Leyton Orient new home 07/08 vandanel football kit E-mail
Monday, 11 June 2007

ORIENT will be back in braces for the 2007/08 season after modelling their new kit on the iconic design of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Braces Are Back! Orient will be back in braces for the 2007/08 season after modelling their new kit on the iconic design of the late 1970s and early 1980s

The braces made a return two years ago as the O's change strip, but they will now be used at home as well following the response of thousands of O's fans to last season's Supporters' Survey.

Modelled here by new signing Stephen Purches, the new kit will go on sale in time for Orient's pre-season programme and a pre-ordering facility will be available in July

Orient's braces history dates back to the late 1970s , and many of the club's high points from the modern era were recorded in the kit.

From the 1978 FA Cup semi-final appearance to Peter Kitchen's legendary goalscoring exploits, the design is inextricably linked with the O's and now the club have taken the identiry into the 21st century.

Commercial manager Chris Pope said: "It was extremely apparent through our consultation with supporters that the braces are a firm favourite.

"The new home strip encompasses the braces style which proved extremely popular when the white kit returned. The design process meant we were searching for a modern advance on this and I hope we have achieved that.

"Ultimately we needed a kit that would provide the O's with an identity to set us apart from the rest, be comfortable for the players to perform in and also prove to be a commercial success. "Stephen Purches is extremely happy with both the fit and look of the new strip and I hope this carries over to the supporters and they wear it with pride next season.

"Pre order information will be coming soon, as well as information on the new away kit for the forthcoming season so keep checking the website for further details" The away kit for next season will feature the same design in royal blue with white braces and is also anticipated to go on sale in July.

Orient's crest is made up of two wyverns facing each other over a football. The wyvern symbol was introduced in 1976 and is believed to incorporate Orient's links with the City of London (the wyvern is the symbol of the City) and with the sea, through the old Orient Shipping Company.

Previous club crests have included a version of the Borough of Leyton's coat of arms, and a single red dragon.
