a red shirt with a collar it's completely different to England.

If it had had a round neck we'd be comparing it to something else.

So you'd change maybe 1% of the kit. Not exactly an "awful effort" then is it?

Red collar would also be nice but the kit needs some black or white in it to make it specific to United.

A simple design is sometimes best. I like all red, even the collar or just plain black collar. Besides the collar its nice, just not one for buttons. Flat collar would be better, I see most fans like it tho because of Cantona.

It's a performance shirt with a collar. Not a polo shirt. A kit needs to be wearable. There's tons of performance features on this shirt. Nothing plain about it.

Fashions change with the times. Is there some law that says football shirts have to have sporty "flashes" all over them? I saw a picture of Brazil's 2002 World Cup winning team the other day and couldn't believe how badly their kit had aged. It looked incredibly dated, gimmicky and very much of its time. A shirt like this, on the other hand, could have come from any era and will still look good ten years from now.

Fans will always want to support their clubs by buying the new shirts and most of them will do it regardless of what the shirt looks like, so the way I see it you're better off wearing something plain and "boring" like this design than something bold and daring like the new Liverpool away shirt, which, to the average person on the street, makes you look like a clown.

Most sensible thing I've read on here in ages #El Colordo

Fashions change with the times. Is there some law that says football shirts have to have sporty "flashes" all over them? Case in point. Here's a "90s looking shirt".... and it's shocking.

Now this is a classy kit worthy of a team with such history and class, same with Bayern, I bet Milan as well, even Benfica the runner up champions have a nice one....now a team like Liverpool with such history I am not sure to call a Shirt for Liverpool or for China national football team, or simply sunday league team kit!

Its genuinely good to see Man u actually have a decent home kit for a change. For a few (maybe a fair bit) of seasons there was always something just not right with their home kits designwise, but this one they seemed to of found a great solution, absoltutely love it! If i was a Man u fan i would be getting this no problem! It really does seem like Nike has got its arse into gear this season and delivering some truelly timeless kits this time round, spot on :)

They could wind up with a prison sentence for that.

Thats not a fan thats a sore loser. Stick to a club. Been liverpoil all my life. So choose one and stay! No point in just changing club every season or two, PICK ONE!!

That tight, mean-looking collar looks like the sort of thing children had to contend with in the 1950's when forced to attend Sunday school. ' Tie that top button UP young man!'
Either that or something worn by a twitching serial-killer in Buttondown, Nebraska.

The buttons could disturb or even hurt when stopping the ball with the chest.

Looking OK, but i dont think it fits as a football shirt. Its more like rugby. Maybe United plans to play that way next season.
