BACKPASS : Retro Football Magazine E-mail
Monday, 19 November 2007

The crew from BACKPASS MAGAZINE sent us an email to let us know about their launch issue of the new retro football magazine Backpass, which includes a feature on Coventry City's chocolate away kit of the 1970s. And they plan similar articles in the future. For those who haven't heard of Backpass Magazine:

BACKPASS is a new retro football magazine, due to be published four times a year, that is dedicated to the Beautiful Game's good old days - the 1960s, 70s and 80s. The launch issue contains, amongst many other things, the memories of Ted MacDougall, Don Rogers, Jim McCalliog, Bobby Smith and Mick Kearns, Jim Smith on the spot, Frank Clark's personal insight into Nottingham Forest's 1979 European Cup winning side, a tribute to the much-travelled Frank Large, John Barnwell on Bill Shankly, an interview with Poland's Grzegorz Lato and Spurs winning the European Cup Winners Cup in 1963. There is also a special four-page focus on the 1970-71 season.

The first issue, which runs to 44 pages, is available for £2.50 (which includes postage) from BACKPASS, PO Box 4731, Southam, Warwickshire CV47 4AP.

BackpassIssue One includes

THE MANAGEMENT - Jim Smith on the spot

MEMORIES of Ted MacDougall, Jim McCalliog, Don Rogers, Bobby Smith, Bobby Ham, Mick Kearns, Mark Loram and Geoff Crudgington.

INSIGHT on Nottingham Forest's 1979 European Cup winners

GREAT TV GOALS OF THE SEVENTIES - Blackpool's Tony Green

FASHION DISASTERS - Coventry City's choc horror

CUP CLASSICS - Chester City's famous victory over Leeds United

REMEMBERED - The much-travelled Frank Large, and George's six of the Best

WORLD CUP WONDERS - Poland's Grzegorz Lato

FOCUS on the 1970-71 season

and much, much more .....

WHAT THE PAPERS ARE SAYING ABOUT BACKPASS

May I recommend a new quarterly magazine which is a refreshing change from some of the relentlessly Premiership celeb-dominated and stats-mad glossies currently dominating the lower shelves.

TORQUAY HERALD EXPRESS

Many fans might believe that English football is racing down a super highway. But like all sports supporters, they still enjoy little detours down Amnesia Lane, which is why one welcomes the launch of a new magazine called Backpass, dedicated to football in the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties.

SUNDAY TELEGRAPH

Chester's finest cup victory is fondly remembered in a brand new football magazine entitled Backpass.

WREXHAM EVENING LEADER

Do you recall that 1970s FA Cup marathon between non-leaguers Alvechurch and Oxford City that went to five replays? Do you recoil at the memory of Coventry City's infamous all-chocolate away kit? Or do you remember Nottingham Forest's 1979 European Cup win in Munich when the country's first £1 million man, former Blues star Trevor Francis, headed the winning goal against Malmo. All of these stories, and much more too, feature in BACKPASS, an innovative new retro football magazine launched this month.

SUNDAY MERCURY (BIRMINGHAM)

Full of fascinating facts, Backpass is a hugely welcome addition to the array of football magazines that vie for attention these days. It warmly embraces the fact, to which so many elements of the media have become blind, that English football stretches far beyond the big clubs.

BIRMINGHAM EVENING MAIL

Bored rigid by overpaid ballerinas mincing about in the Premier League? Fed up with smarmy Lineker and Co patting each other on the back? Feel like swinging for Abramovich? If you sometimes find your mind drifting back to that half-remembered time when the ghosting runs of George Best put the finest defenders in the land on their backsides, or when gobby Brian Clough ruled supreme at the Baseball Ground, a new magazine called Backpass might just get your sap rising again.
