Football memorabilia belonging to the family of late Football Association and West Bromwich Albion chairman Sir Bert Millichip has been stolen. Raiders struck at Lady Barbara Millichip's Worcestershire home after she popped out for half an hour.

A Bachelor Brooch, given to Sir Bert when he was knighted and silver goblets inscribed with the Albion crest are among the stolen items.

Sir Bert's son, Peter Millichip, has appealed to the thief to return them.

Also taken from the Barnt Green home during Friday's burglary was a gold chain with a UEFA medallion, five silver presentation platters and a silver bowl inscribed with the Albion and FA crests which were given to him on his retirement.

A large Bible, written half in Hebrew and half in English, given to Sir Bert by the Israel FA, was also among the haul.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said the burglary took place after Lady Millichip left the house at noon.

She came back 35 minutes later to find an untidy search had been made and the mementoes were missing along with jewellery, a large television and small wooden cabinet figures.

Treasured items

Peter Millichip said the burglary had been a shock to his mother.

"After my father's death his mementoes and memorabilia took on an even greater significance than before.

"The loss of the Bachelor Brooch has affected my mother deeply and until I told her it might be possible to get a replacement she was distressed because she thought it had gone for ever," he said.

They were treasured items, a lot of them irreplaceable, he added.

"The items are not of particularly significant material value but have huge emotional and personal value to my mother," he said.

Police are looking for two men seen running from the scene. One was white, aged 18 to 25 and wearing a white shirt. The second was black with shaved or short hair and using a mobile phone.

A maroon-coloured car has also been seen in the area.

Sir Bert died in 2002 after serving on the Albion board for nearly 50 years and was with the FA for 28 years.
