Chelsea Football Club has opened 'The Centenary Museum', built to commemorate the centenary year of 'The Blues'. This fantastic, all new visitor attraction pays tribute to the past 100 years of the Stamford Bridge side, with a host of exhibits, sights and sounds for Chelsea fans, young and old to enjoy. On arrival, you are greeted with a fabulous West London street image, reminiscent of the year of Chelsea's inception in 1905. With cobbled streets and pre-war paraphernalia adorning the walls, you are taken back to an age where Stamford Bridge easily held over 90,000 spectators. From there, you enter 'The Champions Room'; an area dedicated to the title winning side of 2004/05 and where your exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour will begin. With magnificent flatscreen televisions showing highlights from Chelsea's record breaking season and with an array of photo opportunities on hand, 'The Champions Room' allows you to share in the club's centenary celebrations. It also houses a stunning exhibition of artwork marking the club's major trophy successes over the past century. Commisioned by the club and organised through the Millenium Arts Project and local schoolchildren, these outstanding hand-painted images will take your breath away. The main exhibition hall begins with an introduction by our Life Vice President, Lord Richard Attenborough. As one of the most recognisable figures in cinema, Lord Attenborough will personally welcome you to Stamford Bridge and describe what you will encounter and what to look out for as you journey through the museum. The museum is divided into decades, with each 10 year period illustrating how Chelsea FC faired and also the current events taking place at the time. In the first half of the century, you'll learn of the club's birth in 1905, the visit of King George V, the legend of William 'Fatty' Foulke and the incredible 'Khaki Cup Final'. From there, you'll bear witness to the legacy of Ted Drake's championship winning team of 1955, led by the irrepressable Roy Bentley. Into the 1970's and 80's, share the highs and lows of the two most turbulent decades in the club's history and, finally, find yourselves up to date with a tribute to the modern day Chelsea FC. With artefacts such as Seamus O'Connell's England caps and medals, Roy Bentley's boots and original contract to Jose Mourinho's signature 'Armani' coat, this magnificent exhibition centre appeals to fans young and old. With ongoing donations from players and supporters alike, the museum is ever changing and is an absolute must see for all Chelsea supporters and those with a genuine passion for the game.
