In the early 20th century, teams used to change their shirt colors often, and Boca did so too. They had different shirts before adopting the current colors.

The first one is said to have been a light blue satin shirt. Some people say it actually was pink, but it was used only in a couple of matches. A few days later, founders met and asked the sister of one of them to buy new shirts. The new ones were blue and white vertically striped wool shirts(according to other versions, the colors were black and white).

The legend says a team called Boedo had the same shirt. The clubs agreed to play a match so that the winner would keep the colors. Boca lost and had to pick new colors.

A young man who worked at the bridge found inspiration in a Swedish boat blue and yellow flag. And Boca has worn those colors ever since. However, before sticking with the current design, Boca used a blue shirt with a yellow oblique band in 1908 (It was a similar design to the one used by River nowadays).

Boca needed a new shirt. The new feature would be the horizontal band. At long last, Boca had found the shirt design that would make history.

In 1996, Boca agreed to change the design adding a 2 cm white stripe between the blue and yellow bands. This caused quite a stir and in 1998 Boca Juniors returned to the original colors, this time with a 33 cm yellow band. Wearing this model, Boca won the national tournament in 1998 and 1999.

In 2000, the yellow band went back to its classic 15 cm size and the blue area turned lighter. With this jersey, Boca won the triple crown (national tournament, Libertadores cup and the world cup) for the first time. In 2001, the jersey had a few tweaks: a dark blue band on the sides, the logo was placed in the middle, and the area below the number on the back was yellow.

In 2003, a new design. Out went the yellow on the back, it had bigger numbers and a sleeveless shirt under the main one. Boca won the triple crown once again.

The 2006-2007 model has a similar design with the logo in the middle and more yellow on the sleeves and collar. The yellow band extends up to the end of the sleeves.

The Crest

Boca Juniors has had five crests throughout his history. The first one was adopted in 1922 and was used until1955. It showed a white background with the CABJ initials in yellow and blue and a horizontal stripe also yellow. The crest was then changed to dark blue with the yellow stripe in the middle and the initials in black to celebrate the Club’s 50 anniversary. Also a strand of laurels was added on each side of the badge.

All laurels dissappeared in the 60s, CABJ was replaced by Boca Juniors and a black border was added. In 1970 the Club recovered the ’55 model keeping the coloured border but introducing some changes: eliminated the laurels, brought back the four initials and introduced the stars, representing each of the 30 titles obtained up to that moment.
The last change in the Crest was developed by Shakespeare Design Studio during the last semester of 1996.

The yellow stripe was eliminated and CABJ initials were set in College font which was adopted as the official font for the Club.

Boca Juniors crest history

On 3 April 1905, five Italian immigrants gathered in the Plaza Solís, located in the heart of the La Boca neighborhood of Buenos Aires. Esteban Baglietto, Alfredo Scarpatti, Santiago Sana, and brothers Juan and Teodoro Farenga founded Boca Juniors (the use of English language in team names was commonplace, as British railroad workers had originally introduced football into Argentina).

Boca Juniors played in local leagues and the amateur second division until being promoted to the first division in 1913, when the division was expanded from six teams to 15. Boca were never relegated; they won six amateur championships (1919, 1920, 1923, 1924, 1926, and 1930). With the introduction of professionalism in Argentina, Boca won the first title in 1931.
